I am pretty sure there were no scrollbar at the right of the post before. The Show/Hide link text used to show the whole post. A patch from PowerGlove I am sure updated it.

It took me a while to understand what you are talking about. I even went to that post by JollyGood and put him on my ignore list just to see what exactly you mean. Don't worry JollyGood, you are off the list now.
BitcoinGirl.Club is right. If someone is on your ignore list, clicking the "Show/Hide" button allows you to see one line of text (or between two lines) only. Scrolling up and down doesn't really help much.

The suggestion is only for users you have ignored. But I wouldn't want to get rid of the quote button either.

The scroll was not there before, you had the option to see the whole post without scrolling by clicking the "Show/Hind" link. I think it is PowerGlove who fixed it and it's better now.

But now you can see the text by quoting it [then pressing the preview button]. When someone is in our ignore list and if the system can disable everything related to him, then I think it's even better. We don't need to see anything that is coming for a person who is annoying and disturbing for us.

I don't like it. I have seen that people sometimes reply to those on their ignore lists. They notice that a third person mentions them, so they decide to say something. If what you are proposing gets implemented, they wouldn't be able to do that without unignoring the person temporarily. Sure, it's just a click of a button, but why would you have to do it. If you don't want to quote and reply to someone you ignored, don't do it and it's case closed.

I haven't touched that code (and I can't think of anything I have touched that might have affected it indirectly). Maybe theymos changed something, but, more likely it's some kind of layout bug (I can't reproduce the behavior you're talking about on my end... In Tor Browser, on Linux, if I temporarily ignore JollyGood and then toggle "Show/Hide" on the example post you used, everything works the way I/you remember it working: without a scrollbar).

That's an odd request. I mean, the quote button only appears after you've clicked "Show/Hide" on the post in question. So... just don't do that.

More seriously, I get that some people want a weapons-grade ignore system (as in: "Please make sure that I never, ever see anything related to so-and-so."), and I guess as long as it's an option that isn't enabled by default, then I'm inclined to work on some kind of super-ignore feature at some point. Technically, what interests me more is making a new consolidated ignore feature that lets you specify users, boards, topics, and whatnot (which would solve a few problems at once, like the bad/confusing way the current ignore board feature works, and the lack of pagination on the ignored user list, etc.)

BTW, future requests like this should go in the dedicated topic. (I mean, this one was difficult for me to miss, because it had my name in the title, but, I do tend to skim read a lot of topics because of all the disingenuous/quota-filling posts that people tend to make; if you want to guarantee that I'll carefully read/consider a suggestion, then the best place to leave it is in the aforementioned thread.)

When has it not been like that here?  Lol.  I'd be all for making posts by an ignored member disappear instead of being greyed out, but I'd still like to see any posts that quoted something by that member and so forth.

No offense to BitcoinGirl.Club intended, but I also find it odd.  It's not as though the button being present is a huge distraction or an annoyance or something.  I doubt 99.99% of members here would ever have come up with a request like that, and you've got way more important stuff to work on, so my vote (such as it is) is to reject this suggestion out of hand.

I tried it again just now to see if I can still reproduce it. It looks like it's a browser-based bug. It still appears on Chrome. If you put someone on ignore and then click the Show/Hide button, you can only view one line of text at a time. If you do the same in Firefox, you see the whole post just fine. Something probably got messed up with one of the latest Chrome updates.

For what it is worth, I have had the OP on my ignore list for a very long time alongside a lot of other members. Most of the time I do not bother reading anything from those on my ignore list but occasionally when I read a post where a member has quoted someone I have on ignore, I might go back and look at some of their posts to get a bigger picture of the situation.

If I did do that, I would use the "show/hide" link but I have never encountered a up/down scroller.

Yes it is because it was added to the the website therefore it can be removed. But it might be useful for some users if they want to use a link in the locked🔐 thread and I have said it before. Since when the thread is locked, we can't repost or reply in that thread again but we can take a link or a coded text and use it as reference or edit it if it is useful for the person.

But if the developers want to remove it, they can buy it is also useful in the forum as I said.

I have read in meta where someone suggested that there should be a 'block' function, superior to 'ignore', which completely separates a user and someone they ignored.

This will help to not see an ignored user when on a thread they replied to, which still puts their profile right there where you can see it. I think removing their replies completely will affect numbering and the entire layouts, a reason it may not be implemented.

Ignore list isn't public, anyone using it really doesn't want to spy on that user.

I think you misunderstood the point of the OP and this thread. This isn't a suggestion to introduce a way to quote or not quote posts in closed threads. It's about the options available to you if you put someone on your ignore list. If you have someone on ignore, you can still quote and reply to their posts. OP would like that PowerGlove removes that feature.

Okay. I have gotten the message. Thanks for the explanation. I thought it is the quote button appearing when a thread is still locked. And if it is like that then I also support the Op because when you have ignore someone, the quote button should not be shown again. Once again thanks.

Ignore list isn't public, anyone using it really doesn't want to spy on that user.

Ignore list is not public, but hardly will you see anyone use it without announcing to the public.

Just noticed. I had to toggle it again to understand what you wrote there. I feel like there are a lot of things I still need to know about the feature of the forum or they are not as they were before and I need more time to familiar myself with all these new things LOL

I tried it again just now to see if I can still reproduce it. It looks like it's a browser-based bug. It still appears on Chrome. I guess you are browsing the forum with Chrome or a similar Chrome-based web browser. Switch to Firefox and you should see the whole post without the scrollbar. It works fine on my end. If it's still not working for you, then I don't know what the problem is.
