Live on a campus with free electricity. Standard outlets available. Budget is $2000-3000. Any advice on what rig to buy and what to mine? I’ve watched the videos but hard to sort through it all with the variable of free electricity. Has anyone purchased from Yesmining.io? My friend gave me a recommendation.

The campus isn't even yours, free electricity you say? Things could turn ugly for you so don't do it.

Someone somewhere is constantly paying for that electricity, to me this is stealing of electricity unless you contribute to the electricity bills.

I've tried it before and I would highly recommend against it. The returns from mining isn't great: https://www.asicminervalue.com/ and those that are relatively easy to purchase are quite old and expensive. Generally, ROI would take very long and combined with the hassle of managing it would be a nightmare.

Something that you should consider is also if you're able to live with the noise. Having anything that mines would be equivalent to having a hairdryer running 24/7 and with the unbearable heat. If you want to purchase old hardware, then you can try looking at the Computer Hardware section in the Goods section. Look for those with decent trust, I haven't had sufficient experience with actual websites and stores.

Mining is headache and you need not only electricity supply. Even you have free electricity, there are other elements for your mining operation like set up techniques, maintenance process and more than that, you will need a long time of mining to collect bitcoin.

Free electricity on a campus and you want to use it for mining, there are other things you have to care of like there are other things that can potentially break rules of the campus.

You must know Bitcoin miners capitulate from mining in hard times and as your small budget, you are very small miner in the ocean, with bigger risk and less strength against volatile changes in Bitcoin network hashrate, difficulty and price.

Use your $2,000 or $3,000 to buy Bitcoin or Ethereumm, and hold it.

I thought when you said that you want to mine with free electricity that you get from renewable energy, but you get that from your campus? aren't you shameless? The electricity doesn't even belong to you and what you did was basically an abuse of campus facilities. The campus provides free electricity for you to charge your laptop, cellphone, or for a small electric stove. If you use it for mining, I'm sure your campus will immediately know about it and will check with the students - especially since the mining equipment is not quiet, but quite noisy.

It could definitely get the OP in trouble, and besides, it's very easy to hear a noisy miner from far away, because that's just how they are.

Also some food for thought:

- What if the weather becomes hot?
- What if you have nowhere to ventilate the miner? (moving the heat waste out I mean)?
- What if someone living next door complains about all the heat?

It's not really "free mining" - there is more hassle and stress than there is reward.

Op, if you live on campus, and you're paying for month rent and not for utilities, it doesn't mean you won't get in trouble if you start mining. I've lived on campus and utilities were included into a flat rate for rent, but I've never thought of trying to overconsume energy just because I'm not paying for it. Have you read the terms of living there and leasing that property? There is likely something there about utilities being for personal use. It would just be a shame if you spend a lot of money to buy mining equipment, and then it turns out you can't use it there or have to pay extra in case you do.

I will consider hosting in Yesmining.
This is the first time I've heard that website for purchasing miners. I am skeptic about the reviews that it shows on trustpilot.
https://www.trustpilot.com/review/yesmining.io

Most of the reviews there were done just this year. If OP wants to start mining and he's got a budget, you should purchase it from direct suppliers and manufacturers and the trusted ones. Unless you're lowkey shilling here that's website, then that's it.

I hope that the OP interest in mining goes beyond leveraging on the free electricity, it takes more than free electric energy to be a successful miner. Although I'm not very knowledgeable about mining but I believe with the information that I have about it, it is very difficult for a solo miner to be profitable, miners who are in a mining pool tends to make more profits collectively. Maybe he can consider joining a mining group instead of relying on free electricity that he's not paying for, if he's caught, he'll loose much more than paying for electricity consumption.

Thanks for the advice, I will consider more aspects before making the decide. As my friend has purchased 4 KS5L from this site and has nice reviews on it, I will prioritise it as well. Thanks again.

You need to have permission for that, or you’ll be reported as an electrical thief by the campus authorities. If you get caught using electrical resources without permission, the consequences can be pretty serious. The campus has strict rules about using its facilities and resources. Not only could you face disciplinary action, but your reputation could also be damaged. Everyone on campus is expected to act honestly and responsibly toward the provided goods and facilities. So, before you decide to take a risky step, think the situation through carefully. It’s better to ask for permission or look for a legitimate alternative than to deal with unwanted repercussions. Remember, small actions can have a big impact.

It's already 2024, single mining is no longer profitable. And your budget won't even buy one mining hardware,

https://shop.bitmain.com/

You might be better if you will just invest your money in Bitcoin and then hold, or maybe you are still a student and so obviously put that money of yours into education.

If you are planning to mine altcoins, maybe you can go here and check everything https://whattomine.com/.

But still though, you might attract attention due to noises and obviously, the campus management will have to check everything when they noticed that there is a spike on their next electricity bill.

It's all fine until the accountant on your campus find a strange electricity bills rise and either your friend or cleaner find your hardware, they would report you.

My advice isn't about which rigs you should buy and which coins you should mine, but my advice is ask the owner on your campus whether he allow you to use the campus electricity for X Watts in 24/7 or not, if he allow it then you will not have any problem.

Thanks for the advice, I will consider more aspects before making the decide. As my friend has purchased 4 KS5L from this site and has nice reviews on it, I will prioritise it as well. Thanks again.
Okay, good luck with your purchase and that's the best option is to buy to the reputable ones. Because it seems that no one has got an idea on the website that you've mentioned. Well, this is just me, and if I am enthusiastic with mining and about to start then I'd go on with the ones where people are buying their own rigs rather than one which is suggested to me by my friend. I'd apply the quote about "trust no one" in crypto.

Are you sure you still want to buy a miner on not well-known site even no one gives you a trusted reviews?
Trustpilot is not enough to say the site is legit because you can easily make a fake reviews on trustpilot.
And it seems someone mention this site weeks ago but all of them are deleted and considered spam which is really suspicious.

If you are going to buy a unit always make sure to buy on direct manufacturer or verified reseller or from trusted seller here on the forum unlike this site you mention.
If I were you if you want to buy KS5L I suggest buy directly from iceriver.io

Live on a campus with free electricity. Standard outlets available. Budget is $2000-3000. Any advice on what rig to buy and what to mine? I’ve watched the videos but hard to sort through it all with the variable of free electricity. Has anyone purchased from Yesmining.io? My friend gave me a recommendation.

Is there any in the world where there is free electricity? As far as my knowledge, I don't think there's gonna be a single place where electricity is given to for free. Since you mentioned that you are in a campus area then I am pretty sure the electricity supplied to you is being taken from your school utility bills.

Secondly, how sustainable or reliable will that be to tap from your hostel electricity. For the sake of consistency you seriously need a reliable, if possible, independent source of electricity to embark on your mining.

You better do, whenever there is an offer about something being free, there is often some policies which state that you cannot really abuse it or you will not get this privilege.

This is similar to what we see with casinos, in which you can receive free bonuses, but if you abuse their promotions then you will not be allowed to make a withdrawal or your account could be closed down, so if you were to try to use so much electricity, it is likely you will be charged for it and you may be forced to pay a huge electricity bill.
