it's most likely a scam, depositing money in order to withdraw your balance is very suspicious and it is usually what scammers use to lure unsuspecting people to deposit money on their scam site.

also, I checked their domain on whois.com and it looks like the domain has only been registered for almost 2 months which makes the website a lot more suspicious. my suggestion is to not deposit any money on the "exchange site" and just forget about the "money" that is supposedly on your account on that website.

That is a common scam. Do not send anything to the scammers. You will never receive any payment. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advance-fee_scam

There is no legitimate reason for your client to require that you be paid through any third-party. There is no legitimate reason to require you to send crypto in order to be paid. There is no legitimate reason for any exchange to "verify the external address" by sending crypto to them.

i have the payment in my account but i cant withdraw unless i verify the external addres (in this case my binance or metamask or any external wallet address) and to verify the external wallet address i need to make a diposit from my external adress to this exchange platform
It is a scam. Any platform that requires you to make a deposit in order to withdraw your funds is most likely a scam. If the issue here was really about verifying your wallet, they could have requested for a signed message. It just doesn’t make any sense. Scammers use this tactic to deceive people that have no idea how bitcoin works. Be more careful next time when dealing with people online, maybe ask for a upfront payment or use a verified escrow when dealing with strangers.

It's an obvious scam look at the strategy he is forcing you to deposit any amount just to verify that you own the crypto from the account.
Another thing you would notice is why your client forcing you to go into that exchange instead of sending the crypto directly to your own wallet? That's suspicious.

The bad thing is if you have already done the job they ask and delivered the finished product you've already been scammed and they want to ask more.

If I were you contact Upwork about your client being a scammer they might be able to help you get the payment from the scammer. If you are dealing with a scammer outside Upwork I don't know if Upwork can help you if not try to ask for the client's information and report it as a scammer.

I found the same question on Reddit [1], and i thought it was you because of the user name similarity. After hearing your story and seeing the website, i feel that this is a planned new scam model, he/she targets people in this industry through freelance sites. For the website, in the footer they claim that they have been available since 2020, but i don't see any traces of them on social media, don't have an X account & don't have a Telegram channel.

You said that you're working with him through Upwork and by that means, you are in the clause of upwork's workers protection and no payment shall happen outside the platform. Upon finding out that you did it with your client, Upwork might suspend or ban your account as well as that scammer.

Did someone ask to make a payment outside Upwork?

Getting paid outside Upwork violates our Terms of Service and can result in permanent loss of your account if you participate. You can keep your account safe by reporting this behavior.

And that scammer is trying to scam you and at the same time pushing your account to get banned.

Hi @OP I'm also a digital artist, aside from fee to unlock account or reward scam, you also shouldn't fall to phishing link scam too. This happen when you want to receive the money in PayPal, the scammer will say he already sent the money and it deduct his balance, he will ask you to click the link in your email which is a fake mail, not from PayPal. It's actually a phishing, if you input your Paypal account's password, the scammer will empty your funds.

Make sure you're only use popular exchange (listed on CMC or Coingecko) and non custodial wallet.

hi guys so im an artist i usually work as freelance illustrator in upwork an i just got paid in crypto by a a client and he specify in the contract to get paid in a exchage platform called kaspachain.com and now i have the payment in my account but i cant withdraw unless i verify the external addres

From all indication, it's definitely a scam but why would you agree to such contract in the first place? I think one is supposed to understand the content and shortcomings of the contract before agreeing to the deal.

No any reputable exchange will ask you to deposit before you could be allowed to withdraw your assets. I hope it's not a huge deal because there's absolutely nothing you can do now other than letting it go.

This is one of the common ways scammers operate on freelancer platforms like Upwork. He does not want the Upwork platform to be the intermediary and guarantor between you and him but aims to lure you off the platform to scam you and steal your deposits made in this new suspicious exchange.

I hope you did not follow what he asked of you and avoided this unknown Kaspachain exchange, which has no reviews in the search engine or sufficient information about who runs it. Now, you only need to open this person’s profile on Upwork and click "Report this user." I also recommend that you read this article [How to Identify and Report Scams on Upwork], where you will find many important tips to avoid falling victim to scams, including not communicating outside of Upwork or accepting payments outside the platform.

There is a high likelihood that the cryptocurrency exchange in question is a hoax because it claims to be US MSB licensed but never provides any proof or reliable information about the team involved, and there are numerous red flags concerning the exchange. Furthermore, any new CEX that provides a high-risk and questionable service is likely a scam CEX.
