I don’t think it’s wise for anybody to publicly announce on the forum what is the most Bitcoin they ever owned. Most people here are trustworthy but if you start declaring large numbers you could become a target for hackers & scammers. No offence intended but it’s a good idea to keep some details private here.

I totally agree with you.

It's about privacy firstly.

Secondly but most importantly, it's about security too. Security here relates to your life, Bitcointalk account, and your bitcoin. Disclosing that you are rich, owning many bitcoins, will make you into a dangerous risk of phishing PMs, attacks and so on.

Based on privacy considerations, I think it is not good for me to say how many Bitcoins I have ever owned because it could invite something that is not good for me and others when the largest number of Bitcoins I have ever owned.
I've been really worried about hacking attempts lately. If someone says as OP asked, I don't really believe that's the true story.

In 2014 when bitcoin price was low as $400 each coin I owned 3.1 btc in that time, I wait until end of the year and use them to buy a car, it was my worst move in life, I should hold and buy a helicopter, lol.

But I'm not a holder, always when I get btc I sell them, I like the idea of making money online and switch it to cash.

I bought my first BTC 5 years ago, and I still haven't sold it. I wouldn't say how much I have, but I'm still far from having a full coin.

This is a private information that I think will not be relevant to anybody. There is need to keep your Bitcoin holding private because the risks outweigh the ego that might come out of claiming to be a whale. On the security aspect, it becomes extremely dangerous making ones Bitcoin public because in some neighborhood, you can easily become a target and that is not a good situation to be in. Since Bitcoin is designed with privacy in mind, the right thing to do is to keep things private as it regard to Bitcoin investment.

I’m not a current big hodler, just a former hodler.

Actually, I never went too big on Bitcoin myself. Though, I dabbled a little back in 2017, around that time I bought bitcoin. I think I only bought 0.01 around then.

To be honest, the reason for selling was I got spooked by a price dip and needed the money for something else. Looking back, it's tough to say for sure if I regret it. There have definitely been some wild ups and downs! But, I'm happy with how things turned out.

I wouldn't share my private information with others. I'm sure many other people don't like that. Especially in forums, which is the best place for hackers.

But the first time I bought Bitcoin was just to bet on an online site. LOL

I started buying when I registered here. In fact I was interested in mining and altcoins before I was interested in bitcoin so in early 2015 I was already doing research and trying to buy some alts, but my first bitcoin purchases were in late 2015.

Some people are afraid of sharing this, but I'm not. The fact that I once had a certain amount of bitcoin doesn't mean anything. That was in 2016 and I had almost 30 at some point. I went back and forth from there, made some mistakes, but that's part of a learning process. What is important is where you end up and I feel like I made the right choice in the end to convert altcoins that I had into bitcoin and become a hodler.

Even without a detailed and candid confession about how much bitcoin owned, hackers can easily figure out which accounts to target as a potential attack vector. Users who joined the forum in the early stages (back when bitcoin cost mere pennies) could have access to readily available btc in large quantities. Attackers just need to look at the user’s creation date in their profile. But on the other hand, how many bitcoin there were doesn't mean that the user still has the same amount (or a similar amount) of bitcoin. BTC may have been sold and lost over the years.

Since I accumulate bitcoins for the long term and put them regularly into my cold wallet. Since then I haven't sold it at all. Except for a few that I collected on the Exchange which I then didn't put in my cold wallet. Because there was a certain need that made me have to sell it at that time. I don't have much experience in this industry. So there is no interesting story from me. So I might just wait and read replies from other people on the topic you created OP. And it looks like it would be interesting if there were old holders who started telling stories here about their experiences while holding bitcoin. What's clear is that I don't have a lot of bitcoin. because I just like to accumulate slowly and little by little with very cold money and don't rush in doing it.

Actually I am curious about those who have managed to hold bitcoin for more than 10 years. Are they really holding it consciously or are they just forgetting about it and starting to think back to the moment or the moment they saw bitcoin start to rise? Looks like it would be interesting if there were users like that here. And I'm sure it definitely exists. Because after all the initial holders must have come from the people who joined the earliest in this forum.

Publicly stating how much Bitcoin you have is still so much worse than being the research subject of a Hacker based on Bitcoin Talk Account creation date.  I really do believe Finances should be a Private thing, unless you want all sorts of weird people looking after your Wealth.

For some of us, even the Username can be a give away.  You see someone who is from a specific country with a not so usual Username, you give it a search through Google or Duck Duck Go choosing to prioritize local results and you may end up finding so much more information than you thought.  Added together, it may become easy to find out where the guy lives.

I have never actually owned more bitcoins than I do now. I admit, Im a bit late to the whole Bitcoin party but when I finally decided to dive in, I planned to hold long term.  I have been buying up slowly for a couple years and dang its been a wild trip.  I saw the price blast off to the moon and then crash back down, but I believe in playing the long game here and  its definitely been one heck of an adventure so far with all the ups and downs! I still got a lot to learn but Im feeling good about my bitcoin stash and excited to see where this crazy ride takes me.

I would also love to hear other people's stories about their bitcoin journey - the good, the bad, and the ugly - but I also agree that no one should disclose their portfolio details publicly for security reasons. Better safe than sorry.
