Are there any forum members in Venezuela? What are things like right now?

I open this topic because of the elections going on today. I strongly doubt that the election will be free and fair, although there does seem to be strong opposition to Maudero, exceptionally so.

in downtown Charlotte, in the US, there is some kind of gathering in which people seem to be hoping to celebrate a win for Gonzalez. There are many with Venezuelan flags here.

I am from Venezuela.
There is some insight I could offer, though the topic if too wide for me to summary in a single post. I am keeping my expectations very low, as my personal perception is this elections are not going to be fair or free. Public workers are already being pushed to vote in favor of the government, so they can keep their jobs.
In general, this government is controlled by a bunch of crooks, so they would do anything to alter the results, in the case they do not allow them to continue to steal and supress the people of the country for another six years. If anyone has some questions about this thing going on, I could try to answers in an unbiased way, as much as it is possible for me.

I am also from Venezuela, and it is very discouraging that a group of criminals are able to have more than 21 million people under their control, when the president does not even have a profession, he only relies on his thugs, where I live they have already killed 2 people (maybe more), and on the border with Colombia as well, so it is not possible to free a country when in the Capital they are not able to go out on the street and are afraid of corrupt military men who sell themselves and who have no kind of empathy or ethics, so you have an idea Edmundo has a total of 70% in his favor and Maduro 30%, it is an electoral beating, but as in the CNE there are people who have been in favor of the regime, well they manipulated it and gave him a disgusting 51%, so it is infuriating.

If Maria Corina does not send people to the streets to fight, these thugs and these people who are in power will turn Venezuela into Cuba, where it will not be 6 more years, it will be 30 more years, everyone expects the intervention of the international community, and they will not achieve anything, the U.S. and the world powers have their big problems, Venezuela at this moment is not a priority for absolutely anyone, besides the other countries are not going to get involved, and yes, there can be many dead if you go out to the streets, but unfortunately sometimes diplomacy is useless and you have to resort to that type of solution, I think it has more honorability, but they are still going to kill people with a disguised dictatorship, those are some of the reasons why I detest politics, because it is too dirty and is capable of stealing opportunities from anyone, from our children and taking away all kinds of progress, where it is no longer useful to study or have professions when you cannot practice, where luckily if you have a car and you can be a taxi driver it is the best option, or if you are lucky to get by merchandise across the Colombian border where you have to pay a lot of money to entities such as police, military, guards, guerrillas is another option, an engineer, a doctor, someone who has studied a lot, there is no chance if they do not leave the country, I really had great hope, I am one of those who have not left the country, but if I see that my children are going to have a very bad education, then I have to think of a way out, where being an immigrant is not easy at all, but if people do not stand up now, everything will be completely lost.

It is very discouraging to see this country which once was wonderful and keep as one of the most democratic ones in the region going though such a situation, in which it is getting kept in darkness by some crooks and agents from Cuba and Russia...
I am not sure what else I could say, to be honest, though I am sure hope of millions is starting to slowly fade away, just because the incalculable amount of corruption one can find in this country. They have already proven not to be willing to give up power peacefully, it is disturbing someday an actual domestic confrontation will have to occur in order for these crooks to leave power.

According to some reports, Edmundo Gonzalez won the elections, but President Nicolas Maduro was fraudulently declared the winner by the electoral body without a full breakdown of the electoral results. I am sure Venzualians will be disappointed by the outcome of the elections. This was the same thing that happened in my country one year ago and I feel very cheated. The people massively voted for an opposition candidate, but a corrupt electoral officer rewrote the results and gave victory to the ruling party. Protests have broken in some parts of Venezia, but I doubt that this will change anything.

In the case of Iran, I think the electoral process is better than what we are seeing in Venezuela. The presidential election conducted this year in Iran was tightly contested, and it resulted in a run-off election. From my point of view the election results reflected the people's choice. The current election in Venezuela, from what I have read, is a total sham.

They have always had us fooled, for almost 25 years, with the same agenda, only now Maria Corina prepared herself 10 months in advance with her most trusted staff, that is why at each table in the country they took photos of the minutes, scanned them and sent them immediately to their control command, that is why they have the proof, it is said that planes came from Cuba, that is why the repression in the Capital is so enormous, because they are killing many people, do not be surprised to see numbers of many dead in the news, because the military are mostly in barracks without leaving, while the commanders do not give the order to go in favor of the people they cannot do much, that is why many people are in the streets, unfortunately they are people who are unarmed.

The trap is so big, that some urban cleaning workers found the minutes and votes thrown away, and quickly sent them to the networks, everything is very strong now, but I see signs of being able to achieve the objective.

They have cut off electricity in many states of the country, including mine, where I live in the state bordering Colombia, and the internet is very bad. The media are not broadcasting everything, perhaps out of fear of such great repression because they are killing people. Some journalists have been kidnapped.

For those who want to follow these events, I recommend that they look for the live broadcast on Youtube. Many Youtubers have been broadcasting much better than the TV channels.

It would be great if there could be support from other countries. At least the US has already spoken out, but there are countries that have not yet positioned themselves, perhaps because they receive large amounts of oil and resources that Maduro gives them for their silence.

They say that they have declared a curfew, but that is something that people are not going to pay attention to. Everyone thinks This is the only chance, they have to take risks and give absolutely everything.

In reality, Venezuela is a dollarized country, because our hyperinflation and the lost of faith on our own currency we have gone through a process which have made the United States Dollar the most important medium of exchange in this country. As a matter of fact, even state banks are offering services and accounts in USD along side with our national currency (which still gets slowly devaluated). So to me it does not make sense Venezuela would join BRICS in order to push for dethroning the United States dollar, while dollars are in free circulation in our economy.
It would make some sense if authorities here tried to replace dollars with Yuans, but they do not.
I don't expect Venezuela to effectively join BRICS in a long time.
