I suppose he is using Android mobile which has Youtube installed on default. He can permanently clear up his mobile from this app by proceeding  to Settings menu. The other radical option though quite expensive one for him is to change his Android device to iOS mobile. The latter doesn't have youtube installed on default. But in my view the matter is not in device he exploits but his mood which is already twisted by gambling. I would advocate the visit to psychologist, the space where he could receive some help.

Nowadays, platforms quickly learn from your habits, directing content marketing to what interests you. If you block YouTube, you will probably still see gambling ads in a Google search, on websites you visit or on your social networks.

You can't get away from ads!

Sure buy youtube premium or better if you're on android install Adguard, it will kill every ad in every browser but what about real life?
If you watch a match there will be ads in the background on betting, there will be betting ads on the players shirts, and if you drive around town you will see gambling ads and casinos, you will never be able to completely outrun them, plus there will be people talking about gambling sometimes right beside you.

From what I see in your friend, he is willing to give up his gambling habit because he sees that it has caused a lot of bad things in his life, so he himself is making a way to get out of it through a friend like that. You approach him because he knows you can help him as a friend.

Well, for me I would say that you should live him to decide by himself since you have already advised him not quite long and he didn't not want to change, though one thing about someone that is already addicted to gambling bet is that their is know amount of advise that you would give him that we make him to change unless he decided by himself, if not that I don't really think if it'll be possible for him to stop gambling. Sadly our reality is that gambling is here to stay. We'd see it everywhere - the ads online and offline, people of all age groups talk about gambling, in the bus, on the street, church, clubs. What we can do is live with this reality. Your friend should have a healthy balance of the things he can control and that would minimize any personal conflicts he would face. The best he can do is reduce the number of gambling ads he sees by blocking that's what is in his control. It is unfortunately very difficult these days for you to avoid seeing gambling advertisements totally because they are everywhere on our mobile phones on television commercial adverts and even people around us are talking about it. If you are developing the resolve to stop gambling you have to have a strong mind towards it because if your triggers are advertisements that you are exposed to then you must find a way to possibly deal with it even if it is doing away with social media or your smartphone for a couple of weeks or days. If you are extremely addicted already to gambling you may also require extreme methods to break free from that addiction.

If seeing gambling advertisements can make people gamblers to come back to gambling then it will be better to quit social media because their is no how if one is active on social media and won't come across gambling advertisements. Quiting gambling may not be easy but if one really wants to quit it should be a decision that remains firm and never to return back to gambling.

you don't just come out of addiction by uninstalling and avoiding any information that's related to gambling. That's more like trying to touch the top of the problem while ignoring the root cause that has made him addicted to gambling. First off, for you to come out of an addiction that has gotten to a stage where any detail that reminds you of the act tries to compel you to go back to that act, you have to gradually take reasonable steps that will help you come out of those act on a gradual bases. He has to re-login with another email to his YouTube and that is because the current account that he's got there has already in the algorithm of YouTube to blast him with gambling videos. That's how his activities were before and YouTube just saved his behavioral browsing through it. And even if he'll buy a new phone but he'll log in with the same email, expect that there will be the same gambling videos that will appear on his feed and will be suggested by YouTube.

You're entirely correct, as far as he still access his account with that email, the auto-suggestion would be linked to his history of searches on the platform. Youtube uses that to help users with contents of preference, but in the case of your friend, it's clearly working against him.

We do know that browsers or any apps on which everything will really be that connected on which if there's something that you do get used to on making those searches then it will really be feeding you out
those ads which are related on what you are really doing. If you do get used on playing gambling or making some searches or any other correlated things towards it then expect that you would really be that bombarded
with those tons of gambling ads. If you do want to get rid specifically with Youtube ads then just like on what others been suggesting on earlier page then get Youtube premium and when it comes to browser then make use of Brave on which these are the ones wont be giving out those kind of ads or notifications on which it would be related to gambling or any.
