This story is beyond addiction and people who are having mental issues because of gambling should immediately getting hospitalized and looking for help because ruining other people lives just because you love to gamble is simply unacceptable. Hopefully , the guy addiction won't have any continuation and everyone will get their money back in time because 28k$ is a lot of money and I can't imagine how people like to gamble huge amount of money...
Don't worry about the money stolen by the teller because it's insured. As a result, the depositors will not lose their money and can withdraw it anytime, as $28k may not be too big for a bank. The person involved, who is a woman, will face a lawsuit. If she is proven guilty, which is likely, she will have to go to jail. Since this news has already been published, it would not be good if the issue were settled quietly, as it would damage the bank's reputation and erode trust. It's a lesson for those of us handling finances: we should not let gambling dictate our actions, as this could lead to regret in the end.
The amount of money stolen will be returned, but the damage to the reputation is huge. However, there’s no banking system that can assure this kind of incident won’t happen, as they hire people, and sometimes people are dishonest. Even with a system in place, if someone is desperate for money, they might find a way to steal. I’m sure there are members here in the forum who work in financial institutions, not only in banks but other institutions as well, so hopefully, they’ll see this as a serious warning of what could potentially happen if they allow themselves to get addicted.

Right, the money can be returned but the reputation it will remain like a stain it will reflects to the business that the threat is always possible to happen again, just like what you said, it's a wake up call to those who are working not just for the financial institutions but to any business that involves money especially huge amount of money, if you failed and lose your control to gambling chances that you'll be in the same situation so better to prevent yourself from getting too much involve to avoid this same mistake happens to you.

How far do people go to feed a gambling addiction?

In this story we have a young bank teller, 28 years old lady, who stole 28,000$ from four different elders who were suffering from health and cognitive problems. Her goal was to fuel a gambling addiction, as presented by the defense at the court.

Families must be attentive to their elders when going to the bank and dealing with money in general. Scammers and thieves are everywhere and always ready to take advantage of the vulnerability of such individuals at an advanced age.
A similar case happened to my grams, who has little knowledge of technology. She accesses her bank account via her cell phone. One day she received a call from the bank manager telling her to go to the branch urgently. From what she said, the call was intercepted by someone who claimed to be a bank employee. He then asked for sensitive account information, such as the password to access the app and her credit card information. Unfortunately, she was tricked and gave up all the access details.

The result was a withdrawal about of $1000 debited from her account and a loan that I don't remember the amount, but it was very high. Unfortunately, she was alone at home. There was no one to stop her from doing what she did.

Deceiving the elderly and other vulnerable people is a strategy often adopted by criminals. They carry out these scams without much effort. Unless the elderly person is not accompanied when they carry out the scam, they can succeed.

One of the main reasons on why those criminals would really be targeting out the elderly because they are really that easily on getting fooled specially in todays technology on which it is really that too easy to execute
specially on getting someones personal details on which it would really be causing up that those kind of incidents on those funds stolen without permission just because you had just that been fooled out.
Even lets say that someone is really that together with the elderly but if those transactions made out privately then it would really be still having those high chances that it would really be that become
a successful way of stealing funds on which we know that once information is really that leaked out then those funds are really that on accessed. In this case on which we've seen we are really that seeing
someone is really that addicted on gambling, and having those acts on making use of other peoples funds just to feed up his/her addiction. As shown that this is really talking about on a bank teller which
mostly a woman which it is really that unlikely on seeing this kind of condition on a female gender on which we know that they are really that good when it comes to self control and being practical in terms of money.
This do really proves out that there's no gender that would be having some exemptions in speaking about addiction. Everyone could really be affected and if you arent that good when it comes to self control
and discipline then you are really that highly susceptible with that gambling addiction that we do call.

The high rate of gambling addiction is just to much in the society and its causing alot of damage as well ranging from minor issues to majority and it's turning the individual to something else, and in this aspects some have driven their quest to rob customers in the bank without their knowledge.

Just imagine the smart moves of this Lady all for the sake of her gambling addiction, could it be that women are now loosed in this aspect to results to causing havoc because I don't see a reason why that lady should become addicted, probably she's driving at something big but it's not an avenue to channel your taste of greed to theft, it's indeed a bad name to her and the bank as well.
Honestly I do have double check on bankers and a more reason the elderly ones should be careful and go with a second party when running some crucial bank issues.

This do really proves out that there's no gender that would be having some exemptions in speaking about addiction. Everyone could really be affected and if you arent that good when it comes to self control
and discipline then you are really that highly susceptible with that gambling addiction that we do call.

The more I read about this topic, the more I'm confused and refused my mind from complaining thread but when I look at the amount stole, that's something that is too low for her to risk her position of bank work for $28k. She could earned in that her work and also increase in the salary and also the position but stole $28k to ruined everything for herself, that's cold thing to do and I pity her for been either addicted or she doesn't have way to make deposit and enjoy layer.

If it ever get to sbatge where my mind will tell me to put hands in where I do work and earn money or where I been paid a salary, I will forever give gambling a good bye. I will not every try it again because such debt is something you will never get out from and even if you are able to, your reputation will be damage in the line and you might even jeopardize your career as you might get sack, don't get promotion or not get a good recommendation in the future.

And the more you read about this topic and trying to comprehend, you won't because you don't know what is inside the mind of a addicted gamblers, the crime they commit and the consequences when they are caught. Just like what you said here, she could well be earning more than what she stolen, nevertheless, her judgement is very clouded and her mind and telling him different from his reality.

If it ever get to sbatge where my mind will tell me to put hands in where I do work and earn money or where I been paid a salary, I will forever give gambling a good bye. Good for you, but then again, as I have said, addicted gambling have very different mindset. And we even have thread that a gambling tries to kidnap once of his relative in exchange of money so that he can continue to gamble. So this lady is not thinking about her job and her promotion, she simply wants other source of money so she stole from some of their old customers so that it will be under the radar.

Honestly I do have double check on bankers and a more reason the elderly ones should be careful and go with a second party when running some crucial bank issues.

That's right, it's really a risk for those elderly as they can ends up like this, there's always a possibilities that a situation like this might happened, as there are people who will failed to do their task without being tempted I mean not just to gambling alone but other things can influence them, and though the bank may be able to recover or to replace the amount of money but the security of those people that being affected already been exposed and the chance that they can experienced that same thing is not by far, though in this incident the lady who did this act are being addicted and her mindset is how to find the money to use and he resort things with her job and take those money who's not belongs to her.

How far do people go to feed a gambling addiction?

In this story we have a young bank teller, 28 years old lady, who stole 28,000$ from four different elders who were suffering from health and cognitive problems. Her goal was to fuel a gambling addiction, as presented by the defense at the court.
That’s surprising. I don’t know why people just have to do crazy things just because they want to gamble. Why do you have to steal from elderly people who are having health challenges just because you want to satisfy yourself? People like this are the ones that make most people think gambling is a bad activity, but they won’t know it’s just some people's stupidity. Gambling is supposed to be fun, and we shouldn’t do things that will hurt ourselves or other people. Seriously,  the person should be properly punished so that next time things like that won’t repeat themselves and it’s going serve as warning to others.

Seriously,  the person should be properly punished so that next time things like that won’t repeat themselves and it’s going serve as warning to others.

I think there is no doubt that the action was taken because someone had entered the addiction phase, and I also think there have been quite a lot of terrible cases that we have heard about the recklessness of a gambler in making decisions or taking action when they have entered the addiction phase, such as committing crimes or other crazy things like suicide.
It was all done because they were too obsessed with winning, or because they were already trapped in the goal of gambling to reach the recovery phase related to the amount of money that was previously lost due to defeat.

And yes, it is true as you said that people like this are the ones who make gambling have a very bad stigma in the eyes of most people, even though it is clear that if we know the case, gambling is not bad, but gamblers like that have a bad way of treating their gambling activities so that it causes various significant problems for themselves and others, there is no pleasure whatsoever when a gambler is in that situation, and this is why addiction is a cycle that we must always avoid.

I am surprised at how an employee can access other people's money so easily. In my country, an employee can only make transfers or withdrawals if the customer enters their password or performs a biometric validation. If by chance the customer needs to withdraw money without the password, only the bank manager can reset the password or authorize a withdrawal without the customer's validation.

Anyway... regardless of how this happened, the reason for it happening is easy: Gambling addiction.

People steal other people's objects, rob their own family, sell cars and houses to have money to gamble, so why wouldn't someone with "easy access" to other people's money do the same to support their addiction!?

Surely the elderly were reimbursed by the bank, and this employee should be duly punished, but he probably doesn't have the money to pay compensation or a fine.

Families must be attentive to their elders when going to the bank and dealing with money in general. Scammers and thieves are everywhere and always ready to take advantage of the vulnerability of such individuals at an advanced age.
This is really sad to hear about, allowing your gambling addiction to get to this point where they will have to risk there job credibility just to be able to fund their addiction, such should be relieved of their job for awhile and probably sent for rehabilitation because just persecuting them may not be enough to get them to stop such habit, they will need to be helped to get them stopping such a habit because ordinarily they wouldn't stop such habit as a normal person since its been part of them and such that has gotten to that point is obviously that they are at the point where they literally need help to help them get out of such.

As for families of elders who are at such age, it will be very good if they will try as much as possible to keep their accounts active such that it doesn't get dormant because dormancy is the only reason the account could be compromised in such a way because if the account is active, the teller wouldn't want to attempt such knowing it will be noticed almost immediately.

Yeah, someone who has accessed to someone's fund and they've seen the disadvantage of these elderly that they might be forgetful about their funds and resources has been taken advantaged by the teller. It's for sure that the bank have done a legal action together with the victims so that this teller will learn the lesson the baddest way and shouldn't take people's hard earned money easily.

The bank's policy into hiring recruitment for sure have also became stricter and they'll read and learn the background of their future employees if they have been involved with gambling or any related kind of activities so that they're not only protecting their company's reputation but also the welfare of their customers as well as their funds. Because it's about the customers that they're working with and the customer satisfaction is what gives them the kind of living not only for the company but also to its employees.

The problem is, there won’t be fun anymore if we don’t have funds to sustain our gambling addiction. That’s why while looking for that fun, addicted gamblers have resorted into making certain decisions that will definitely put them into big troubles. Although they’re aware what will be the future consequences, but just to sustain their current addiction, they do things like stealing some funds so they can continuously enjoy their gambling addiction.
