Why we should always update are computers? Windows and Linux needs updates
With all the hacking happening in the cloud and computers being compromise it is important the we update our computers especially if we have important files and application running.
Importance of updating our systems:

• While some people really don't care about the update we should always ensure that we have the latest security patch for our computers so we are safe from hackers that exploiting the holes in the system from old updates etc.
• Updating our software's also makes us safe from attacks from software's applications where they gain access through that and steals information
• Updating our antivirus also is necessary so that they were update in the latest threats

Note:
All of the above is very important but also is important to read the release notes for every update since sometimes it may harm our computers
making sure that everything will work fine after any updates is needed. besides you can choose what updates can be install both on Linux and windows
With ever evolving technology everything evolves same with the hackers way of attacking a system a single mistake will cause us everything therefore not only we update the system but also educated ourselves of what to do and what is not.
I Know that some members already know this but for some sometimes we forget how good this hackers are and how fast they will be able to paralyze our systems if we are careless.

Well...you're not updating your computer but the OS version though as time goes on there might be a need to upgrade device so as to update to the new OS version .
However at the end, not updating OS might alos contribute to the risk of having a security  breach but the major risk still lies on the way you engage and surf the Internet, if you don't take perfect measures  then there's still a high prob. of having a security breach.
It's also worth knowing that  Softwares also need updating  to meet up with their newer versions

I already assume that users have the latest windows or linux operating system since you will not be able to install updates and security features if you have an obsolete operating systems, like for example in linux operating systems they will only have security updates for systems that are still on their list and softwares are unable to run in sudo apt-get and will need to manually install via source which also have reminders and notes that its not updated.
for operating system which already in EOL or end of life just make sure to be always aware of what is going to be install or download, since antivirus on those system are also not updated

Windows is very shady and its latest versions force us to update mandatory. It's really hard to turn off automatic update on Windows. With previous Windows versions, we can turn it off easily. OPSEC people dislike Windows because of their bad policy on automatic update.

Linux is different than Windows in this update policy and it is more favorite by cryptocurrency users.

Update to a newest version is good but it must be done with freedom. Mandatory like Windows is bad and against basic human rights.

Op I understand that you are trying to explain the reason for software updates but you are not sending the correct message over to members here.
Firstly let me start by explaining why updates are even possible in the first place. Now all softwares, scripts or code, whether written by AI or by Human has vulnerabilitys and also little bug issues and even back doors.

After launch of a software or script, the creators often back test and debug the script or codes of the software in search of all these venerabilities. Now once a considerable amount has been noticed, they create a patch file to fix those script , errors or bugs.
It's these scripts that are released as updates from time to time.
Using an old version without update can be risky except the script or software is open source, and you the user is able to fix those bugs yourself.

That is to say that software updates don't make you safe rather they Only make you safer in the sense that they should have lesser vulnerabilities and bugs.

I can use the anti-malware that comes with the device but I do not buy anti-malware because they are a waste of money to those that know how to avoid malware. Some people will have the anti-malware and still some malware might still be able to get downloaded and installed or their device but maybe it is because the anti-malware is not updated, I do not know. Instead for people to read about how to avoid malware, they are reading about the best antivirus/anti-malware. It is your human right to use any OS, and any publisher of such systems has the right to set whatever conditions they want. These days we can read a notice about a critical vulnerability in the Windows OS, and if in some cases it is possible to turn off the automatic update in Windows, how many computers do you think would be exposed to a very serious risk? When that notification appeared, I checked my updates and saw that the security patch was already installed 7 days ago.

Not all security solutions are equally good, but even if they are, the human factor is always at play. Let's say you have a good AV that warns you that you've downloaded a potentially dangerous file, but despite that you ignore that warning and bypass the protection, thus infecting your computer. People are still the weakest link and the reason why such things happen.

the reason why they got infected sometimes are because of the users, those actors are using the emails with links to pretend to be a legit email putting something that looks legit but once they are click no matter how secured those systems or network once inside and drop that will spread to the network.

So you are referring to phishing attacks as the reason why companies suffer. I do not agree with your point as it is baseless and absurd in 2024 when every employee is trained to counter such attacks. See there is something known as a firewall installed on the servers of every company that is online. Hackers find vulnerability which in most cases is due to the firewall not being up to date and then they use this opportunity to deploy malware into the server. That malware when the hacker wants to activate gets active and then the rest is what we know will happen. Do some due research before coming up with an answer, it will help you in the future.

This is the only reason why I hesitate to install the latest updates on my devices.
Remember CrowdStrike ? It's a solid example why we should NOT always install the latest updates.
Sometimes the latest updates are faulty ones and make our lives miserable.
But this doesn't mean we should never install updates on our devices.
I believe the best way is to wait for a few days or weeks and then install the updates to stay protected.

Updating our computers and other gadgets to the latest version  when needed is very important to protect and increase our computers from bugs and security attack. But it doesn't end in  keeping up with regular updates because an individual can update and still have his computer attacked through his own carelessness by the kinds of links and sites we might have visited without knowing it to be a malicious one. So it does end with updating it also has to do with how you surf the internet with your computer.

Updating to newest version isn't always makes our devices secured because If I remember correctly, some updates are needed because the previous updates have bugs and issues that needed to be fixed that's why as I have explained that it is not always keeping our devices safe that's why many people doesn't like using windows because of that reason. If we look to the upper left of this forum, we could find "News: All versions of Windows are affected by a critical security bug; make sure you update.", I could understand that there is a vulnerability in the IPv6. Great one mate, yes I strongly believe we should update our application especially those that has to do with our finances, there are some updates which are meant to tackle the mistakes in the previous version and it's imperative to update as soon as possible.

But before updating your application ensure you have ensure what ever you updating is safe, always check others review on the application before hand.

Have you not read any news? do you really think that the malware is just going to infect the system no there are lots of things attach on it that will do to youre system like changing how the system works like making it a zombie, there is a process where it will be trigger on a sequence in the system, i have made my research, if you are just trying to prove a point try to search how malware works, when a malware infects youre system its not only one there are things embedded , clearly you don't know how malware works on a system, im sorry for my word but its facts.

This is what I also do , though it makes my gadget slower without the update at least I can have time to see what is the effect to others about the update and I will be one of the last to be infected once there is an issue .
