If you check the feedback history for each member, you can get the answer yourself. The message you received might be an attempt to lure you onto one of the communication applications and the like to share with you one of the malicious links to one of the fake wallets or phishing sites. If you see any suspicious message sent by one of the members here in the forum, you can ignore this member and report his message to the mod and block users who send you DMs on Telegram, Discord, or other social media platforms.

Trusting strangers is the biggest mistake anyone can make because you do not know their intentions toward you. Since you mentioned that you want to transfer all your savings to Bitcoin, this alone can make you a target because they are convinced you have substantial funds. You should be careful and not enter into discussions with any member who tries to deceive you into trusting him by providing some information that he is trying to show you that he is experienced, knowledgeable in this field, and trustworthy.

It's just a message of someone who wanted to get clarification on your post about Bitcoin  investment. I can't really tell if it's a scam, but you should be careful interacting with anyone privately on a public forum without any call for a conversation. Just deal with who ever it is carefully and if he claims to have a better investment plan. Which I'm starting to think is what that pm was about just ignore him.

I may be wrong but from the nature of that pm I can confidently say it's a scam attempt for some reasons. Firstly, he intrude the person dm portraying to offer partnership or whatever. He should have also commented on the Op thread with such ideas and offers instead of taking it to his pm, this raises the suspicion. People hardly offer legit deal to total strangers without being consulted. If he's legit, he would have drop the offer on the thread and wait for Op to pm first and not be desperate to pm him first.

It's just a message of someone who wanted to get clarification on your post about Bitcoin  investment. I can't really tell if it's a scam,
If I were the the OP, I would have acted like I was very novice and newbie to bitcoin and other crypto. I would have continued the conversation just to make sure to know were the person which I think is a scammer is going. There is nothing that I could think of than it to be scam. The OP topic is clear and easy to understand. No clarification that he wantet than looking for something else.

From the Op profile and his conversation, it's obvious that he's a newbie to this space and I don't think continue with such conversations is idea for him. Even as a professional or expert, entertaining conversation for a long time will definitely cause you to be confused sometimes. In the long run, one may begin to find sense in what the scammer is saying, they are very smart to study your weak points when conversing with them and use it to convince you in the course of conversation. I will advice to strictly cut off the conversation rightly when you suspect anything fishy.

Hello everyone

After the post I made on 20th Nay, 2024 about using bitcoin the decentralized way (please see link to the post below)

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5497170.msg64103526#msg64103526

I received a message in my inbox which I find suspicious. Below is the message I got

Is this really a scam attempt?

Provably yes, so maybe you should stop thinking about entertaining that or any offer you receive if someone send you a private message since for sure there's something wrong with their offer since they didn't disclose it to public.

Also its good that you raised this topic since for sure there would be a lot more people he sent a message so once they read this thread then for sure they can easily figure out that there's something wrong with it and also avoid. Let's just hope that there's no newbies got scam by the attempts made that guy since its like he is eager to catch a victim came from this forum. Also avoid or ignore further more message coming from a newbie since they don't have credibility to offer something especially if they talk about investment or anything that bring risk on your funds.

i have checked the account and found something quite strange about it because he sent such messages to several users and it looks unusual and most likely a scam. you should be careful when dealing with this type of user because they may have good intentions at first but later they will start trying to offer help with the pretense that they will help you invest, and in the end it is predictable that he will run away with your money. it is good enough for you to ask by opening a thread like this, so that other beginners can see your thread and learn from what other users have said here.

Looking at his profile, OP is obviously a novice and I think it is safer he ignores the private message he got from this stranger if he is not satisfied that it is authentic. As a newbie, it is possible that he might get lured into joining partnerships he should be avoiding or putting his coins where he shouldn't. These scammers have targets and they go for newbies alot because they know their minds are still very fresh and they might likely fall for any unsolicited help they wish to render. Strangers are suspects therefore newbies should tread carefully with them. Anyone with pure intentions that wishes to help any newbie should normalize coming out openly to show support so as to avoid being called out this way.

The message itself does not have any elements that point to a scam, so if the OP wanted to find out what it was about, he should have replied to the message or simply ignored it. What he certainly should not have done is to publish a personal message publicly because there is absolutely no valid reason for that.

Maybe the forum should provide all users with a new feature - block PM from all users.

Sometimes i get amused by the way we treat private matters that should be kept between members and blow it all over the forum for attention. You are right about this needless attitude. the best way will be for anyone who gets such mails like that to ignore it once we know it will not harm anyone. Just read and ignore or delete it. No one such create a scene for that except they are writing to get merits.

That's exact it is. If you don't like the message, ignore it and when the time that private messages are pushy and they want you to sign up for any links then still ignore them but that's the time that we do action of letting other knows. But with all of the scam attempts out there, they all start with little conversation so I do understand the concern of OP and the others if they think that it can be not so harmful at the beginning but if the conversation gets deeper, they'll get your trust and that's the time they'd see you vulnerable for any attempt that they're planning to you.

The user isn't scamming you as far as the direct message you've posted is concerned. But it could be the start of something else once you respond to him/her.

I myself have received a private message from the same user. It wasn't a scam as well. But, as I've said, who knows where the conversation would lead me had I responded? I didn't respond.

It's your discretion to reply or not to messages. Let's discern though as to which PM needs a response and which doesn't. But be suspicious all the time.

As long as it doesn't give any link to click with I guess you are quite safe with this, but my question is what is the hidden agenda of that person to make a direct PM instead of commenting on a thread, if you think it's not worth to reply its your choice but of course, every information we shared in the internet can be useful to others we don't know what he wants with that kind of question, stay vigilant as possible.

It is certainly strange that this user is sending unsolicited messages to various users. The messages themselves seem inoffensive but it could be a social engineering attempt where they are trying to gain your trust.

The user tajimas has previously mentioned that they are a reporter. I don’t believe they offered any proof of this, but even if it is true, he is going about getting information in a way that makes people suspicious.

Most likely there would be an hidden agenda since he will not do that and send pm to a lot of random people if he have clear intention.

That's how important that we should not entertain any direct message especially if we don't know the guy then also ignore whatever things they so we can avoid easily anything risky situations due to what they offer to us.

I receive a lot of unsolicited pm and I choose to ignore it since I know how I can earn for my self and think that all I receive a message came from newbie is just a pure scam. We should stay vigilant since this scammers will attack if they see that see that we are easy target for them. But if they know that we have deep knowledge and not easy to get scam then for sure that those people will avoid us since they know that there's nothing to get and they might get expose on their attempts made.

Considering what some forum members are willing to do to get merits, I wouldn't rule out that some go so far as to use alt accounts to send themselves PMs, and then publicly complain about them. I am not saying that this is the case in this specific case, but I am sure that it has already occurred to someone.

This user already has one neutral review about the fact that he sent a PM without a request. Do forum users remember the story when one fairly well-known user from the Russian local section was marked with a negative tag for sending an unsolicited PM? Of course, the review was subsequently changed to neutral, but those who received a negative tag were on their nerves. Therefore, we could advise everyone who hopes to communicate with strangers in person to understand that not everyone wants this and welcomes such communication. And in order not to find yourself in an awkward situation, it is better to think a hundred times about whether you should send a PM or not. Sometimes you end up with the wrong person who can understand your “good” intentions.

I received a message in my inbox which I find suspicious. Below is the message I got

Is this really a scam attempt?
Even though the message you received doesn't have anything suspicious, it seems like it will have a follow-up message which will have the main content. You don't need to respond to the guy because you will not receive any free advice that can be useful because such advice can be shared through a response in a thread and one doesn't need to reach out to your DM only to give you some free advice without having any benefits attached in it for them.

They will most probably ask you to use a specific exchange to make your purchase if you are willing to buy a lot of Bitcoin and that exchange will be a fake one where you will send the money but you won't be able to withdraw anything because they will keep the funds. So, you need to be careful about such things in this space.

i have checked the account and found something quite strange about it because he sent such messages to several users and it looks unusual and most likely a scam. you should be careful when dealing with this type of user because they may have good intentions at first but later they will start trying to offer help with the pretense that they will help you invest, and in the end it is predictable that he will run away with your money. it is good enough for you to ask by opening a thread like this, so that other beginners can see your thread and learn from what other users have said here.
We should be extremely careful with the kinks we simply click on because some have sketchy appearance and they appear to be dangerous because they've the capability to enchanced good piece of information. OP should be careful with these messages because they're normally sent in bulk to other traders and members on forum, what's their initial plans? I guessed it's basically to lure people and having access to basic information surrounding the prey account.

No, it doesn't look like a scam. But messages from people about things that you're not interested in can generally be considered as spam.

I  am obviously a novice on this space, didn't know how to respond to the message because I have read lots of scary stories about strangers in our DMs. Next time, I'll do a follow up carefully to satisfy my curiosity.
Experience will make you better ahead. If you face the same situation as you have ever faced, then you can remember what the user has said in this thread. If you feel disturbed, you can ignore it and report it to the moderator.

Careful attitude is highly secured in the world of crypto. I think this is too personal to be revealed to the public, but the positive can be a lesson for others if you experience it from others.

Yeah, honestly, this type of conversation doesn't need to be kept private, because the conversation is supposed to be discussed in public, not private, but that's what some people don't understand. Be scared here, it is not a new thing. I can tell everyone have passed through this situation before they turn into high-ranking members.

But as you said earlier about being careful, it is very good to know the type of thread to reply to so that you won't go and fall in the wrong hand, and it is also good to visit defference threads so that you can learn a lessons from others users, which you can also gain much knowledge from individual users here.

Yes the truth remain that those who scam people mostly avoid public environment where they can be easily exposed to have a private deals with person outside the forum is more risky and should be avoided. It's good just as he has ask the question as it will help you to be more caution as allot of guide is already table for you the op, I believe anything outside forum that has to do with transaction must have some fishy or hidden agenda by the initiator.
