http://bitcoinmedia.com/bitcoin-tv-episode-confirmedHoly shit, this is going to drive bitcoin forwards. I dislike the dumb stereotyping though of us technologists :/ Would be nice if they could tell a good story with a nice structure rather than falling back on retarded stereotypes. A good story with interesting characters. Who is more cool: some skinny geek nerd you always see in the movies or Julian FUCKING Assange who was an old school hacker and lover of unix.

Somehow I get the feeling this is going to bring FUD to a whole new level.
[Edit] OTOH any publicity is good publicity. I hope the real Satoshi can stay hidden after this spotlight.

Mainstream media is not your friend. I'm speaking from experience here.
I am not eager to be portrayed as a socially-inept criminal who gets off because he's technically not doing anything illegal but dang it there ought to be a law to put an end to those black market enabling, authority-undermining bitcoiners.

I hope this is a complete slam against Bitcoin. I hope they take all the ridiculous hyperbole and attempt to show Bitcoin as the currency used by the Axis of Evil. Then I want to see a Bitcoin episode on............................................. South Park!!!

CBS Press Release: http://www.cbspressexpress.com/cbs-entertainment/releases/view?id=30177“Bitcoin For Dummies” – Alicia defends a lawyer who hires the firm after the government arrests him for not revealing the name of an anonymous client: a mysterious computer programmer who illegally invented a new online currency, on “THE GOOD WIFE,” Sunday, Jan. 15 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television. Jason Biggs (“American Pie”) guest stars as Alicia’s latest client. Carrie Preston (“True Blood”) returns as Elsbeth Tascioni. Bitcoin: for dummies. Illegal invention. Exactly the spin expected from CBS corporation types. The company that bought CNet for $1.8 Billion dollars, so they could repackage open source software with malware. I'll have to speed up the writing on my own "For Dummies" book...

What's also interesting about this is that they are free to use the term 'Bitcoin' directly - they don;t have to invent a fake name, as no one owns the trademark or rights to this. They cannot be sued if they represent Bitcoin in a bad light. They cannot be accused of product placement. If they were dealing with twitter or facebook they would have to create a fake name and hope that the viewer realised who they were satirising, or modify their story and get permission from whichever company owned the name. It means that in the future any TV show that wants to build a story around money laundering, drugs, free economies, geek culture or whatever can immediately just use the word 'bitcoin'. Hopefully we'll see more examples of bitcoin popping up as a plot device (even negative uses are fine by me). I expect to see in used to launder $200million of mob money with the click of a button (despite the impossibility of this) - the Swiss Bank account trope is dead.
