As in the title: How often do you use cryptocurrency (on chain, non-custodial) for payments.
If not so often or not at all, why do you think it will scale in the future and what will make you use it more often than today.
It's been so long since I've used any crypto but to be specific Bitcoin for payments too and online add-to-cart directly. More stores adopting it is what really has to happen for us to use it as much as possible on a day-to-day basis. Right now, we're mostly using it for trading and holding our wealth through it but of course, its main purpose is to become an alternative payment for fiat which we do love to do but for me, not for Bitcoin but with altcoins.

I am using cryptocurrency at least once a week for various online services, simply because it's more convenient and also more private, cheaper and faster than using regular FIAT options.
We need more third-party solutions for this so that they'll be the ones converting our crypto payments instead of myself converting it first into fiat and then using it for payment. Not sure if that's considered because if it does, I'm doing it weekly as well.

I use it every day, and I live in Spain; you just got to find a crypto card provider and then deposit load your card with Bitcoin. You pay everywhere you want, buy things online, connect it to Apple Pay even, and spend it in restaurants, supermarkets, or whatever you need. I have used plasbit euro virtual card for years and I have been practically off the grid since 2020. It's 2024 bro, you can live on Bitcoin and nobody will even know..

I said: (on chain, non-custodial) - You are NOT using Bitcoin  Wink You think you are off the grid but actually using FIAT like everyone else while paying much more fees in the process  Grin

That's why I mentioned using it to load my crypto card, which I use for everyday spending. But you responded with 'I meant on-chain, not fiat' 😕.

The whole point of Bitcoin is to exchange it for fiat to use in real life. if you and many more 'Hodlers' only see it as an investment or wait to "only pay in Bitcoin directly". If everyone just keeps waiting and holding, businesses won't accept Bitcoin because no one's spending it. You need to use it, crypto cards, prepaid cards, exchanging it for fiat, whatever. This way, you contribute to its adoption and circulation rather than just hold it and wait for mass adoption.

Again, you are NOT using Bitcoin - You are selling it and using FIAT.

Do not advertise gambling, it's a cancer.

Not oftentimes. Because first and foremost, crypto for me is never meant to be spend but will buy even more to add more on my portfolio. Second, it's never accepted as a payment in my own place, so most likely I'll stick to fiat for payment and crypto particularly bitcoin remains my biggest investment. But maybe in the future where crypto payment is already available, I've no doubt but will also use it as a legal tender knowing its originally designed as a currency.

Similarly, I couldn't find any stores that accept crypto payments and I don't even intend to use it for my daily payments if it is legal in my country. Due to the volatility of cryptocurrencies, it is more suitable for investment than as a means of payment. Also, transaction fees are a drawback that makes me not want to use them, especially bitcoin. Meanwhile, I don't have that problem with fiat.

Also, people always talk about privacy, no one wants to reveal themselves as bitcoin investors because that would put us in danger. So is using cryptocurrency for everyday payments dangerous for us?

If you have substantial amount of cryptocurrency and vendor is able to link your hot-wallet to your cold-wallet (which is very easy in Bitcoin), then yes - it's very dangerous.
You could be a target in any country but in some countries like Brazil/Mexico etc it's a death certificate.

Well the answer is zero times, because I live in a country where bitcoin use is difficult due to lack of merchants accepting bitcoin. The number is increasing in many parts of the world and it will catch up but not at present. There is a huge tax on trading crypto and a lot of related problems such that the population here is staying as little in crypto as possible.

I do buy gift cards once a month to get a part of the groceries, but I guess that does not count in what the OP has asked for.

It would be fun to see the small business owners having bitcoin based Point of sale machines and people paying through them. But the bank here has made sure digital fiat currency becomes way more popular and that is being adopted in foreign countries now.

You pay crypto weekly? Nice. Its the future, private, quick.

I really believe in cryptocurrencies,, the blockchain changes everything. For daily use, though, at least in my case, it is not quite convenient. Yes, it has promise, but right now in many areas its just not as affordable or useful as good old-fashioned cash. Transactions with Bitcoin? Expensive. Fiat? Still the king in my neighbor. Its more about investment than getting your morning coffee until bitcoin can match on fees and simplicity of use.

Bitcoin is like digital gold, a store of value, not something you're using to buy groceries. Thats the reality we live with, folks. But hey, I see the potential and I am a believer. We will get there, but it will take time, creativity, and a great number of innovative people cooperating.

As in the title: How often do you use cryptocurrency (on chain, non-custodial) for payments.
Cryptocurrency could be used more often if there were more services (currently the number of which can be counted on the fingers of one hand) that accept payments in cryptocurrencies.

If not so often or not at all, why do you think it will scale in the future and what will make you use it more often than today.
I am generally inclined to believe that payment for services in cryptocurrencies will not scale (unless we are talking about CBDC).

The only thing that can force people to use cryptcurrencies (CBDC) in the future is pressure from governments (central banks) and a complete rejection of cash (digital) money.

I am using cryptocurrency at least once a week for various online services, simply because it's more convenient and also more private, cheaper and faster than using regular FIAT options.
Modern online banking is not much inferior to cryptocurrencies in these parameters (depending on your country of residence and the development of digital banking).

Modern online banking is not much inferior to cryptocurrencies in these parameters (depending on your country of residence and the development of digital banking).

Regular banking system does not work in weekends and holidays when it comes to wire transfers, this is where cryptocurrency is really shining for me.
I can send "whatever" amount anywhere in the world within seconds (0-conf) or within minutes with confirmations for close to nothing.
FIAT bank if it is not a weekend, takes hours and sometimes days depending from where to where you are sending.

Privacy - This depends on which cryptocurrency you are using, Bitcoin is fully transparent and using it privately is a challenge, for many too hard of a challenge.

FIAT banks have many hidden fees and if you carefully don't check your bank statements you may never even know.

Do not advertise gambling, it's a cancer.

Not really much, in fact I don't use it at all, since we don't use Bitcoin as legal payment here in our country. There is no payment that will use crypto in our daily basis here. I think it will be hard for our country to make it legal to use Bitcoin as our daily payment due to its high volatility.

I only use cryptocurrency to save money and store assets. Our country's central Bank acknowledge cryptocurrency only as digital asset.

In the past few years? Zero, actually; in the past, if purchases of digital goods count, just a couple. I used to use Bitcoin to purchase digital accounts, such as Minecraft, or game codes for Steam, which I acquired by accumulating satoshi from faucets. Keep in mind that it was back in 2014 or 2015, when faucets paid thousands of satoshi per roll. I was a teenager and was thrilled by the whole concept and was motivated to acquire as much as possible, which unfortunately didn't last long.

Nowadays, I don't see much point; I'm seeing Bitcoin as a long-term investment, and since I can pay pretty much everything in cash or card, I don't see a valid reason to disrupt my Bitcoin holdings.

If you say often of course I will answer 0, because in my country there is no crypto or bitcoin payment option because its status is not yet Legal payment. However, for some time when making foreign transactions, for example my neighbor who works abroad and sends his child 2x a month for living expenses, he always uses crypto through me, it has been running for almost 3 years. Because I also happen to have an official local currency exchange service that works with the bank or in our country it is called BRI Link.

I have to use cryptocurrency regularly. Especially as a crypto trader has to constantly use cryptocurrency. On the other hand I also use crypto as a gambler. Sometimes I used crypto as payment for various things. By using online platforms to pay with crypto, it is possible to send money quickly and easily. Its use is steadily increasing in the present scenario and will continue in the future as well. Although we do not get the opportunity to use crypto in everywhere due to various restrictions, we can expect its doors will open soon all over the world.

I use USDT a lot for payment. But if it’s about Bitcoins, then I treat it as a highly valuable digital asset. I don’t consider it a cryptocurrency or mode of payment. Bitcoins are limited in numbers, hence very precious. So instead of spending it in various places, I use other cryptocurrencies like USDT to buy services (specifically freelance services). If you are someone who spends bitcoins where not needed, then you are making the biggest mistake of your life.

As in the title: How often do you use cryptocurrency (on chain, non-custodial) for payments.
If not so often or not at all, why do you think it will scale in the future and what will make you use it more often than today.

I am using cryptocurrency at least once a week for various online services, simply because it's more convenient and also more private, cheaper and faster than using regular FIAT options.
Not very often if I am honest about it, and that is because I see my bitcoin as an investment so if possible I try to not use it if I can avoid it, so I would say I probably make a transaction every three months or so and I buy back whatever amount I spent when I have the chance so my holdings do not decrease, now I do not know if bitcoin would scale to a level in which people use it every day, but I know that I would use it more often if more companies accepted bitcoin as a payment option.

I don’t think I’ve ever used crypto in my daily life outside of this forum. Sure, I use it here plenty to trade for goods or accept as payment for tips or products. I’d like to use it in my daily life but there aren’t any places around me that accept it, so it’s always easier to whip out the fiat credit card as opposed to trying to find a way to use crypto.

Like what few are doing, I also don't use cryptocurrency to pay something especially online.
I don't find it convenient at all especially the fees and the fact that there are only few merchants and establishments that are accepting crypto right now.

There are some who sees Bitcoin as a currency, but I see it as an asset, and there's nothing wrong about it hence, I will just hold all of my Bitcoins until the time comes that I need to sell it. For sure, here that is holding Bitcoin prefer holding it than using it to pay something because they might lose the chance of earning more if they will use it. If I really need to use cryptocurrency to pay something, I would rather go with altcoins that has faster transaction speed.

At the moment, none. But i used to receive payments in Bitcoin at my previous job as an IT support analyst. When i want to spend my fractions, i usually search for sites that accept crypto, but it's challenging to find a reliable one that's available in my area.

Bitcoin must become a store of value before it can be used by people as a currency. By then, i believe that layer 2 solutions should already be more developed to support average transactions. But it is inevitable that Bitcoin will one day become a store of value.

At the moment I'm only converting/exchanging bitcoin for fiat on the exchange when i need to pay bills and other personal expenses, but I've even used it to buy clothes from online stores.

Tbh not as much as I would like. It is difficult to find merchants who are willing to accept crypto as payment though I found one recently that accepts bitcoin, usdt and e-naira but I haven’t bought anything from them yet. I mostly use crypto for online purchases, like paying for sponsored ads on my social media pages through third party sites. This is very useful since my cards do not work.

Honestly the only times I am using crypto recently has been for minor purchases I’d say maybe like once a month if that. It’s just a much more convenient way in a sense for me for some of the lesser transactions with some of the folks here.

Maybe I would have chosen to use bitcoins more if they were sellers around me who receive bitcoins as a means of payment, and then other people who own bitcoins normally using their bitcoins for these payments because environment has a big influence, but that is not what is happening here, and since the normal for people who have bitcoins here is to keep holding for as long as possible, that has been my attitude to my bitcoins, to hold for as long as I can.
Same here, I would do the same. What you just explained is an ideal situation for every crypto enthusiast, but unfortunately not all country accept crypto as one of its legal payment. Just hold it like an investment asset, hoping one day it will give us big return.

I believe one day that countries all over the world will fully adopt cryptocurrency into their system, eventually everyone will use bitcoin like how we use our credit card.
