Na for radio stations I d hear more of bitcoin meetups. The meetups is channeled on how peso go invest with them with a particular amounts and expect to get so so amount as profits in a space of 6-12 months.

With my level of experience in Bitcoin knowledge, I come know sae those kind meetups no be wetin peso need to attend to because that's not what Bitcoin investment be like. You cant tell peso to invest in Bitcoin and expect profits in a space of time, knowing how unpredictable the market be. Any peso wey d advice such, are in to scam people that believe Bitcoin is short term investment.

Na the stated reason above na em make I no fancy go for bitcoin meetups despite hearing about them on radio stations. Person no need to tell me wetin my spirit no go like hear of after i don gain much crypto knowledge for this forum

Have you ever attended a Bitcoin meetup in Nigeria? How was your experience? If you were to host your own event, what improvements would you make?

Additionally, do you feel the meetup was worthwhile, or did it seem like an opportunity for attendees to show off who has the largest bitcoin? Was the event intellectually stimulating, leaving you motivated to accumulate more Bitcoin and contribute to the growth of the  community, or did it fall short of your expectations, leaving you feeling frustrated and disappointed that you show have stayed at home or did something important rather than wasting you your time going there?

This post is inspired the topics in the Meetups board.
I haven't heard or attended any Bitcoin related meetups before but I would really love to attend one, if any user here plans on organizing any meetups it would really help me in terms of personal growth as I know it will really enhance my communication skill and improve my confidence while connecting with like minded individuals, learn from experts and spark new ideas and motivation. A face to face interaction could really help enhance physical and online relationship.

Meanwhile, I don't think anyone would want to discuss about how much Bitcoin they have in their possession.

I think any attendee who does this is making a very big mistake to say.   What is the point showing of bitcoin holdings in a public gathering of that nature when your safety and security is not guaranteed. In the first place was the gathering set up to show of bitcoin holdings? I believe no because if it was, you would not see anybody there to interact with as people would see it as a threat to their safety and would not turn up for the event.

Bitcoin meetups are for familiarity, onboarding of newbies and avenue to meet people who are bigger than you in the industry so you could get acquainted with them and also learn from them too. Businessmen display their projects looking for investors, organization who accepts bitcoin also avail themselves to  the community to letting them know they accept bitcoin for payment so they could gain  more customers.  All these are the benefits of such gathering and not showing off and any one who does than should know that he or she is putting him or herself at risk as their safety will not be guaranteed.

Any where way you go and them  the talk you into investing through them nah for person to just remove body because invariably that one don the look like ponzi scheme and at the end plenty story go arise about this and that say money don go. On a norm, bitcoin nah wetin person gat use him own hand invest by himself and take custody of him wallet without third-party having knowledge about it.

All these meet ups na activities way no actually make meaning to me, except say na with persons way I don know already and we just wan come together discuss the way forward and share our challenges we the face for the ecosystem. And not about meeting random strange people wey I no grab their real identity and history.

Yeah, I agree with you here. It seems very risky to show off your Bitcoin because you don't know the next person closer to you, or what he can do. To be on the safer side not attending any Bitcoin meetup is the safest idea. It is assumed that everyone attending has more or less Bitcoin in their portfolio. Speaking from the information I have heard online, how people are being forced to send their Bitcoin out of their wallets, and in the end, they get killed. I won't let myself fall victim to such a thing.  On a normal day, I don't dare tell anyone not even my parents that I hold Bitcoin. It's very risky IMO.

My coins are against socializing, not even a Bitcoin meetup can change that. Bitcoin meetups can also be done online if the reasons for it is what you mentioned earlier. Businesses that use Bitcoin for payment can set up an AMA or online space using their social media handles to make the announcement public. Interested folks would join. It does have to be physical.

I haven't yet attended a Bitcoin meetup, even though I know of such existing with the aim of bringing like minded enthusiast together and creating an environment for Bitcoin to thrive in the country.

My main concern has been that such kinds of meetup would only be restricted to a certain geographic location and anyone outside such locations has to either follow up online, totally prepare for the next meetup or attempt such a trip and be among those who traveled far and wide and even near to support the growing idea and technological innovation of cryptocurrency mostly Bitcoin in particular.

I think if Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies become regulated or if the exchanges agree to the governments term and conditions on being a regulated activity, the freedom to participate in such events would become easier because of the absence of fear of government interference and harassment.

There have been lots of stories online which I have come across while surfing the internet about attacks on bitcoin holders at their very own houses and most of the police report to such crime happens to trace the victims previous engagements to public gathering where they had been before the incident and some are possible eavesdrop into their conversations on their holdings and they happen to track them to their living residence and attack them. These are just what we see and hear on daily basis not to talk of when it happens to be a public gathering or functions that involves bitcoin holders meetup. I could tell you that it gonna be a risky engagement except the fact that it is strictly on invite. So in that case, any body coming is an invited guest and a known person that can not be suspicious to do or harm anybody.

Apart from that, all the bitcoin seminar and meetups I dey see na actually crypto trading/investment them won talk about or them won talk about altcoins or local crypto exchange. E go hard before you see who go pay for hall, security and entertainment for people to gather to discuss purely bitcoin. Them no get anything to gain for that kind meetup nai make we never see them plenty for the country.

Do u think people will attend if u organiz one bitcoin event in dis hardship ,because people are very cautious of their privacy dis days because such event, some people can take advantage of it to invite EFCC to make money from people dat will attend d event, I believe u no how naija EFCC use to work dis days and dey don't use to hear about bitcoiners anywhere in Nigeria, because nothing will stop dem not to  collect big amount of money from such gathering. Such event, wetin dem go teach people wey people like us never learn from  dis Ninja local board, I don't think there is something dat will make me to attend such event, and such event d organizer use to make money from those dat are coming to learn about bitcoin and cryptocurrency from d event.

First of all, i have never heard about bitcoin meetups in Nigeria before not to talk of attending and with the way the government is going about crypto related matters in the country requires people to be very careful about being too open about any crypto gathering, be it bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency.

But If I may ask, what would prompt a social Bitcoin meet up in the first place? Because I know that Bitcoin is not alt coin that users in coming together is to manipulate the crypto markets in evaluating their coin (s) as an avenue for marketing strategies or relevant promotional campaigns.

Having a bitcoin meetups or association do not mean that they are trying to advertise or publicize bitcoin, it's just a kind of uniting with other bitcoiners in different part of the country even though it's also a form of creating awareness about bitcoin but i don't think that's the main objective of holding a bitcoin meetup. Just a kind of identifying with other crypto enthusiasts within the country.

I've never been in one before nor heard of anything as such in Nigeria but I think it will be a very wonderful and powerful gathering if those who knows how it is organized can do that and we have such a meetup.

Yes I have attended seminars on Bitcoin and I must confess that it was good and enjoyable and the benefits but the problem is most of these companies organizing these seminars are mostly after money that people who have little or no knowledge of Bitcoin trading entails so at the end people complain and lose faith in Bitcoin trading because they lose , simply because of the lack of experience and mentorship that is missing

Some time we dey mix crypto and Bitcoin together despite their differences. Bitcoin na just one aspect of cryptocurrency and e no go blend to tagged a meet up "bitcoin meet up". Unless you want us here from bitcointalk.org to meet up and discuss about way forward here. Cryptocurrency meet up is the one I dey familiar with thou I never attend any official one despite several invites.

E no go hard to see sponsors for all that you mentioned because plenty people go dey ready to contribute their own quarter but security after the event go become the serious issue. The anchor/host and speakers during the program no go dey save again, they might become a target since our mentality here be say anybody wey dey into crypto hold better money. Moreover, we dey very disperse for this place and even if we choose to organize one, some people no go fit come because of far distance.

Have you ever attended a Bitcoin meetup in Nigeria? How was your experience? If you were to host your own event, what improvements would you make?

I take it that, when you Dey talk about Bitcoin meet up, you Dey refer to cryptocurrency on the whole because, I have had to pleasure myself with one of these meetups and it clearly didn’t meet my expectations.

Yes o, I go agree say eehh, there were some successful guys that even owned some of these little exchanges around and a host that have gone places and been involved with some of the cryptocurrency innovations within the nation but, they vibed like they were talking to a total newbie and wanted to get referrals as a means to building a portfolio.

Advising users to buy this and that altcoin from a particular platform with their referrer code and I felt disgusted and had to leave. I appreciated the motivation I got from few forks but, it wasn’t entirely worth spending a good time from my busy schedule.

The hosts dey always get their own agenda, either them won promote one Altcoin project or local exchange. Them no dey even get time to talk about bitcoin the way them supposed to. E dey belike say na those oriflame seminar you go cause na that kind pattern them dey operate.

I never attend bitcoin meetup for Nigeria before oh, and i don't even think i will be open to attending one; i dey take my privacy very seriously and i will not like so many people to identify me as a bitcoiner. Insecurity is at its peak in Nigeria, and kidnapping and all sorts of crime are rife, attending a bitcoin conference fit make you a target for $5 wrench attack.

That being said, bitcoin meetups no dey too make sense, people just dey use am advertise their services and also promote altcoins too, i no go like dey for that kind gathering.

Yes, it's probably not a good idea to doxx yourself anymore. In the last 2 months I don hear of over 5-10 IRL robberies of crypto people simply because people in real life know them to be involved in crypto and them dey do sell for themselves. That means person go need dey extremely careful in this part of the world as we get one of the most lawless activities going on for us than other countries. Imo, Bitcoin Meetups used to be good in the early days, not anymore now. That time e been be small movement but na global movement now

Waiting you they talk na true na because even me too I never really show myself for that kind gathering ooh because for me nothing way I like pass privacy, I no they like to expose to everyone waiting I they do because e they very risky but some people no they even reason am because them they always think say nobody go fit touch them, however if such meet up go even they e go make sense if them put am for zoom because that way person privacy go they more protected because the only people way go they on that zoom na bitcoineirs, so I think e go only make sense that way because we all no say this our country get as e be and something like that go fit bring government agency against the person because them go they reason say the person they do illegal thing.
