Since the recent event of people having a hard time reading or deciphering certain private keys, I figure I would give coin makers the chance to share what their private keys will look like once people end up peeling someday.

Below is a sample of my keys, private keys in qr and text format and the bottom is the public key. Also for some of my coins I have added entire seed as well. The paper used is Terra water proof paper...you can read all about me testing it and others under water for over two years PLUS in the following thread   https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5296179.0

And yes the private keys below are loaded with Bitcoin!  SO go ahead and try to sweep!  Cheesy

ALPEN COIN

Key: QRcode
Printer: Inkjet
Paper: Series 1: standard paper
Series 2 and after: Special aqueous inkjet waterproof synthetic paper (120 gsm)

photo: Key Alpen Coin Serie 1

I did different tests similar to those of Krogoth with the waterproof and standard paper, and the QR code was readable.

Nevertheless, I could compare physical bitcoins to works of art or vintage wines. Provenance and preservation play an important role.

for any of the projects I have worked on, from doing DIY coins for people, to the Mojo coins I assisted with, the pepeflyer coins, my pokerchip sets, the amount of coins I have keyed approaches 1700-2000

The process I use is very simple.

I use an airgapped computer that has bitcoin core and the samr7 vanitygen program installed. This system is never online. It is updated with disposable usb drives that are used to install updates and move files to the airgapped system. The usb sticks never go from the airgapped system to an online system and are disposed of after one use. This is done via my fire pit. Periodically, I also replace the harddrive in the airgapped system disposing of the old one via the same burn pit.

I use an old printer that has no wifi or bluetooth capabilities - it is a laser printer and I print on Revlar paper.

I have used text for private keys, qr codes and many times used both text and qr code.

I do not save any files to the airgapped system. Keys are printed and locked in a safe in my office. If the keys are ever out and I leave the room or they leave my sight, they are disposed of and new keys are made.

If anyone ever has an issue with my coins - it will not be because someone is sweeping them. It will be a human error on my part.

Examples:

putting the wrong key on a coin (I have done this once that I know of - customer contacted me, I reimbursed them for the load)
I once put the QR codes backwards - with the private key facing out and the address facing in, when identified, generated new key and address and re-did the coin.

No one is free from making a mistake and there is a huge difference between making a mistake and being malicious when it comes to keys.

Keys should never be saved or stored where someone else can get them.

This is precisely the method I use.  A freshly loaded OS that has never connected to the internet, and the wifi drivers disabled (or disabled at the hardware level).  In addition, Samr7's vanitygen has been used for over 12 years and is likely holding billions of dollars worth of bitcoin.  The only thing that could compromise those keys would be a quantum attack or vulnerability in OpenSSL's random number generator.

There is a right way and a wrong way to do it.

Regarding this topic, it is too bad that TeeGUMES Canary Thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5290065.0) is no longer updated with working images.  That was such a great resource.  Maybe those pictures could be recovered somehow and all the info merged into this thread?

Hi all, great thread, thanks a lot!

Question, just thinking about it (No I do not make keys, but did help BG4 with his node.js code on the 2.0 release of his Papersafe software for the Bitcoin Bonds, so not a stranger to vanitygen etc) - How do you all wipe your drive/usb/whatever you create keys on? DBAN or something?

TryNinja wrote a script that will do that. TeeGUMES would have to run it.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5452662.0

Also if you hover over the broken images in that post (at least in firefox) you can see the imgur links:

The 1st few in the post you mentioned are

https://imgur.com/r9qVSq8

so the post can be re-recreated with some work.

BUT.....they are not really our images to use without takling to TeeGUMES 1st.

Thanks!

With Mycellium entropy I just reset it and it generates new keys. Not sure what you refer to wiping? I don't use any USB flash drives to transport my private keys ...I print all thru the offline printer

Hey I remember writing the first draft of that code for BG4.  It was sloppy but got the job done.

As far as wiping the drive, I prefer a sledgehammer  Cheesy   Low capacity drives are cheap, and it's very satisfying after making a batch of keys.

Lets talk about Papersafe " aka  BITCOIN SAVING BOND.  I lost 5,000 bit few months back . compromise NEGATIVE.   Undecided
this bills come unfunded, I funded with 5000 bit . I try to move it out . since this bill has a scratch off private key , NO F way to scratch i. it suppose to be easy jezzy scratch off.  try slowly using a dime, cent, key , other alternative. hologram scratch off toooo soft. I end up ripping the whole paper including private key . idk how to explain it on details , but it has to do with " GRAY SCRATCH OFF MATERIAL " /  it wont scratch like it suppose to , in order to reveal PK .  Undecided
