It's happening to me right now, France vs Brazil, women.

It must be a record, at least for amateur games, perhaps, but they gave 16 minutes of overtime, which is incredible in itself.

It does happen frecuently in the different elite leagues, and in the most recent case, Euro 2024, how many games were won after the 90th minute, I think it was 8... and boy did we lose and win with that extra time. Overtime

In most cases in the games where I see this lengthy added time the officials must have done their math before arriving at that added time. We as spectators are so glued  to the game that we don't take those time wasted incidents and moments on the pitch.

Although a few times, those lengthy added time are given to influence the result of the game to avoid going to extra half's.  

But for sure they do have effect on our bets. I can imagine a game a bettor predicted to end draw and then after playing 90mins draw only for one side to get a goal after a lengthy added time of about 7-13mins. WTF.

It is the tactics of some teams to delay and kill playing time when they play a game. Officials of the sport have done their calculations to know that due to these time-wasting tactics from teams, the overall playing time for games was affected, hence the reason behind some really abnormally long extra time for games.

But for sure they do have effect on our bets. I can imagine a game a bettor predicted to end draw and then after playing 90mins draw only for one side to get a goal after a lengthy added time of about 7-13mins. WTF.

I didn't watch the women's soccer match between France vs Brazil but with 16 minutes of extra time it was quite unusually long, was there so much time wasted during the match that the referee accumulated the time into extra time?

Someone who bet on Brazil might be a little worried about their bet because the extra time was so long with Brazil's goal coming in the 82nd minute.
For a bet on the French national team, maybe for them there is still hope that the betting team can win because 16 minutes is a long time of course.

There are many people saying that the french are trying to do everything in their power to push their athletes while they're hosting the Olympics. There is a purported lack of impartiality in decisions that can affect outcomes. The Greek fencer in the women's tournament was disqualified against her french opponent over what many called unfair referee decisions.

In football extra time is supposed to be based on how long the ball was out of play. Of course 18 minutes sounds absurd. Still though France seems to have lost which I'd say was kind of expected to say the least. France had a good run for what their team is I'd say.

Overall I'd say added time doesn't affect me that much because it's a necessary thing to keep teams from stalling. Although I feel in most cases added time is too little or teams stall on the added time. So sometimes I want more rather than less added time.

It is quite a relative thing, actually. Depends on whether one is losing or or already winning the bet which had been already placed.
It happened to me once, I wanted a match to be settled and end as soon as possible due to me being already in a winning position. Someone in the opposite case (being already in a losing position) would like as much overtime as possible, for obvios reasons.

If it is already frustrating to see some weird or unfair overtime without having a stake on one time, it is double while having money at risk.

I never see this happening before even though I came across it but not that often and upto 5 to 9 minutes extra I have recorded so far, but you talking about 16 minutes extra time looks so incredibly and unbelievable because if your team already winning and this +time is being added it gives you that fear that you gonna lose the match that is why sometimes most people do cash out because they don't want to witness the lost.

Extra time can be good or bad depending on the individual case. You will tend to hate the extra time when your favorite team is already winning or when the option you played is already in place and you wouldn't want anything to spoil it. On the other hand, when your selection has not worked, like your team is losing or playing a draw, you will love the extra time and wish the match never ends until things change in your favor.

I have seen that the introduction of the VAR makes extra time longer than before. This might be because of the pulses that happens when they want to check VAR, this is logical though. I have seen long extra times but I have not seen 16 minutes before.

I do get freaked out when I loose games like that, I have had a few losses a few times when the games I did placed a bet on later had an extra time added.

Most of the times, I just feel like the game should just end already and not wanting to continue with the game because I don't find it benefiting to me any longer at that point, when it had happened that I may loose the game, and most times it's ended that way sadly.

Because of how low scoring soccer is it happens all the time.  It is one of the main reasons why I don't bet soccer all that much.  I don't like betting on sports where there can be a tie.  American football technically there can be a tie but it's very rare.  Basketball and baseball are the other sports I bet and there is a definitive winner every game.  Losing in overtime is brutal no matter the sport but it's all part of it.

Yeah ... That's always the case. It could be a bit high when there's a huge time wasted on players, substitution and injuries... There' are major disagreements that would lead to the opposition stampeding over their competition, or injuries that have been sustained in the game and several minutes are wasted in a process - sometimes, even when the first 13 minutes have been wasted, it remains unresolved....

I haven't watched this match, but I think their analysis wouldn't be made to rob the other team - atleast not in the Olympics or the European qualifiers... away from that, it puts everyone's ticket on void when the team you staked on only secures a win in halftime.

I didn't watch the live match but after watching the footages on youTube, the extra time of 16 minutes + 2 minutes 48 secs and Var ignored a yellow card for an assault were very absurd.
4-6 minutes should be enough, because the match is running normally for 90 minutes. The ref seemed want to help France women to reach the final - match fixing failed

I also can't forget those extra minutes during the Euro 2024, it was always at least 5 minutes and sometimes even felt longer as I mostly have tickets on the matches to go under.

I've seen a few matches where they gave an extra 10-11 minutes, but 16 is a first for me, to milk that much time i'd assume the match was very defensive or sloppy with both sides not giving an inch.

Well, it is not over until it really is over, yh?

This statement is an oceans of words in the world of football, and it's very true that a football game is never over until the final whistle of the game is blown because just a minute is more than sufficient to change the entire outcome of the game either in the favour of our bets or against.

Despite having it made a negative impact on the games of some gamblers it has also in the other flip made other earn a win with their bets when they had actually lost hope that with the result of the game wasn't it wasn't ending in their favour and just at the blink of an eye when the final whistle is to be given your team scored. We saw those occurrence in the just concluded Euro 2024, for teams like England and even Germany too.

Overtime in any game is normal and already part of the factors we consider when analyzing the game. I mostly bet on basketball, and I'd be happy if the game goes into overtime and I bet on the over, as that would add another opportunity to win. But if I bet on the opposite side, of course, I would not like it. On the point spread, sometimes when I believe in the favorite and the game is close but eventually goes to overtime, again, that adds another opportunity to cover the spread.

When you're betting the over in a NFL or NBA game you're hoping if it's close that it goes to OT to give you a chance to hit. OT can work for and against you, they do have some betting markets where you can bet and not include or include if a game goes into overtime though.

If you don't want overtime affects your bets, you shouldn't bet on market that count the overtime too.

Moneyline and first half result aren't affected by overtime. Overtime can give benefit if you bet on high total score, goal scorer, etc that give a possibility you win your bet since having more time means increase the possibility.

recently, just few years ago there was a change in overtime made by FIFA since in all matches the time provided is more or less the effective time that has been lost during the match. In the past it wasn't this. I have never seen +5 minutes in any match with many interruptions of few seconds like goals or substitution.
Of course this change a lot on games... I don't think is something bad at all, but must be counted on while choosing the right bet.

The first thought that came to my mind about overtime was that you should bet on the draw. If that is the case, it affects the result of my bet. If you bet on the outcome or down the line, it would change the results and you would lose.

Those minutes are important, IMO, and they could be a game-changer for your bet.

Well it depends on which side of the game we have bet on. If our team is actually on the losing edge, we might be happy for those little extra time and hope that they grap this opportunity to do something incredible in just that short extra time. But then for someone whose team has struggled to place a single goal at the closing hours of the match, he definitely won't be Happy with the over time because his bet is at stake here. Juts like others have said, most times the extra times are as a result of delays during match hours so a little bit of extra time will be calculated by the ref to make the match end without possible claims of bias.
