These campaigns always struck me as fun. I don't see anything wrong.

They were on the wrong board. It's not a "service" and should be in P&S or if it's just "fun" then in Off Topic, which is where they landed for now. Someone who doesn't want politics or religion or any of that shit on their BITCOIN forum should be able to avoid it by ignoring some boards and spamming Services with that garbage is not cool.

Unfortunately, what has been discussed for years has been confirmed, namely that few care what will happen to Bitcoin as a technology, but what will happen to Bitcoin only when it comes to price.

All right, you lost me a little there.  I hate politics and thus haven't been reading all the stuff that relates politics to bitcoin, but how would an election or even a new administration affect bitcoin's technology?  Am I understanding you correctly?  Because the way I see it, bitcoin=money (and a form of investment), and people absolutely should be caring about its price or any factors that might affect its price if they're invested in it.  A higher price vs. [pick your fiat currency] means greater purchasing power one way or another.

And, I might add, if any cryptocurrency is going to have mainstream adoption, people should not have to worry about what's under the hood except to the extent necessary, because most people suck at math and have eyes that would glaze over if confronted with a discussion of "the technology".  Nevertheless, they ought to be able to use bitcoin if they want to.  Hell, I didn't understand exactly what bitcoin was when I first started using faucets back in the day; I just had my curiosity piqued and thankfully one doesn't need a deep grasp of cryptography, mathematics, or blockchain tech in order to send and receive bitcoin.

If you ask the question does the forum need politics of course yes however if you should ask does the forum need so much politics I would take NO as the right answer. I really don't think bringing soo much politics related stuffs to the forum is necessary though it doesn't seem to be harmful. Of course politics discussion is important because of the effects it has on the crypto space and general economics.

On the other hand I really don't think that making signature campaigns for pre elected or election contest I participants is necessary. And if you ask me , it just doesn't seem like the right thing to be advertised on the forum. The forum is a cryptocurrency discussion place and not a place to take on political campaigns.

It seems to me that not a single day passes without a new discussion about Trump, even about his son's statements. I understand that someone is obsessed with politics, and with Trump, among other things, but does it have to be to this extent?
Ok, the elections are in the US, but certainly, this is not primarily a forum only for US people or maybe I'm wrong, I even think that they are in the minority here.
I understand that the US economy has a huge influence on the entire world economy, and cryptocurrencies are already part of the economy (due to the financial influence of institutional investors and even some countries), which allows for some connection between the US economy and bitcoin, but I believe that excessive discussion of current US politics is unnecessary on a forum dedicated to crytocurrencies.

One user has opened two voluntary signature campaigns, one for Trump and one for Kamala. I would say that this is the lowest point of this forum.
If it is a joke, it is very bad and someone without a sense of humour should not engage in it.
I wouldn't like to compare, but if signature campaigns dedicated to mixers are prohibited on the forum, then similar joke (or not) campaigns of politicians also have no place on the forum.

(Both campaigns should be moved to offtopic or politics & society, they certainly have no place in the services section where services are offered with payment in Bitcoin.)
In my opinion, this would be the right place to put these signature campaigns (with similar themes), and even better - make these signatures visible only in those relevant sections, like politics and off-topic.

These things have nothing to do with cryptocurrencies or Bitcoin. The fact that someone said a word or two about it (exclusively for personal benefit) does not mean that everyone should be obsessed with it.
It is so truly.

Banning mixers from the forum had a reason:
But this is not a darknet forum, and with mixers looking "grayer and grayer"
Discussing or even making fun of public figures is, as far as I know, allowed in the US.

Same with me, I saw it as fun, especially when it got to the payment side.

Payment? What payment? Fuck off!
But, the only wrong thing is the board the campaigns are located. Service board should be for serious business imo. However, nobody dies if they remain in the service board still. Let's treat as fun.

Wow had no idea that they made sig campaigns for each party lol I agree they have no place on this forum. It’s wild how Bitcoin could be the spectacle in a US election and garner so much attention from the space. It’s not bad to discuss these topics since they are relevant but we shouldn’t become obsessed and there should be a limited amount of threads regarding these topics allowed imo

It is difficult to explain what is beyond the senses. Smiley

This is just my subjective vision (which doesn't necessarily have to coincide with the opinion of those reading this post) of this situation, which can be voiced as "personally, I don't like these Trump\Kamala ssignature campaigns", because it don't carry any useful semantic load.

Banning mixers from the forum had a reason:
But this is not a darknet forum, and with mixers looking "grayer and grayer"
Discussing or even making fun of public figures is, as far as I know, allowed in the US.
These two phrases, when placed side by side, make me think that the US did influence the fate of the mixers on this forum. Smiley

Ignoring the shitshow that these elections will trigger over the few months left on this forum and others like Reddit and that you can't have a discussion about the economy without us politics coming up first I'm curious about one thing, but probably only Theymos knows this and most likely won't share it with us, but still
How many of the users on Bitcointalk are from the US?
Because I feel 99% of the people talking about the election here and how this and that will influence things would not even be able to vote!

Many people talking about the U.S election aren't doing so because they are going to vote. They are interested only because they believe that Donald Trump, the "messiah" of Bitcoin is going to get elected and when he does, the price is going to $1m. I don't know how Trump did it, but he now has a lot of bitcoiners believing in him more than they believe in the underlying Bitcoin network, unbelievable.

yep too much politics but i don't see this a problem. politics are everywhere there is even politics in this forum and we all can see it. people are just not too open to talk about it.

the election 2024 is much related to Bitcoin though. both parties i believe are already shifting sides and wants to support BTC. although we may not really believe its sincerity, they all wanted the BTC community.

Snowflakes think they can ignore politics forever. I am pretty surprised to see many bitcoiners believe that crap too. It is because when you become a bitcoin fan, you already made a political decision.

Bitcoin disrupted legacy finance, brought banks to heel, presidential nominees are trying to win the bitcoin crowd over...

Bitcoin became that big it actually has the power to affect world politics.

The whole world runs on politics and money is the fuel.

When I hear "Leave bitcoin out of politics bla bla bla" All I see a person who doesn't want to leave his/her comfort zone.

I thought it wouldn’t be fair if we only had a campaign for Trump. So I have created one for Kamala.

I think my campaigns brought some life to the forum. People have more reason to make posts now.

Don’t drive traffic away or we will lose precious sig camps.
Really good to see more activities in the forum, there is no doubting the fact that forum activities have really decline lately , but recently things are beginning to return back to normal gradually, so on the aspect and solidarity of forum traffic I will have to agree with your decision to bring in those campaigns.

I am not against any none paying signature campaign since the individuals participating in it is doing so at they own will and decisions, we have a good number of them before now and even after now more of similar signature campaign will come on board, election comes and goes is a seasonal something which time will pass again, so let enjoy analysing current events as relate to the election until pass the elections again.

I don't really know why politics has a way of making people see themselves as rivals and whenever they come talking about the same thing they know won't add much to their lives they take it too personal and is not that cool to me, is best to never get involved if it will cause a division between friends neighbors and so on. These guys like the Trump and his colleagues they don't care much about how we shield them with words (support), and it doesn't matter if we have thousands of political campaigns or threads on the Forum, after all is still part of our lives we must deal with it with knowledge for it not to cause unnecessary division between us but if we can't, I'd say let's avoid talking about it, support who you like but remember they (politicians) don't know you gave your support.

What I wanted to say is that all this madness about who will be the new president of the US in the context of Bitcoin is just an indication that most people see Bitcoin as something they want to profit from, while not showing the slightest interest in Bitcoin as a currency, and in fact, it doesn't matter what consequences such a (possible) influence of politics will have on the fate of BTC.

Maybe from your perspective as someone who lives in the US, it all doesn't look so bad, but when politics gets its fingers involved in something it shouldn't, then it can't be good for us ordinary people.

Yesterday I read that a mining pool in the US now tags its BTC as "Made in USA", and I wonder if this is just the beginning of something that will go to even greater extremes. Apparently, the policy promoted by Donald Do Not Trust is already bearing the first fruits.

Crypto mining firm Marathon Digital announced that it would label “Made in USA” to all Bitcoin blocks mined by the company in America. “MARA is Team USA, proudly declared in each American-made bitcoin block we mine,” it wrote on X.

Perhaps because there is no way that's going to happen? Thinking that bitcoin could become an alternative currency 10 years ago made sense but if you think about it today you are dreaming instead of observing what is happening.

Bitcoin is electronic cash. I accept it, you accept it. If you want it to be used more, start using it more Smiley

When I lookup the definition of a currency, Google tells me:
Quote
1. a system of money in general use in a particular country.
2. the fact or quality of being generally accepted or in use.
Here's my take:
1. Bitcoin is a currency in El Salvador.
2. Bitcoin is a currency on Bitcointalk.

These things have nothing to do with cryptocurrencies or Bitcoin. The fact that someone said a word or two about it (exclusively for personal benefit) does not mean that everyone should be obsessed with it.
I totally agree with you, I also saw the trump signature campaign but I left it because this is an international forum and no one can run a campaign of a single or of two political entities just because they are supporting BTC and the fun part is only by words haha. We should respect every person's choice and should not just advertise one political leader which might not be the choice of half of the members.

And tucking politics that much into BTC is needed I think because if more people won't be getting into this hype that the selection of one of the two candidates will make BTC go up then it won't go up, hype is necessary.

I know it's not the right thing to do because these political leaders can do things more centralized and make BTC and crypto lose their purpose of financial independence.

PS: The signature threads have been moved to an off-topic section. Good work on starting this topic.

Bitcoin is electronic cash.

On paper. It was created as electronic cash, but the actual use is far away from that.

I accept it, you accept it. If you want it to be used more, start using it more Smiley

Really? Well, I hadn't stopped to think about whether I 'accept' it, but if it's something I'm questioning, I don't think I accept it very much.

If you want it to be used more, start using it more Smiley

Actually, I don't care about other people using it more or not but on a personal level, I am going to use it less.

1. Bitcoin is a currency in El Salvador.

Just on paper.

Quote
To date, most Salvadorans ignore bitcoin. They worry about the cryptocurrency's volatility in a cash-based economy where many live hand-to-mouth.
Some 88% of Salvadorans did not use it in 2023, according to a survey by the University of Central America's public opinion institute. Just 1% of remittances were sent in bitcoin.

2. Bitcoin is a currency on Bitcointalk.

LMAO. A currency in a forum where more than 90% of the traffic is generated by signature campaigns, which pay in bitcoin, yes, but in its dollar countervalue, and where threads like these abound:

I didn't expect to see it went below 56k

Road to 100k?

In contrast, I don't see many threads where members comment on their experiences about using bitcoin to exchange it directly for goods and services, unless we include in 'using as currency' depositing the money you get paid in the casino campaign to deposit in the casino itself, and the like.
