Someone who tries to tell others to stop gambling but they are still gambling is like telling people not to swim because the water is deep but they are already in the pool. That obviously won't have any effect and I think people on this forum also understand that when they are gamblers then there is no way they can prohibit other people's activities to gamble because it is clearly impossible, it's just that in this case we as both players must remind each other that gambling is not a good thing if it continues to be done without good control so that even if we still gamble in the end but when we can control the gambling activities we do and can overcome the problems that will arise from gambling then at least it can minimize so that we don't think gambling is everything.

I personally feel that we all cannot forbid each other to stop gambling as long as we are still gambling but we can remind each other so that we do not fall into a situation where we are addicted too badly which ultimately harms ourselves.

This is why I put forward this advice: before you advise someone to quit gambling as a gambler, you have to hide your gambling activities from them so it doesn't look like you are advising them to do something that you yourself cannot do.
I do not agree with this advice. I even think it makes your advice weightier if you are a gambler and you are not addicted to it, this shows the person that there are ways to engage in this activity without it having negative effects on you.
An addict will easily think a non-gambler cannot relate to them cause they have not gotten engaged in it and will think if they do, they will get addicted like them too.

If the addicted gambler refuses to recognize a problem at all, no other recovery steps will work.
His advice is valid if we are advising someone that are yet to start their journey in gambling to not do it but if they are already a gambler, then your advice here is more valid. I think that an addict gambler can still make an advice and someone might still believe them if they see how hard their situation was. Even without an advice, we can still do a research of our own if we think we don't know what is there beyond simply playing the game.

We don't need to start a thing only to say that we can relate to what others have experienced. That's bullshit in my opinion and yeah that what if we are already addicted? Can they do something to help us? I bet they can't.

I believe that any possible methods that will help an addicted player to play less is already good. They may seem insignificant at first glance and may even be ineffective, but over time on a subconscious level this can change and this will affect the player. This could be advice from friends to play less, or from a wife, it could also be the discovery of a new hobby for the player, which is really interesting to him and allows him to earn money at the same time, and other various things that can weaken his concentration from games. The addict will think about them every day and shifting his focus is already a small victory for him personally and the people around him. A long journey begins with a small step, so it’s never too late to start on the path to combating gambling addiction.

Advising others to quit gambling while we are still active participants is akin to advising against swimming while already immersed in the pool, equally fruitless, as telling someone to abstain from alcohol while clutching a beer bottle. It is pointless. The members of this forum likely comprehend that if we ourselves indulge in gambling, we cannot feasibly dissuade others from participating in the activity.

But let us remember as fellow players, that gambling is not a healthy pursuit if done incessantly without restraint. Though we may still indulge in gambling, if we are able to exercise control over our gambling practices and tackle issues that may crop up as a result, we can mitigate the adverse effects, preventing it from consuming every aspect of our lives.

Personally, I don't think we can stop each other from gambling as long as we are doing it, but we can remind each other not to fall into self-destructive addictions.

That's true, in most cases someone doesn't suddenly get addicted to gambling, they have underlying issues such as depression and gambling is their getaway.
Most people that have been gambling recently are not doing it because they are having problems. The reason why most of them gamble is just for the sake of money, most of them just want to make money from gambling, and in the process of doing that, they do end up being addicted to gambling because some are always trying to win back their losses, which is really dangerous in gambling. Some won’t stop gambling because they believe if they don’t give up, they will end up winning big one day, so they won’t stop gambling even when they are supposed to stop.

even if you ban access to casinos or to their finances, they're still going to find a way to override any obstacles you put in their way.
Trying to ban gambling addiction finance can’t stop them from gambling. Addicted gamblers do end up doing crazy things just for the sake of gambling,  they might end up selling their properties or stealing from people just to make money to gamble.

I believe someone who isn't having problems with their gambling activities doesn't need to hide that they gamble too, but they can use this as an example to make the other gamblers understand that if they practice patience and gamble responsibly, they won't have gambling ruin their lives but if they gamble recklessly and spend excessive amounts of money and time on it, they will have a lot of negative effects on their life due to gambling.

What I think is that if a person takes advice seriously and understands what they are being told and doesn't ignore such things, they will understand even if another gambler is advising them about gambling, they would know that they are saying what makes sense because they have experience in the same thing like them.

If you also notice that these people are gambling as a source of income, you can help them find other, more reliable sources of income while advising them that gambling is not a source of income so that they no longer see gambling in that light.
This is a very prominent and the most effective of them all, I believe that stopping something is easier and faster when you replace that same thing with another thing of same or more importance.

Advising someone to quit something bad is more effective when it's done practically in this manner, like throw away this and replace it with that. Any sensible gambler who's grabbing for funds and gets such offer would embrace it safe from entirely lazy ones who're afraid to take up anything challenging.

I still buttress the need to have a signed agreement with the gambler tho be of good behavior going forward in order to keep his spot in the opportunity.

Finding a more reliable means of income, it should be the ultimate target for the common man. Gambling is challenging and I wouldn't recommend it for anyone close to me becthe negative effects always end in devastated position. There's several methods to apply if one is keen on  stopping gambling, it's not consider an easy pathh down but the best results is strictly based on the physical changes.

Experience they say is the best teacher. There's no one who can best advice you of a situation or a predicament like someone who is affected by it. Addiction in gambling is a behaviorial type of addiction which affects one's mental health. While the addict understands he is addicted to gambling, he cannot change. Rather he can advice others to stop.

Yups and that applies to anything we do in life, especially in the scenario of our involvement in gambling, and if we talk about the chances of winning and the possibility of losing in gambling then actually there is nothing wrong and nothing right, or what we mean is defeat, right? means because you made a mistake, and winning doesn't mean because you gambled correctly, because in problem gambling the results always happen randomly, the point is that when you are lucky then you will win.

This means that a mistake is something that is not related to the results in gambling, a mistake that you make in your gambling activities is when you treat gambling beyond the limits of your abilities, such as gambling with an amount you cannot afford, or excessively determining the time, or having a wrong perspective towards gambling, such as considering that gambling is an activity that can provide income.

On the other hand, I hope you can explain the reasons why a gambler who is addicted will not be able to change, pay attention to other people by giving various suggestions according to the knowledge they have based on facts from their experience which ultimately makes him addicted, maybe that's good, but I think if you really realize that you are addicted and you also know what mistakes made you addicted then you should prioritize healing yourself rather than caring about other people, and you have said that experience is the best teacher, which means people should that can change.

Even as a responsible gambler, you may not be taken seriously if you advise another fellow gambler who is having problems and slowly becoming an addict to stop gambling completely.

This is why I put forward this advice: before you advise someone to quit gambling as a gambler, you have to hide your gambling activities from them so it doesn't look like you are advising them to do something that you yourself cannot do.

If you also notice that these people are gambling as a source of income, you can help them find other, more reliable sources of income while advising them that gambling is not a source of income so that they no longer see gambling in that light.

What other practical methods can we use to help addicted gamblers become better, aside from professional help?

NB: The discussion was first started on altcoinstalks.

Speaking from experience gambling addiction is very serious, some call it a disease and some people have committed suicide die to losses.. giving advice is a very good idea but it might not be enough, steps should be taken to restrict them from engaging in gambling for a long time, idleness is also a factor to chronic gambling, if you are in a good position, you can provide a helping hand to such a person to get something to do instead of doing nothing (an idle mind is the devil's workshop)

I agree with that. Sharing our own method of how we can discipline ourselves to gamble responsibly is a good way to make others understand how it works. The problem is, not everyone will hear it out, if they do, they don't listen at all because gambling has become a bad habit that is becoming more difficult to stop, especially in this era where advertisements are left and right and just one click to that ads will pop out everywhere.
That happened to me a few weeks ago when I accidentally pressed a gambling site and now it's coming out everywhere in my social media applications.
Gambling has become a norm now and I think we should be more strict about how responsible we are when we are spending our money in gambling.
