I thought I'd start a thread to see about why and why not people are interested in the Olympics.

It seems as though in terms of gambling at least the interest is very much reduced compared to the regular sports season.
I'd venture to guess that part of this is because of very restrictive FIFA rules who don't make it mandatory for trams to send their players and also putting an age limit for who participates in soccer teams. This is to allow for the world cup not being comparable to Olympic soccer.

Olympic rules for basketball are also not the same as in the NBA. For instance the 3 second defence violation rule makes Olympic basketball more technical and it doesn't put as much of a show on. USA players might be the best of the world but have a hard time adapting.
Here is a great article about this if you want to learn something today: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5640391/2024/07/16/team-usa-basketball-fiba-rules-lebron-james-joel-embiid/

In any case, let's have a chat on if you'll be betting on the Olympics and where, or why not!

There is already a THREAD for the Olympics which the OP of that thread has already posted will be used for predictions and such. While your topic is a little different I suppose, it seems like basically the same topic IMO.

It seems as though in terms of gambling at least the interest is very much reduced compared to the regular sports season.

Because the roster in Olympics each country always varies that’s why it’s very hard to do a consistent discussion especially on prematch since we don’t have enough data for speculation.

Olympics discussion will be peak if most of the sports categories are in the middle to final phase already because most of the team already show what they are capable unlike regular sports season which we knew the previous data of team/players because they are regular player.

I think there are multiple reasons that explain the reluctance to follow the 2024 edition of the European Games. I may not be wrong in asserting that the real influential reasons are primarily political reasons:

- The war in Ukraine has entered its third year, and it does not seem that it will reach a solution soon. Despite the acceptance of a number of Russian and Belarusian players to participate in the Olympics, the International Olympic Committee announced that Russian and Belarusian athletes will not participate in the mission parade ceremonies during the opening ceremony of the Olympics, and that the players will nominate individually and will not represent their countries. This measure destroys the entire concept of the Olympics, according to Russian political representatives.
- The political crisis that broke out shortly before the start of the Olympics, when the French President (France, the tournament organizer) decided to dissolve Parliament and organize premature parliamentary elections. France is busy with its political conflicts, and it does not seem that the Olympics will be a priority after the leftist parties (which excelled in the elections) insisted on dissolving the government, even though Macron had rejected her resignation and asked her to conduct executions until the Olympics ended.
- We can add the European elections that led to the victory of the right, and the various social crises that this causes, which will make it difficult for people to enjoy this session of the Olympics.

Right, I'm the same way. I love watching the Olympics across almost all the sports disciplines. But for some reason, I've never really been drawn to betting on them.

I have no idea why honestly.

In any case, let's have a chat on if you'll be betting on the Olympics and where, or why not!

The composition of football teams is limited not so that the World Cup or European Championship will be more spectacular, but because at the Olympics there is or was a rule according to which professionals cannot take part in the Olympic Games. Sometimes exceptions are made for football players or other sports players. I remember that they wanted to allow Vladimir Klitschko to participate in the Olympics, but obviously nothing came of it.
In answer to your question, I will say that most likely the Olympic Games are not so popular among bookmakers and the audience because they are held every four years. The second reason is that there are very few famous athletes at the Olympics, there are some, but not many of them, so you don’t know who to bet on.

I didn’t consider this kind of perspective since I’m residing in asian country which the war between Ukraine and Russia is not being discussed anymore.

But considering that only few country directly involves then I don’t see it will affect that much on the overall viewership of Olympics since it’s a global event. IIRC Olympics was designed to make all the country united through sports that’s why some country even with dispute participates on Olympics.

Your input is totally valid for those gambler that is affected or near the war because they can still feel the intensity of tension going on that makes them uninterested to watch the Olympics.

https://www.politico.eu/article/politics-paris-2024-olympics-france-ukraine-israel-hamas/
In this report published by Politico several months ago, it was mentioned that there are political problems looming on the horizon for the organizers of the Olympic Games: the war between Russia and Ukraine, Israel’s war on the Gaza Strip, the dispute over public transportation, terrorism, homelessness, and even booksellers in Seine. Other reports state that the Olympics has never been devoid of geopolitical tensions, given that it brings together rivals (enemies as well).

Like you, I am not a European citizen, but I can anticipate the tense climate in which the Olympics will be held, especially after the sudden political changes in France, which a number of experts confirm that Macron did not choose the timing well because of the disruptions this may cause to the organization of the Games. Also, excluding Russian and Belarusian players from representing their countries and considering them as independent players will increase the depth of the crisis between the competing countries, while the Olympics are supposed to help break out of the state of estrangement between the conflicting parties.
