I received a message in my inbox which I find suspicious. Below is the message I got

It's just a message of someone who wanted to get clarification on your post about Bitcoin  investment. I can't really tell if it's a scam, but you should be careful interacting with anyone privately on a public forum without any call for a conversation. Just deal with who ever it is carefully and if he claims to have a better investment plan. Which I'm starting to think is what that pm was about just ignore him.

My rule of thumb, I assume it's a scam off the bat and to be convinced otherwise, there needs to be overwhelming evidence that it is not a scam.
In this case there is every indication that it is leading to a scam attempt;
• the message could have easily been posted on the thread but theiser opted for a private message,
• the user is also initiating a conversation around holding bitcoins and expecting a response.

I would block the user from sending me any further PMs.

If I were the the OP, I would have acted like I was very novice and newbie to bitcoin and other crypto. I would have continued the conversation just to make sure to know were the person which I think is a scammer is going. There is nothing that I could think of than it to be scam. The OP topic is clear and easy to understand. No clarification that he wantet than looking for something else.

Seem like a very similar behaviour to the one of  fisherman who casts the bait and waits for something to bite : if it was a genuine intention to have a polite conversation ( as he is putting down) there is no reason to do it in private message instead on the same topic/thread you opened...also considering I see a signature displayed under their profile and they are likely receiving some  money for their posts on forum.

From the message I got from the user, I don't think he meant any harm, as it clearly shows that he or she was trying to reply to or quote me on a particular thread, but an error obstructed him from doing so, and he thought sending the reply to my DM was necessary.
 
I overlooked it and have not gotten any such DMs from that user again. Unless you are being asked for private or confidential information or asked to click on a link, the user might not mean any harm to you, but if you don't feel comfortable with that, you can just blacklist the user from sending you DM.

OP, you should have read the warnings in his trust. This user, and as I understand it, his nickname is tajimas, has the unique audacity to disturb someone else’s peace by sending PMs to everyone he wants.

I think this is an attempt at fraud since no one else thought of communicating secretly. If I were you, you would need to inform the moderator about the unsolicited PM and subsequently not trust anyone who supposedly “sincerely” wants to communicate with you. Feel free to send complaints to moderators.

 I received something like this from an anonymous user via PM although it wasnt exactly like this and the first thing that came to mind was he/she was a scammer and thought against giving them my time, but then again, I reasoned that it could be someone looking to be put through crypto currencies and so I responded by referring them to reading more articles about Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies and perhaps their questions could be answered on there.
 It's not cool to slide into someone's PM and send messages just because you feel their approach or decision on Bitcoin was brave but from what I could see in @lovesmayfamilis' reply, it seems actually harmless. They didn't send you a link on where to invest or something so it's not what you should be scared about.

The message itself does not have any elements that point to a scam, so if the OP wanted to find out what it was about, he should have replied to the message or simply ignored it. What he certainly should not have done is to publish a personal message publicly because there is absolutely no valid reason for that.

Maybe the forum should provide all users with a new feature - block PM from all users.

I don't know if the person intension is real or maybe just trying to get your attention. For me messages like this you just need to ignore it because you don't really know the intentions of the person, and I think such massage is not important for you to respond to. If op really wants to contribute to the topic there is need for it to be done in discussion thread instead of in the secret. It is common their are messages like this that you will recieve like and I don't see any need for response.

Sometimes people don't go straight to the point of the intention they have, they look for something that can draw your attention for communication to beginning but if you just ignore the message it won't  be possible for the person to execute the evil plan.

I  am obviously a novice on this space, didn't know how to respond to the message because I have read lots of scary stories about strangers in our DMs. Next time, I'll do a follow up carefully to satisfy my curiosity.

It is better that you have brought this issue up instead of keeping or responding to the PM, which can lead to the scam you were thinking was the main aim of the PM.

Conversations like this is supposed to happen in public; he should have just replied to you in the thread instead of messaging you. According to the message, there is no scam attempt because the message is related to the topic of discussion and is not supposed to be like that; therefore, avoid such PMs and learn from the comments in the main thread.

As it is now we are only left with guessing the intention of the sender, whether it is a genuine PM or a scam. As you said, the OP should have responded, even if it means playing along in order to get the motive of the sender because we can't jump into conclusion without actually knowing the senders motive. Although the sender should have commented on the thread instead of sending PM, so it could be a red flag for scam. Alternatively the OP can choose to just ignore the message, which i think is what he has done, to avoid interactions that can lead to him being scammed.

I also received some messages in my inbox from a specific user. I totally ignored them. Because by looking at the type of these messages, it can be understood that they are sent to deceive. I would suggest you to ignore them.

The message is not an attraction that you can take to do something, you can ignore it if you think the message is suspicious or could harm yourself, even though the message was sent by a member on this forum.

In the crypto world, if you are not thorough and careful you could become a target for fraud. If you want to learn about investing, crypto trading, you can ask for advice from people you know in the real world or those who have accounts here, but who you know in real life outside this forum.

Remember the messages sent by members here, you can ignore them if they are not of interest to you, unless you ask here like now, of course you can have an answer for that, it's good that you want to ask here, don't just rush into doing something.

It might be, because judging by the thread hosseinimr93 shared, the PM Tajimas sent you is probably an opening conversation for his scam attempt to you if you continue conversing with him. If you are suspicious of the PM he sent you and you think he is up to no good, you can just ignore the PM he sent you or maybe report it.

Now you have experience and if you encounter the same situation in the future, of course, you will already know how to react to it.

What you also need to know is that you won't only get PMs like that in forums. Also, be careful with your social media. especially if you are new a making posts related to questions or need help.

You can ignore such PMs, and you can also ignore accounts that send you messages you don't want.

Try as much as possible to make your email hidden from the public, secondly if you can go through your settings and restrict who can send you PM and make all newbies unable to do so, all these will help you avoid receiving any unsolicited messages on your inbox, and in case of the ones that manage to escape and still sent you one, once you see them, ignore the user and delete the message, don't accept anyhow inbox in the name of being the same forum user, you cant trust people you see on proxy, they may have shady intentions.

Yes, it's a scam attempt and you should always be careful from such messages. Never ever reply to the ones who send you such messages because their main goal is to steal your Bitcoin holdings and for that they can make so many fake stories.

If you really want to invest in Bitcoin then you should do it yourself and try to learn in depth about Bitcoin personal wallets and cold wallets as such concepts will be much helpful for you, as those will help you to store your Bitcoin safely.
