According to news, if Dangote refinery is fully functional, it will have capacity of 650000 barrels per day. Which means it is bigger than the whole four refineries combined. Dangote refinery is even buying crude oil from outside Nigeria like from United States. It is the Africa biggest refinery and the world's largest single train refinery according to what I read on news.

What I read last was that there was crude oil shortage in Nigeria. I am also surprised that Dangote is importing crude oil. The problem Nigeria has regarding oils is more than the damaged refinery. Some people making money from importing refined oils do not want functional refineries in Nigeria. After Dangote refinery has been working, this truth has surfaced and known already.

Those people benefiting from the importation of refined oils into the country should be termed as enemies of the nation if they don’t want a functional refinery in the country. A country proclaimed to be the giant of Africa without even one functional refinery is a big shame and the leaders that have caused this continue to just look out after their selfish interest and not the good living of the people that have voted them into those seats. Do you even think the news circulating of Nigeria haven shortage of crude oil is true? Couldn’t it have been another means of them to continue the crude oil importation to enrich themselves more? The last time I read about the crude oil reserves in places like Nigeria, it won’t have come to the point of them importing crude oil for their refineries.

Hello welcome to the forum, there is a board for Nigerians and most of our discussion.

This is the link to our board - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=275.0
I have reported this kind of post before but which was marked bad. Although, some were marked good in the past and moved to Nigeria local board. Since it was marked bad, I stopped reporting such post. I thought of it that some people may want people from other countries to contribute to the discussion and make them post the topic on English board.

When people argue about forms of government,  some people we say the military are better while some we say the democracy is better. But they really don't know that the type of government doesn't matter, but the individuals piloting the government that matter most, Nigeria refineries was built by the military government and they run it effectively,  the four refineries was working well under the military regimes. But under the Democratic government all are in bad shapes,  the worse part is that every government use it to steal money,  they pretend to repairs it but at the end not work in those refineries.  Under Buhari then minister of petroleum promised the nation that the portharcout refineries will work by the end of the buhari administration.  But nothing to show for it, Tinubu tenure has started working on the refineries again just to steal money. What actually that's the problem with the refineries that they can't solve?

The truth of the matter is, even if these refineries were functional today, it won't be able to cater for today's demand by the country. According to a statistics report I saw on the internet, the Nigerian oil consumption is approximately 428000 barrels of oil. Going by the figures you provided above, when you compare what we want and what those three refineries were to be producing, you will realize that if these refineries were to be functioning today, they can barely serve the nation of it needs. Now, imagine that these refineries have been almost useless as they don't even function right now.

According to news, if Dangote refinery is fully functional, it will have capacity of 650000 barrels per day. Which means it is bigger than the whole four refineries combined. As of today, a news report shows that Dangote refinery will be purchasing a total of 1 million barrels of fuel from the Brazilian crude to serve for the second half of next month. When Nigeria is supposed to be enjoying the refinery, if they were to sell domesticaly to the Dangote refinery. It is obvious to agree with you that our problem is way beyond just the refineries and as a matter of fact, has also caused the unfortunate situation of the refineries we face today. The oil cabals have always worked hard to truncate whatever success that should be recorded in the oil sector for their private accounts. What's more annoying is that these said people are more powerful than the government and seems to be the controllers of the government. I can't believe that a country like Nigeria which is supposed to be the giant of Africa can be put to its bear like this.

This Nigeria has been bad for so long see the refinery that are not work are paying staff, I think there is something behind this because how can the all refinery stopped and worker were been paid,

Quote
Nigeria refineries employ 1,586 new staff, pays N69 bn salary in 2020

Nigeria’s government-owned four refineries employed 1,586 new staff, paying salaries, wages and other benefits to unproductive workers to the tune of N69 billion, a BusinessDay calculation has shown.

According to the latest audited statements of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), two plants located in Port Harcourt with an installed capacity of 210,000 bpd employed 487 new staff members in 2020, northern Kaduna refinery with an installed capacity 110,000 of barrels per day (bpd) employed 655 new staffs, while the Warri refinery with an installed capacity of 125,000 bpd employed 444 new staffs within the same period.

Further analysis of the audited report revealed out of the 487 staff members employed in Port Harcourt refinery, 430 were senior and management staff, amounting to 88.2 percent, with huge financial implications. Only 57 were junior staff members.

Our Nigerian refineries are not functioning and are left abandoned is not because Nigeria, doesn't have the resources to repair them or they don't have the resources to build new ones. The refineries are left dilapidated because people in high places wants it to be so, the people that are benefiting from fuel subsidy and importation of refined petroleum products will never allow the refineries to work. Nothing is working in the country, these sets of wicked people that have also not allowed us to have steady electricity power supply will will never be happy to see any meaningful things to work in Nigeria, because they are gaining from the dilapidations.

Dangote, refinary is an evidence that we have highly placed wicked individuals that doesn't want any refinary to function Nigeria, imagine having that magnitude of a refinary that can produce finished products that can serve the whole country but they wouldn't let it to function because they won't be able to import fuel again. The uptimal functioning of Dangote, refinary will make them not to import fuel into the country again and be getting richer so they'll rather have a country that will totally depend on importation to enrich themselves.
