TSB Bank teller stole $28,000 from customers to feed her gambling addiction

How far do people go to feed a gambling addiction?

In this story we have a young bank teller, 28 years old lady, who stole 28,000$ from four different elders who were suffering from health and cognitive problems. Her goal was to fuel a gambling addiction, as presented by the defense at the court.

Families must be attentive to their elders when going to the bank and dealing with money in general. Scammers and thieves are everywhere and always ready to take advantage of the vulnerability of such individuals at an advanced age.

Addiction of all kinds can lead people to stealing, but it's not an excuse. There are other addicts out there who make a solid red line that they may have an addiction but would not stoop to other criminal behavior in order to fund it. I'd imagine that there are other, deeper, problems in her life that pushed her to take these more extreme actions and she is simply using gambling to escape. Nonetheless she must be punished, but hopefully incarceration gives her the ability to break free from this addiction because it will allow her mind to rebuild her habits. She was too weak to cut herself off entirely, but this will force her to give it up because she simply will not have access to gambling facilities like she did previously - I doubt jailhouse gambling will give the same thrills.

Sure, but how could families prevent this? It's not like that bank teller that steals asks those customers permission to use their money. So it's bank's responisibility to check their workers, it's not a families job. This is why banks have deep background checking. And problem gambling would likely show if they would look at their bank statements from a long time. In here, one bank forbid their workers to own or buy crypto, because they were panicking that it would affect similarly to gambling problems and when workers deal with other people's money, their security level needs to be high. You don't get that by being irresponsible, and gambling is one sign that worker just might not be responsible with money.

At first I was even looking at this story to be linked to a man but surprisingly, I don't know that females can still get this far be of being a gambling addict to steal such an amount of money, This is addiction and greed coupled together, I guess her aim of stealing this money would have been that she wanted to double down the money since it wasn't that a little amount, hoping that she will make an huge amount of profit.
Its unusual since usually men would really be that getting involved on such situations on which we know that men are really that high risks takers and taking up some actions on which they do know that they would really be putting themselves at trouble, but looking into this scenario then its really that totally different since we are involving a bank teller which is a woman which is really that very unusual.

Speaking about addiction then we do know that there's no such thing about exemptions or having those exclusions about on who would be the one to be that ending up into this kind of condition.
Everyone would really be having those chances or conditions that they would really be getting addicted. On the the moment that they would really be working into something which connects about
money and other similar firm then high chances that they would really be finding up ways that they could be able to make use of someones funds without any consent. They do know on what are the processes
and on what are the possible bypasses for them not to get caught.

You would really be ending up on such condition if you are really that making that addiction would control over you. You are the ones who would really be putting up
yourself on such trouble on which if you do find yourself that being highly reactive to gambling then you should have quit up earlier and dont wait up for things to becomes messy.

Stealing is one thing many people frown about and it is never a good story to illustrate to others because it has a bad reputation which could tanish the image of people. I know gambling addiction can be quite risky for us but not to the extend of stealing what does not belong to you. Money that is meant for someone else is now being taken away from the person without any awareness. It is good we should always work on ourselves so we don't have to put our personality into problems. Gambling is for the strong ones not for people who do not have self control on what they should do and not to do. This is a strong we all have to learn from when it comes to gambling.

The worst part of this story is that this bank teller decided to steal from the weak and vulnerable. To carry out her criminal act, she targeted those who couldn't scrutinize their accounts and discovered that something wrong was going on. I know a few bankers who gamble, and they do it responsibly.

I don't know if Karma is real because I see many corrupt politicians who stole from the coffers of our country living good lives together with their families and cronies. I begin to wonder why these criminals who caused pain and death because of their corruption are still living big even when people say Karma exists. Maybe the karma consequences might affect their children or grandchildren.

Anyway, I will never degrade myself to the extent of stealing from anybody because it is immoral. If someone steals from me, I wouldn't be pleased, so why would I steal from someone else?

As long as you are doing something bad, it will be reveal in the public it is just a matter of time. There is what is call law of Karma, it is always going to catch up with you. Another thing is that addiction will make you act out of control to take what is good or bad. This is why I am not surprised that she was caught because she has being doing it over and over again.

Bad acts have their classification, but there is nothing uglier and lower than stealing, I think that sometimes some do not understand that stolen things bring bad things, at first the wrongdoer may enjoy, but after some time things will not be the same, everything has its way of paying and there is nothing worse that can become karma, the fact that a person justifies their addiction through theft, makes things look even worse, with the simple addiction it is something very ugly, but stealing, I think that tarnishes any activity and unfortunately that is what causes addiction.

Addicted gamblers have different mindset, they will do everything in their power to have the money to continue with their gambling, no matter what the cost is, including stealing, or borrowing big money from others with no intention to return it even if they win.

So this is just a classic example, the teller see those accounts that have huge money and so she put up a plan that she is going to steal from this unsuspecting victim. And her plot works and she was able to withdraw money, until such time that she was caught. Just imagine if the banks didn't notice it or the victims themselves, she could have siphoned all the money from the old and fragile victims.

It ruins their reputation, and even their family still feels the impact of those evil deeds. This is to say that addiction has nothing to do with our lives but disaster. A gambler who can control themselves leads to stealing money, and the worst thing is committing suicide.

Many instances happen like this, and I couldn't really imagine why their lives turn like this, knowing that they know what is good and what is bad. In fact, many gamblers have been gambling for many years, but they are still doing well and enjoying it.
I think we need to learn how to respond in every situation we encounter, not by letting our emotions burst, because this will influence our mindset.

This is not new, older people are the most targeted victims around the world by scammers, the older they are the easier to make a fool out of them simply because older people don't have much idea about technology, this is the biggest challenge for old generations till this day, once scammers call them they will pretend to be calling from the bank and start asking them for vital information and stuff.

In this Bank worker case she is been consumed by her greed, this is a common problem with people, not even because they are into gambling, it is something that I have seen non gamblers do too.

You will be surprised that even if she won the gambling games she might not even think about returning those money back to where they originally belong to, this could be the type of people that will take people out so that they will avoid paying back what they owe, this is one of the reasons why I don't lend money to people.

Bank teller stole $28,000 from customers to feed her gambling addiction this is must be crazy right I mean how did the teller manage to steal their customer money? and how the police know that the money was stolen.

Read the OP with the link to the news attached to it, and you’ll find out. As a bank teller, they are always dealing with money, so it’s easy for them to get tempted, especially if they’re addicted to gambling. And of course, as a bank, they have a system to trace transactions, and probably during an audit, this was discovered. As per report, one of the depositors complained, leading to an investigation that uncovered the entire amount of money being stolen from different depositors.

even my friend experienced the same thing. he is a bank branch manager. somehow he did it but the amount of customer money he used was quite large. he was caught and admitted that he did it not once but several times until he was finally caught and finally confessed.

bank tellers can do it, let alone a bank manager. they know how to hide it all. my friend admitted that he was entangled in online loans because his money was used up for gambling. while the money from the loan he used for his living needs.
we can see that the salary of a bank teller and manager is actually not small. but it's just that their behavior of gambling irresponsibly makes them always short of money to bet. Their behavior is bad because it has involved and harmed other people. and now all the bigger consequences must be accepted. refunds, prison sentences, and loss of jobs.

That kind of risk is always present since anyone dealing with money is at risk of being tempted to steal. It’s wrong if the bank doesn’t have strong internal controls to prevent that from happening. Although they can put the people involved in stealing in jail, the bank’s reputation is also affected, which could potentially result in losing clients. Since banking is a business built on trust, how can clients trust them if things like that happen within the bank?
On the moment that addiction hits hard into a certain individual and able to fail out on doing such control and moderation then you would really be that most likely be ending up with this kind of condition on which you would really be that making yourself getting involved into these acts on which we know that it could really be able to end up on having that legal punishment on the time that its been proven guilty or simply being caught.
Just like on being said or mentioned on which on the moment that you do put up yourself on such condition then it would really be that hard to control oneself on not to commit out those kind of stealing of funds
on which this is really that indeed the right place on doing such thing since this one is really that involves money. You would really be finding up ways for you to get those funds without being noticed.

As we do all know that there's no secret that would really be kept hidden forever o which you might not be caught now but sooner or later it would surely happen. This is why on the moment or time that you've seen
yourself being that addicted to gambling and since your work is connected about huge sums of money then it would really be just that right that you should really be that stopping if ever you would be having
the chance if you wont really be liking to mess up your life into his regard.

Wow guys hahah I'm still shock that my post got these much replied but I'm really agree with you that addiction to gambling is serious things and we all need to get rid of it. We need to control our gambling habit at least for now and to be honest it is crazy to see something like this ever happened

28K is a lot of money I would say according to google Bank teller salary is around 45K a year so it need at least 6 month to recover 28K

But that is if he spends nothing and uses his entire salary to pay back what he stole.

Yeah I mean the addiction is going crazy and spend those money is the real deal and 6 month is not a short of time.

         -    It's really true that when you do bad things to others, you will reap bad things for sure, or expect the consequences of what you did. It's just sad that because of the addiction that the bank teller has, he has become immune to mercy or no longer feels pity for his victim.

I can't imagine that just to sustain the health of his clients and survive in life, he even stole and denied that kind of thing, and that's quite sad and embarrassing, to be honest.

Just imagine if the banks didn't notice it or the victims themselves, she could have siphoned all the money from the old and fragile victims.
They will think how they will have money to continue playing gambling even if they must steal money from other people. They can do bad thing easily because they really want to return to casino and continue their gambling activity. That will be dangerous and risk for them because they can get in the jail when people catch them and gives a problem to themselves. If they borrow money from others, they will not think about return the money and will run away without paying the money.

She doing a wrong thing to fills her gambling addiction and thanks to CCTV on the bank that caught her doing that thing. She know about the system in the bank so she thinks that is her opportunity to have the money by stealing those accounts. Many things can be done by addicted people to gambling without we can imagine because they can find that way to have the money. We guess that she has a heavy gambling addiction that needs to cure.

That is an example of when someone is addicted to gambling and cannot manage it well. I am sure he chose to steal customer money because he thought if he won with a profit of 10 or 20% or even 2x then he would get tens of thousands of dollars in a short time. I am sure he did not gamble for fun but made gambling as one of his sources of income. Someone said never use your salary to gamble especially by going into debt. Now he chose to steal to gamble. This is really very bad because he has chosen to destroy his own life.

Hopefully , the guy addiction won't have any continuation and everyone will get their money back in time because 28k$ is a lot of money and I can't imagine how people like to gamble huge amount of money...

Don't worry about the money stolen by the teller because it's insured. As a result, the depositors will not lose their money and can withdraw it anytime, as $28k may not be too big for a bank. The person involved, who is a woman, will face a lawsuit. If she is proven guilty, which is likely, she will have to go to jail. Since this news has already been published, it would not be good if the issue were settled quietly, as it would damage the bank's reputation and erode trust. It's a lesson for those of us handling finances: we should not let gambling dictate our actions, as this could lead to regret in the end.

I think that if we do good deeds in our lives, in some way life and God our Heavenly Father will bless us, maybe not with money but with actions, health, with our children, whatever, well why not? also with money, on the other hand, people who do evil, maybe in the moment will benefit, but throughout their life they will pay for it with something, stealing is never good or accepted, I think that a person like that, for committing a misdeed like that will not only receive jail time, but also the repudiation of a conglomerate worldwide.

When one is trapped in addiction, it can be mind-consuming and drive the person to commit crimes such as theft, in order to satisfy their impulse.

It also serves as a reminder that we need to be extra careful, especially with the more vulnerable members of the family. Because this type of fraud can happen anywhere and gambling addiction can lead someone up to a very dangerous amount of encouragement.

Not only does it show the risk of gambling addiction, but it also drives home how many lives are affected: those not only of the perpetrators who destroy their own lives but also at the cost of the sufferers on whom the wrongs were perpetrated. This indicates how necessary support and monitoring in overcoming an addiction is.

Actually this is the same, in the case that occurred it has been explained that Bank teller committed crime to make money with the aim of being used as capital in gambling, he is an addict and tries to continue to be able to fulfill all his desires for gambling or betting activities.
It is not about mental problems but mindset that has been damaged due to too much desire in the heart and mind to always gamble, there is no place that can cure it except his own desire to try to recover, this is problem that has happened lot.
People like this may when they have received punishment for what they have done such as serving prison sentence for stealing money can make them have deterrent attitude and feel they have to start forgetting about gambling.

The amount of money stolen will be returned, but the damage to the reputation is huge. However, there’s no banking system that can assure this kind of incident won’t happen, as they hire people, and sometimes people are dishonest. Even with a system in place, if someone is desperate for money, they might find a way to steal. I’m sure there are members here in the forum who work in financial institutions, not only in banks but other institutions as well, so hopefully, they’ll see this as a serious warning of what could potentially happen if they allow themselves to get addicted.
