I know most times that even after buying a brand new phone in most of our malls, the next thing they ask is if you would want them to run some update on the phone so everything will work perfectly well.

It might be the ideal thing to do but I'm curious to know this, is there any potential risk associated with allowing them run an update on your system or mobile phone you just bought?

Is it possible that in the process of doing the update, they might take advantage and install some malware that can become a potential threat to your security and maybe expose your password or even serve as a means of stealing your crypto?

It will be nice to get your opinion on this most expecially from those that are better inclined on some technicalities associated with doing basic update on system.

Phones and computers manufacturing companies and manufacturing companies of other devices like tablets make it easy to first on the new device and make it working perfectly without the need of anybody's help. You do not need anyone to run anything for you on a new device.

If it is a used device, you can format it and reinstall the OS. I trust new devices than used devices.

Well, i don’t know if such tricks still exist but I’ve heard of software engineers who get to install some malware’s on computers and even on phones to track and monitors the activities of the users(don’t really know how it is done and don’t know if it’s still done now.)

A lot is going on in the world now and scammers are at the very high along with some reasonable projects flooding into the crypto space, it wouldn’t be surprising seeing some criminals in form of software engineers who would want to install some dangerous malware on your system and you just have to be very careful.

Regardless of what is done on the computer m, it is always advisable to use an antivirus software at all times and not mostly the free ones but possibly paid antivirus, atleast this very one will help scan and monitor threats on your system.

Answering your question, it’s not advisable to give either your phone or computer to anyone to fix except you know and trust them too well and always endeavor to be with them and be very careful and observant while they do their job.

Well am no expert when it comes to computer and software updates but I believe there is every opportunity and possibility that your device might be tempered with thats why I suggest you just do the things especially update yourself or if you find it difficult just look for guidance on how to do, because I believe I have seen some cases of manipulation of software device and believe it's no joke especially the person has crypto wallet with assets noticable.

There is no any risk involved if you bought a cellphone from the mall and they want to update it for you, actually is a normal thing because one thing you should know about some brand-new phone is that it requires to be configured or updated before it should be use because if is not configured there is a good chance that it may not work very smoothly as is supposed to be, so if you are thinking they would install something that would pose any threat to you I think you are mistaken the idea because there is no mall that would stoop very low by installing something that would invade there customers privacy, so is just a normal thing so long as the update or configuration is done within the mall, however even in laptop whenever you get new one they would always run an update to make all the features very functional.

The thing is the sellers of this devices actually just run the update for their customers not because they want to add anything shady but for two reasons first is to help out as they know not most people have knowledge on things like this and instead of future complains of the product due to lack of proper update by the new owner and secondly it is simply done Just prove to you that everything was working properly and fine before they hand over the device to the customer, the latter is usually the case for fairly used device.

As for maybe a malware could be downloaded on the device I will say yes there is the possibility of it happening even though i wouldn’t sometimes say it is a deliberate thing. But this sellers usually go for cracked softwares to avoid paying for the real ones and this could be a potential password or Information Theft in it, it simply didn’t mean it was planted intentionally by them. Well, I think you are right but that was then. Because the world we are today is not like before when you will buy a cellphone and you we want the seller to do the configuration for you. However, I think while we normally do that back then is because the scammers was not like as it is now you can give at your cellphone to your friends back then nothing will happen to it because of the trust you have on them. To be on a safer side, e no too make sense these days to de buy second fairly used gadgets because e get so many disadvantages when de associated with them. If na original system when you buy, all this issues of trying to do update no go be wahala because the company done already do all the necessary update and for your own part na to just do little setting based on what you want to use the system for.   Well OP from my little understanding firstly I don't like associating myself in fairly used items because some could be stolen items it a 50/50 items been sold what i mean is that you met be lucky to have a good working laptop's or phones for them, well back to the question you asked to me I don't trust people this days so I will probably take the brought laptop or phone home to runs the update by myself I think it should be a better one and on a safe self.

Yes e dey possible and to avoid taking the chances of "had I known" e better you do all your updates on your own. There are videos all over the internet to assist you and you no need give anybody your system to do am for you. Even if na antivirus you wan put. The steps to follow dey easy. But know say this guys no sabi you or know say you dey into crypto to want to harm you but na just their hustle wey dem dey hustle. It is not adviceable, to buy a fairly used PC for crypto, and if need be don't update your PC immediately where you bought it from, for security purposes because the seller must have known the components and functionality of the computer
,if you must ,then you have to get a trustworthy person to do that for you ,and an update application should be installed also in order to frequently get a notification for updates for safety purpose.
For %100 security and safety of your funds and wallet,it is better to buy a new PC, if you don't have the money to buy a new laptop,start with a phone and then later when financially okay, you get your laptop and others
