I was looking at Satoshi's profile and noticed that it had no picture, did he ever use a profile picture on his bitcointalk account? Did he have one previously and delete it? Although I guess he might have never had one because I think bitcointalk might have added profile pictures as a feature years after the site went live, or maybe that's gif profile pictures I'm thinking of and not regular images. Sorry if it's a dumb question but it's just something that just came to mind.

I don't think he did, most of the post interaction that he's got are mostly from the old forum from sourceforge, basically meant that he didn't have much interaction in this forum and I doubt a profile picture is ever going to be a thing for Satoshi, that might give some way for Internet sleuths to know who's the person behind the enigma, I mean there's not really any profile picture feature here in the forum, maybe the avatar but I don't think it's going to occur to him, even his email interactions have the default profile pictures.

There is no option to use profile pic in this forum. You can use avatar as picture. But no one uses their own picture as avatar. You can enter the email used in his profile, the email profile can have his picture.

this forum is mainly for communicating and does not really require anyone to show their faces this is not a social media platform like facebook or instagram where people share about their lives

besides all of us go under nicknames in order to hide our real identities holding bitcoin or anything important digitally can be a threat to our lives if our identities were shown everywhere

Sorry didn't mean a profile picture like his actual face, I was talking about the avatars that some users have. If he didn't have any avatar on bitcointalk maybe he had one on another forum or site that he used.

I don't think he had an avatar in the one year he lasted on the forum and if you ask me, I feel that will be the last thing to be on his mind as he took his privacy very seriously. Again, he may have had a display pic or an avatar but we would have seen such from the countless users who have posted one or two things about the founder of Bitcoin. Also, maybe if there isn't, like I mentioned about him being private and all, probably it was done to avoid being tracked? Just saying.

Sorry if it's a dumb question but it's just something that just came to mind.

I don't think this is a dumb question. You ask to learn and with three or more replies you would have gotten your answer. I'd have been surprised if Satoshi had had any profile picture considering that he is a symbol of the word anonymous. What I think is that in the cyberpunks groups where they had earlier hanged out and exchanged ideas, he/they would have had a picture but soon took it down before anyone could trace anything back to him. It is just a guess though so I could be wrong.

Well first of all OP I will say you didn't ask a dumb question, after all we all are here to learn and discover more about bitcoin and it owner, so back your question I will said satoshi didn't add a profile picture on his account, cause from the little research I made about this post I didn't see any important information about this so I gist he did not.

Bitcointalk allows users include newbie members to upload and wear avatars before policy change to no longer allow newbie members to wear avatar, after a hack.

It can be in early years, earlier than 2011 before newbie restriction on avatar.
Newbie restrictions

Accepting default Bitcoin avatars in 2012.
Avatars re-enabled but only Full members can wear avatars in 2015.

If satoshi account has ever worn an avatar and not taken it off by himself, the avatar will still be on his account because of glitch as you can see with old newbies with avatars.

This is the earliest snapshot of his profile (that I can find): https://web.archive.org/web/20100716225740/bitcoin.org/smf/index.php?action=profile;u=3
Dated July 16, 2010, Old Bitcoin Forum under "bitcoin.org" before it migrated to Bitcointalk.org.

He has no avatar, and no it's not the archive since other members' avatars are showing just fine.
e.g.: https://web.archive.org/web/20100729162427/http://www.bitcoin.org/smf/index.php?topic=151.0
(for some reason, it's being renamed to "bitcointalk" if I use [url] tags, so just copy paste the url)

What kind of question is this? Why would he uses profile picture when he wanted anonymity in his invention?

And as what @nc50lc - the snapshot shows nothing, even majority of us here haven't used our own profile picture in this community. Although someone can used their avatar to  maybe represented themselves, but we are not willing to show our images here.

But if you talk about avatar, @TheBeardedBaby has one of the most recognizable.

Although someone can used their avatar to  maybe represented themselves, but we are not willing to show our images here.
Other forum members can use their own identity images, resize these images and upload it to the forum as their avatars but I am sure with you that Satoshi Nakamoto never do this.

He is a person (assume as a person), with serious concern about privacy and doing this practice to reveal his true identity is not his favorite practice. Satoshi Nakamoto always uses Tor, theymos said.

https://forum.torproject.org/t/satoshi-nakamoto-was-a-tor-user/3982
I'll probably release Satoshi's PMs and logged IPs addresses in ~8 years. This'd probably be of great historical interest. (Though he always used Tor, as far as I can tell.)

Sorry if it's a dumb question but it's just something that just came to mind.

Not everything that sometimes comes to mind needs to be voiced. It’s extraordinary to see this from an account that woke up from a rather long absence from the forum. But also, the question seems quite stupid, since you, OP, should understand that Satoshi fought for privacy, and that is, no one else like him would do something like show his photo and add it as an avatar. On the other hand, if you expect to see any pictures on his profile, what will that do for you? Will you be happy to know this?

I don’t know if people are ever going to give up this idea of finding Satoshi. If there was a real clue that could help uncover the identity of Satoshi, it would have been found by now. Satoshi was very careful with his privacy, even if BTT supported profile pictures, do you think such person would put his photo as on his profile?

Did Satoshi ever use a profile picture on bitcointalk?
I wasn't there when Satoshi was here and I was here on September 06, 2014 with ID 374937. Satoshi ID profile 3 as founder in 2009. There is a gap of several years so I don't know whether Satoshi's account uses a profile picture or avatar.
Why do you want to know about this even though on the one hand it is important for you, even though for me knowing about Bitcoin as the best solution in the financial system is more important and maintaining Bitcoin as a legacy from it.

It's not a dumb question at all.
I think that Satoshi never used images or pictures for any of his public profiles, that includes bitcointalk forum and p2pfoundation.
I also think that he didn't upload or post links for any images in his forum posts, someone can correct me if I am wrong on that, but he probably thought this could be a security issue.
Images can contain exif metadata information.

He obviously meant avatar pic, he just worded it differently.

But no one uses their own picture as avatar.
Hal Finney (Bitcoin OG and person who recieved the very first Bitcoin transaction from satoshi)) used his own picture as avatar, and there are probably more cases of bitcointalk member using own picture (even though its definitely not the smart thing to do).

In the early days of bitcointalk, users were using the avatar space as a profile picture. Majority of them were even using their personal pictures at the avatar space. But even if everyone used their personal pictures as their avatar, satoshi would definitely not do that. This is because he already planned his anonymity and pseudonymity before creating bitcoin. This is why all loopholes were covered. He was privacy oriented, and not that he remembered privacy in the midway when he already leaked his information.

The mistake I think he made was first creating an account with the name 'admin'. Maybe he immediately realised that here is supposed to be someone private and decentralized. He created another account with Satoshi. I don't think that the forum is a place that will help you unvail Satoshi, rather it is a place to help us expose fake Satoshis.
