Morals talking time. Surely a matter of topic that has concerned many philosophers and intellectuals. I imagine most of (genuine) Bitcoiners be like "back-to-the-landers", libertarians, with desire to be self-sufficient. However, objectively speaking, taxation is theft. It's taking someone's property without their consent, and it is compulsory. It very much fits the definition of theft, even though you can find it slightly altered in other sources, like the Cambridge dictionary ("the crime of illegally taking something that belongs to someone else") (That's right dear reader, that was a clickbait!) The question is rather: Is taxation justifiable theft? A necessary evil? Libertarians tend to argue that it's wrong regardless the intentions. Taking someone's property without their permission is unethical, no matter how good you want to do with it. Others, who support social contract theory, argue that it's necessary and should be seen as "voluntary obligation". There is no right or wrong answer (un)fortunately. Feel free to speak out loud.
My stance on this is that both "groups" bring some compelling arguments on the table, in favor of their ideology. I don't know. I think there's a place where we draw the line. For example, nowadays, I think we've crossed that line (towards more government of course). I don't think we need that much government into the markets. I also feel really stupid when I see politicians talking about taxing gains from cryptocurrencies, with phrases like "unhosted wallets", or by attacking privacy services. They talk as if privacy invasion is a requirement, or "obligation" as per the social contract theory. I think this really crosses the line. Effective taxation is part of the reason that most developed economies, like the ones in Europe, are able to exist and flourish so much. People have collectively pooled their resources and trust the government institutions enough to disperse it effectively. This in theory allows you to wield a lot more power as a buyer and push down the prices charged in all sorts of areas. A seller will love government contracts because they'll be able to push through orders for hundreds of thousands or millions of units rather than hundreds that a single buyer might put in for an order.

As a matter of fact taxation is not a crime neither will I consider taxation as theft. In our society today we debate a lot on taxation involving average citizens paying tax, like I will always say citizens pay tax accordingly meaning they pay what they can afford so the government can't allocate an amount beyound the business capacity etc. How the government make use of the money should not be considered firstly using this money wrongly is so bad and I'm against this, medical facilities, infrastructure should be taken care of but in a different situation citizens die because the medical center lacks the facility yet they pay their due tax sound stupid and wrong. IMO paying tax is important by so doing that the government might consider the citizens if only the leader is caring like this familiar saying two wrongs can't make a right, the most annoying part involve embarrassing business owners because they failed to pay also trying to force narrative.
The tax system is designed to steal from the average and make the rich richer. That's the design, which is off the book. How can someone be paying tax from the little profit that you are making from your business, and the government will not use that money to do what they promised, and you will not consider it as theft? You pay tax for them to provide good security, yet you still hire others for such service because they are incompetent. Medically, we still pay for that from other aspects, not because we prefer luxury but because the medical centres are not working and the staff there are not professional. Should we still consider the tax system not to be a means to steal from the poor?

Note the state revenue don’t just come from tax payment alone, definitely if the leader is not able or caring like I stated earlier the country will suffer not just tax payment alone. The least those in power could think of is stealing from tax of course they’re into the act but, if only we consider the tax payment as the center means they might not even get close to owning luxurious properties. You’re right especially security aspect, it’s a major problem due to the high rate at which kidnappers display, let’s just expect something different besides countries suffering from insecurity are into conflict, war.

Taxes are certainly "theft", or better said, robbery under threat of violence (fines, isolation from society) to please the desires of the government (a bunch of people) who will manage this money in their own way. In public, of course, it is said that this money is used for the benefit of society, but in reality, for the sake of strengthening the positions of these politicians in power, which certainly goes against the interests of society, from which taxes are "taken away". The strongest (unified government) forcibly takes resources from the weak (disunited society). These are the rules of the game that have existed for centuries. Now these rules are being imposed on the crypto industry, as soon as real money appeared there (in significant quantities). Get ready for the fact that under various "sauces" (justifications) we will be served a "dish" (taxes) with a very unpleasant taste (large tax deductions from profits from cryptocurrencies).

Tell me - what is your attitude and evaluation of pensions, social assistance, state medicine and education, and state aid to people? Or for example wages of people working for the state and not generating GDP ? It is interesting to hear your opinion - is it stealing or not ? !

Taxes are theft under bad government, Dictatorship is a good form of governance under a good candidate. I'll talk from the perspective of EU. There are very high taxes in EU but that's not very bad. In EU, you get free healthcare, which isn't definitely a perfect because of waiting lists but emergency cases are solved well and it doesn't cost you hundreds of thousands of dollars to deal with the health issue, you get it fixed for free and level of medicine is quite high here. Another and one of the biggest benefit of high taxes is free education that we get in Europe. Free and high quality education means a better quality of life for everyone. These high taxes also mean that if you lose your job, you aren't automatically homeless person, the government pays you some money for a long period of time to take care of things. Do politicians use these high taxes for their own benefits? Yes, 100%. Do some people abuse it? Yes, 100% but overall, pros outweigh cons.

Taxes are important to regulate an economy, and it is beneficial when a good government is managing it. But with a bad government taxes are just a means to embezzle funds from all the citizens. What should matter in taxes is how fair it was collected and what it was spent on to better the country. This is what the citizens don't see that is there are complaints everywhere in the world. If I live in a country where I pay huge taxes, but my rent is affordable, I have steady electricity by spending less on the bills. In general, I meant if the economy is good, but the tax is huge I won't bother about how high it is. I will pay it. As long as things are better and there are lots of job opportunities.

The tax bill was initiated to keep the government intact but bad governance have turned it away from it's purpose and every country have there own way of managing there tax some are actually using the tax for the right reasons were some have made the tax to be another way of making money for them self. And some countries keep imposing taxes on people without proper use of it and most government are becoming very bad that they can not even hide there dirty habits and corruption is seriously inside the government and they try to shift power to there fellow bad politicians most countries even ours peoples vote don't longer count. And you are lucky to have a affordable house and a steady electricity and some government are failing to provide a 24 hours light and people keep paying and they are not getting what they are paying for, and the mind of this people is corrupt and they only care on how to make there own life style better, politicians are just bloody selfish and they don't want to learn from other countries.

In first world countries the pros may outweigh cons, but in third world countries the cons prevail. Besides paying expensive taxes, we also don't have access to quality services which are supposed to be destined to everyone. Health and education are a must and for "free", but in reality these services are terrible. There isn't much difference from a public school to a prison, and there isn't much difference from a public hospital to a slaughterhouse, especially in big urban centers. We pay EU's taxes and receive Sierra Leone's services on the other hand. Anyway, I don't think it's exactly a fault of the tax system. The real problem are the people in charge of it. In Europe it works nicely, but here it doesn't. And even if we had a system closer to the North American one, more focused on private services, it would still not work here, because once again, the problem are the people, not the system being used. Every systems are perfect in theory, considering people are going to cooperate with them.

Taxation in every nation is part of what grows or develops the country, I wouldn't really say it's theft because it's actually a necessity..but in some countries where opportunities are not provided for thr the citizens paying taxes would be considered unfair, if the government of any country asks their citizens to pay taxes then jobs should be provided. I'm from a part of Africa where the government can't legalize tax payment because a lot of people are living in debt and poverty due to the hard economy, how can you expect them to pay taxes in that condition?

Every systems are perfect in theory, considering people are going to cooperate with them. Everything will really be that according into the government itself on which if these taxes will really be that used on the proper way then we can be able to tell that it isnt really that theft since the citizens do able to benefit out on where those taxes been implemented or been used on which in compared into those times or moments that those taxes are directly been put up into their own personal pockets or bank accounts. We do know that not all countries does have that good governance and its members on which there will really be those who are corrupt and really that taking up some advantage specially that they are on such position on which they will be getting a hold of those taxes for their own personal interest on which this is really that indeed happening now. The purpose of taxation is to have that economical development on a certain country or place on which if its applied on the right way then it will really be that making that effective and good way for development. This is where we could be able to tell out the difference in between to those countries which are progressive and to those which had been staying up on poor or considered as 3rd tiers. You could be able to spot out the difference and on how its been run or governed.

The problem is that for now only a handful of countries and indeed those who are already developed can distribute their taxes well. In this case I am one of the many who do not trust the government in my country that manages taxes, because indeed if you look at the track record that is done sometimes, taxes are always used as a means to enrich officials in my country today with corruption that continues to occur without being prevented. I recognize that when a developed country manages taxes well, there will be prosperity both in resources and infrastructure, but this cannot be done much for underdeveloped and even underdeveloped countries where officials in the government always circumvent taxes with several things under the pretext of regulations for their own benefit by eating taxes collected from citizens.

Taxes are a crime in poor countries because politicians use collected taxes for their own benefit, to build a penthouse, buy an expensive car, fly with a private jet and build a bright future for their family members and relatives. This destroys the country and spreads hopelessness in people. I understand it, when I talk with people about taxes, everyone tells me that it shouldn't be paid and that it's theft but at the same time, I ask myself, if we want to become a successful country like the Netherlands, Luxembourg and etc, then how are we gonna achieve it without paying taxes? As far as I know, people in these countries pay very high taxes while in my country taxes are 20% and people find it super high (if you ask a random guy why Europeans live well, they'll answer you that in Europe they won't be paying taxes but they don't know what's reality, so talk out of thin air). In the end, I came to the conclusion that without taxes, we can't build a good country but how should we fix this situation? Government is corrupt and people don't want to pay, even if the government changes, people still fear that another government will spend collected taxes for their own benefit. There is hopelessness, lack of honesty and lack of education, that's bad.

Well said, you are one of the few people here who see things the way they should, in an economic way. Many are just being overbearing and unreasonable, if the world follows their ideas, the security and economy will collapse, but they know nothing about these implications. Taxes are crucial and the countries that pay more taxes are the better developed countries in the world. However, the government must be up and doing, they must be made accountable because if people are paying taxes and it is not used properly, it's a problem on its own. This is the reason why many African countries wallow in poverty and underdevelopment.

I don't think anyone would be generous enough to know this but still pay taxes to the government. I'm not saying that tax protesters are right, but they also have reasons for not wanting to pay taxes. If the governments of every country acted like the governments of developed countries, they could create jobs, stabilize prices...and try to bring stability to people's lives. I believe that people will be willing and eager to pay taxes instead of evading taxes as they are doing now.

Fear or not, there's nothing we can do specially if it was that been imposed by the government itself on which they could be able to apply it out directly or indirectly when it comes into those tax deductions whether we do like it or not. Its true that there's no issue if they will really be that imposing those taxes as long it will really be that be used on the right way and there would really be no involvement when it comes to corruption. We do know that when it comes to money then human beings do really get greedy, they will really be putting up that priority among into themselves rather than into the country and into its citizens, this is why it will really be resulting into those misused of those funds or taxes on which it supposed to be that used into the development of a certain vicinity. It is really just that too sad that there are indeed places in the world whose really that corruption couldn't really be stopped and making those things on broad daylight. Is there something that citizens could do? Nothing. If you do tend to make those opposition then tendency that huge problems might come in your way, this is why we would really be rather tend to keep our mouth shut instead on trying to expose those obvious corruptions.

If taxes will just go with this people I guess being patriotic person and responsible person is useless since we cannot get anything improvement with those greedy politicians. But I guess we don't have any choice but to continue and next time the only thing needed to do is to select new leader that can possibly bring those progress that they want. Also so that they would see on where their money goes and see certain improvements if they choose responsible leaders.

Tax is theft when it is overly implemented, it does not in any way support the poor or make life better for them. It makes life worse for those below average. If the heavy tax imposed were cut out for those average and well to do people, it would have been less intimidating. The taxes are scary, and it has turned theft in my own understanding and that is why I strive so much to get my incomes from investments and working for companies remotely, so the government does not have a direct grasp on my finances.

Tax is theft when it is overly implemented, it does not in any way support the poor or make life better for them.
Taxes are not a "Robin Hood" tool of taking from the rich and giving to the poor. In theory, the benefits of taxes should go to society as a whole, but in fact, the distribution is uneven and not in the interests of society (the taxed). It makes life worse for those below average.
Typically, some tax benefits apply to these. If the heavy tax imposed were cut out for those average and well to do people, it would have been less intimidating.
Without taxes there will be no budget revenues, so abolition is impossible. The problem with taxes is not in the fact of tax collection, but in the inept and untargeted use of these taxes. Many countries have such a problem as corruption, which devours taxes for the enrichment of officials and their lackeys. The taxes are scary, and it has turned theft in my own understanding and that is why I strive so much to get my incomes from investments and working for companies remotely, so the government does not have a direct grasp on my finances.
Investment income is subject to tax burden (obligation to use brokers and pay taxes on profits). Any source of income, whether it is remote work, is subject to tax (if not you, then the employer is obliged to pay). The government has no direct control over this, but it has direct control to punish you (or the employer or broker) for not paying taxes.

And I agree with the author of the topic. Yes, I think that taxes are theft. I have thought about this question many times. But I have never come to such a simple conclusion. It turns out that everything lies on the surface.
For what reason should I part with my property? I did not participate in the vote on this issue. So why the hell did they decide to take away my money, which I earned with my own labor, without me? This is absurd. I can understand when a country has a high standard of living, but this is not the case. Most citizens live as if they were in the poorest African countries, but taxes are getting higher. I don’t want to use swear words, but this is already a cry from the heart.
