Is a guy carrying a 4.5-kilogram chocolate bar following you? He might be innocent but he might also be after your Bitcoin!
https://cointelegraph.com/news/scotland-first-ever-bitcoin-seized-toberlone-robbery-case

Quote
The court heard last year that three men conducted the home invasion in the town of Blantyre, southeast of Glasgow, and one repeatedly beat a woman at the property with a personalized Toblerone bar and threw her into a bedroom.
The victim, who isn’t named for legal reasons, testified that he awoke to find a man standing over him with a machete before he was forced to transfer Bitcoin.
The man who beat the woman then made a “throat-slitting gesture” with the bloodied Toblerone bar before all three fled.

This thing takes a top place in weird crypto robberies for sure.

If you had 23.5 Bitcoins (which was worth $144,017), you would spend $10,000 on home insurance, but it would be better to be private, as your friends and community should not know about your Bitcoin wealth.

Also we should be careful of P2P transactions. Know when to use coin control and mixers. Most people do not know about this, making people to easily trace their coins.

Have different wallets. Feature like dures mode on Unstoppable wallet can be helpful.

I am curios as to how the robbers got to know about their bitcoin holdings. Did she discussed about bitcoin to anybody out there before that day?  or  the possibility of registering with a local exchange where they must have gotten her details to have tracked her to her home and attack her.

Looking at the image above as one of the things  used to carrying such act, I believe sometimes things happens maybe just to create an impression for people to see either in good or bad ways.  How are we sure that they intentionally did use the above equipment just to discredit the company for reasons best known to them alone. Some times people act in that way and they end up tarnishing the reputation of others at their own interest.

This thing takes a top place in weird crypto robberies for sure.
This, now I wonder what other unbelievable means robbers  must have used to steal publicly from victims.

Actually as ironic as it seems in as much as one is trying to stay safe from hackers getting the best hardware wallet, having good online practice, ignoring physical security and anonymity is more dangerous because not just your funds are stake but also your life and your loved ones life, let's not even talk about the trauma from it even and possibly thinking of relocation to avoid unfortunate situations like that.

I am curios as to how the robbers got to know about their bitcoin holdings. Did she discussed about bitcoin to anybody out there before that day?  or  the possibility of registering with a local exchange where they must have gotten her details to have tracked her to her home and attack her
This we don't know since it wasn't stated, in the story maybe because the law haven't holds of this men rather only a man who the funds where transferred to. Though that being said it is still a bad practice that would lead to this at first, especially from the fact that what will someone having this amount of bitcoin with local exchanges.

What are you trying to say with this I'm curious?
Because all I see here is that the robbers knew how well they won't be looking suspicious to others, since it was obviously common for one to get these.

Also this won't affect the brand since they got nothing to do with this rather it making others aware of the fact this might be held for disguising weapons by criminals

Funny thing about weaponized Toblerone.

Privacy and security are very important. The woman could have discussed about bitcoin to someone or people which could be where those robbers know she has bitcoin. It could even be on social media that the robbers noticed that.

Also we should be careful of P2P transactions. Know when to use coin control and mixers. Most people do not know about this, making people to easily trace their coins.

Have different wallets. Feature like dures mode on Unstoppable wallet can be helpful.

This is most likely. Having talked too much about how much Bitcoin she had and not taking the appropriate precautions. Unless you are an influencer that everyone knows about it, talking about your holdings, or doing stupid things like wearing a t-shirt with the Bitcoin logo on it, is putting a target on your chest.

The more precautions, the better.

So, after 4 years they finally get caught? I wonder why it took so long to catch them.

After all from this news, toblerone goes stonk. Cool

Many people said, your biggest enemy are people around you and close to you. People who not know you much will not know when you're arrive in your home, when your home is empty, how many people live in your house etc.

How about don't tell people about expensive things you have around your house that can be taken.
We as a group keep going through this. It has nothing to do with BTC. If the they had known about a valuable pile of gold, or diamonds, or stamp collection or whatever the same theft would have happened.

We as a group here only think about it because it's BTC

Don't brag about wealth, don't talk about money you have. Period. Full stop.

Try to be famous and make noise so that other people know that you are a Bitcoin investor, is a very risky practice. There are many reported physical Bitcoin attacks and cost sometimes is not only your bitcoin, but can be your physical body and even your life (it means you can be killed by criminals).

Some people print Bitcoin logo and stick it on their helmet, car and other items. They think it is cool but I see it very risky and dangerous for their life.

One of the main reasons on why i dont really like on making myself trying to expose that i do engage with crypto even with my siblings or even into my friends. Im not boasting up that i have tons of coins but at least the amount would really be something significant or you could really be able to say that someone could abduct you or something that would be in similar with these kind of wrench situations. This is why its really that important that you should really be mindful on the actions that you are taking because it could potentially put yourself into possible danger or trouble. Its better to make yourself that lowkey so that you would be able to avoid
these dangers and there's no point on boasting up your crypto holdings because we do know that criminals would really be just that lurking in the shadows and just waiting for the right opportunity to strike.
So its ideal that you do keep it secret as much as possible and even telling into your friends or family members should be avoided and this could give that peace of mind.

I saw something similar in my country in 2017, when there were lucky people who earned money on bitcoin. One previously very modest and seemingly not very wealthy person suddenly began to buy clothes in "Brioni" boutiques. The end of the story is quite sad, but many have concluded.
If you suddenly become rich (there are many reasons), be more modest.
Another case was when a girl met a guy who did not spare money for gifts, but she could not remain silent and took pictures of his property and posted them online. The photos against the background of expensive furniture were appreciated by scammers. The result is a burglary, and it no longer matters whether the guy had bitcoins or he was simply rich.

Your tongue can sometimes be your enemy.

In as much as this report once again re-emphasizes the importance of privacy and security as a Bitcoin holder, it makes me happy that the victims had their bitcoin recovered, unlike the many cases that I reported here  Physical Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency Attacks that Have Been Reported Worldwide last year were some of the victims were killed or maimed.

Anyone in the world can be robbed if people want their goods.

In the USA a new crime is break into the garage of a house find the key clicker and steal the car.

My car in the attached garage has the key clicker sitting on the dash.

The inside garage door has three dead bolts.

So basically it is take the car and go.

It is a new hyundai sonata hybrid.

I do not want to be the guy in queens new york city get tortured with a hammer 🔨 to give up the keys. 🔑

Some people just don't know how to hide stuff. No one needs to know about what you do or what you own, if you have a bunch of cryptocurrencies or a lot of money in the bank, you don't need to make that public, I wouldn't even recommend discussing such things with close ones as well because the era we live in, no one can be trusted. You never know who is a double-faced person who is always around you and you entrust them with your secrets and the second thing that happens is you are getting robbed.

So I agree with what others are saying about not showing the world what you have. If you have something, keep it to yourself, use it moderately, and live your life so that it doesn't catch the attention of the evil in society. Some people don't have mercy, they won't even clinch before killing you because they don't value life, all they want are the resources you acquire and they can go to any extent to get that.

Scotland has a very low crime rate compared to England and other major countries in Europe.  Crypto robberies are not common and when they happen, there is always a pre-infromation. It is not like a bank account where the bank staff know how much every customer has. There is a chance that the owner of the coin or somebody else might have told somebody about his cryptocurrency. Living a modest life is also important because criminals are always looking out for signs to show that someone has something valuable. Those who flaunt wealth on social media have much to learn from this story.

Is this the beginning of a new meme? 5$ toblerone bar attack!

Why is the Toblerone robbery event only now reaching us? It surprises me that news about this didn't come out earlier this year.

Quote
The Lawyers at Edinburgh’s High Court agreed on Sept. 3 that the 23.5 BTC could be converted into cash for a total sum of $144,017 (109,601 British pounds).
A moment of nostalgia against the background of the text from the Toblerone robbery article.

Against the background of current prices for bitcoin, how ridiculous the amount for 23.5 BTC seems.

Just couple weeks ago friend of a friend (priest) was attacked in his own home by a thief with a hammer, he ended up as a vegetable (head trauma) and his mother was killed.
Thief got away with less than a hundred dollars as it was poor family, now in jail, awaiting trial on which he may get a very low sentence if they find him insane.

Shit like this happens all the time and you don't have to be a crypto millionaire.

So if you don't already have a gun, buy one (or get smashed to death by a toblerone). Glock is the best life insurance  Wink

The lazy people that don't have anything to think of but by being a con and stealing people's money really reinvents their crime weapons. I just hope that the court would just refund and give it back to the victim. Or if there's an agreement, the court should have given that thought of what the victim thinks is best for him, whether to receive it back in full form no more, no less in BTC. Because if it's said that it will be given back in cash, maybe that's just the judge's verdict without having considering what the victim may like. But still, this is good news for the victim that the stolen BTCs have been traced and seized and taken back.

It's true that privacy and security are very important... Never talk about bitcoin ownership it will invite people to steal in any way I have seen many cases of this out there, although not experiencing it myself but this is my vigilance against assets owned.

I once talked about bitcoin ownership with a close friend... You know what happened the friend who listened to that he wanted to borrow money because he knew that I had bitcoin even though not much he didn't care he insisted on borrowing money and told me his bitcoin to sell ... Crazy friends like this there are always desperate, I know he can act more than never expected...

Then I pretended to sell bitcoin and the money was used for other purposes ... from there never talk about assets owned again ... they always thought I had 1 BTC even though I never had it.

Nice reminder op. I have seen a couple of posts about $5 wrench attacks on the forum too. I addition many posts have been made by people of the likes of 1miau about keeping you hodlings more of a secret. Personally I believe the $5 wrench attack is a result of some HODLERS inability to ensure privacy of their funds. Some people get too carried away that they begin to broadcast their potential hodling to people unknowningly to them. Some of these victims are usually just naive and not trying to boast about their hodlings.

If you had 23.5 Bitcoins (which was worth $144,017), you would spend $10,000 on home insurance, but it would be better to be private, as your friends and community should not know about your Bitcoin wealth.
Let's just say this is the perfect warning and example of avoiding the mistake of putting all your investments on a single asset. Of course bitcoin is a nice investment but still that doesn't call for a reason to pump in all you investment into it. Other investment plans like buying a residential property to get some passive income is also a good idea.

Let's not forget that the security of every HODLERS coin is their full responsibility.
