That is just what he means. You need Ton to make the transaction just like how it is with ether, binance coin, solana, polygon et cetera when you are using their network to transfer their token. Ton tokens transactions are cheap and you have nothing to be worried about if you send just little amount of Ton for it.

Perhaps Charles-Tim has told you, but I will also like to contribute to that. basically for transactions to go through one must have at list little to nothing in the balance with any other wallet for tx fees etc hence telegram wallet is not excluded so you're probably required to make a minimum deposit of tons to your wallet to be able to access your transaction properly.

You just need to fund your TON address with a little Ton native token in order to be able to make your token withdrawal. This time around, project owners don't want to pay for fee airdrop distribution, which is part of the reason why they ask for a wallet connection instead of just filling out your wallet, which they can't access.
 
First, you need to check how much of the TOn token how much of the TOn token is needed in order for you to complete that token claim. Because the last airdrop I claimed last week was almost 0.75 Ton,  which was worth about $5+ as of then, but it was worth it as I have sold the first phase of the token for more than $20+.

you always need the gas token to do whatever transaction there is but be careful though, make sure the airdrop you receive is truly legit, because there's possibility that some hacker trying to steal your money.

but if it's legit then you can just get some TON from exchange and send it to your wallet so that you can execute transaction, usually it's dirt cheap anyway since TON blockchain is known for its cheap fee and high TPS unless the project demand some TON of course.

Not all, but most of the mining tokens airdrops of recent, that's what they first demand, having Ton in your wallet before you can be able to claim their tokens sent to your Ton wallet. The Ton in your wallet will serve as gas fees for the claim of tokens. No Ton for the gas fees, the receiver won't be able to claim.

I see that method of theirs ''having Ton," as a way to cover the cost of sending millions of people who participated in the mining of their tokens with their phones.

Projects that have demanded Ton in wallet are: aqual protocol, and Pixelverse and the rest of them, I may not know of.

The cost is on the receiver. Imagine, on one airdrop alone, claimants numbering from hundreds of thousands to millions. I'm talking about one popular airdrop. The project cannot keep up with the costs of paying the fees, so they oblige you to connect your wallet and carry the fees.
So, if you're active on airdrops, be sure you have Ton. A friend who is very active on airdrops calculated the fees on Ton, and they amount to at least 3 tons.

I think that best way to handle those play to earn telegram games, it's better to keep afloat than soak all hope in the game thinking it can make rich. Some people are already asking if they can become rich with their earnings from those games, while someone in the post I saw today asked  about the best telegram play to earn game that he can make profit from.

DOGS airdrop doesn't require any withdrawal fee to receive the token. Currently, all what you need is install the DOGS bot in which you can see how much you accumulate as DOGS points.
However, there is another scam bot pretending to airdrop $3000 and will keep sending notifications even after you block it. i started receiving those bot notifications since i installed DOGS bot which claim to be the native telegram token and give Dog points airdrop for outstanding telegram users. The Dog token is already listed in the Bitget pre-market, and should be listed sooner in major exchanges.

I advice OP and all others not to connect their wallets to any third-part app

I don't know how TON blockchain works understand the scenes but if it's like most blockchains, then you'd definitely the native token of the network which in this case is TON in order to facilitate payment for the claim transaction. If the transaction is asking for a fee outside the regular transaction fee,  you shouldn't go ahead with it. I recently came across some threads on CT where some users of hamster kombat recount how the hamster kombat team took money from them in the name of "upgrades" and has since not delivered on their promises. It's a burst.

The project have clearly stated that you need TON in your wallet to be able to claim the airdrop tokens, so you have to fund your wallet with TON and give permission from your wallet to take on the transaction and TON will be charged from your account as transaction fees to claim the token with. Most of this airdrops, when it comes to claiming, you’ll have to deposit some money in the wallet you’ll be claiming the tokens to, so don’t be surprised when asked to pay some money to claim your tokens.

Yep, you're on the right track, never once has an airdrop program asked its participants to pay a fee, if they have to then it's almost certain that you're on a scam project.

Having $TON to receive and having $TON to do contract interactions are 2 different things, I think @OP didn't bring up the topic well & correctly. In the past there were also many airdrops on the Ethereum network that did something similar, adopters for Telegram airdrops now have hundreds of thousands or even millions of adopters, so it's not surprising they were forced to carry out that policy. Ok, I think we're clear here.

It may be intended to verify that you own TON and not a bot generating addresses. at the protocol level you do not need a native token to receive coins, but it may be written into the terms of the smart contract withdrawal conditions.

Anyway, just be careful now with airdrops because there are many other types of fraud from bots that resemble legitimate bots, fearing that when you fill TONS in your wallet and connect to the bot it will drain your funds so this is what you need to worry about.
If you suspect this airdrop then leave it.
