I really don't understand why this thread is allowed to be in the General forum. I have made a request to the moderator, but it remains on General.

1. It is about partisan US politics, spinning a policy story into a US election issue, specifically naming US candidates.

2. It is self-moderated, and the moderator systematically removes any post that criticizes Trump in any way, or defends the Biden administration in any way, etc. The OP is clearly interested only in creating a pro-Trump political campaign thread, not a discussion of Bitcoin news.

I don't see a problem with this sort of discussion in P&S, and I've even had threads of my own moved to P&S when they turned political, and I'm fine with that.

But seems to be some selective moderating here...

The thread was specifically created in respect to Gary stance towards cryptocurrency.
Nothing much has changed according to their latest post but what do I know.
As long as the thread isn't used for any scam activities, I don't really see much issue with it because it's self moderated and at the top of the thread of every self moderated post it is stated

There was already an existing thread in meta here complaining about the numerous political threads that exist on bitcoin discussion. Does the forum need so much politics? .

As long as the thread has something to do with crypto currency (bitcoin in particular), the thread can exist on that board and also on the political side of the forum; it’s left for the OP to decide where it can be posted. One thing about a self-moderated thread is that the OP is like the God of that thread; he or she decides what stays and what’s considered off topic.

If you are not convenient with the way things are done, just as @Ambatman, you stay off from such a topic.

I do not agree with the topic title, the thread is not 100% political or partisan. There is a lot of crypto related discussions in it and the main objective of the thread was crypto related too.

2. It is self-moderated, and the moderator systematically removes any post that criticizes Trump in any way, or defends the Biden administration in any way, etc. The OP is clearly interested only in creating a pro-Trump political campaign thread, not a discussion of Bitcoin news.
How someone self moderates their thread is not moderated.
There are no rules to self-moderation. In self-moderated threads, replies belong to the OP. In other threads, replies belong to the respondents individually. Think carefully about whether you want to reply to a self-moderated topic, as your post may not be given due respect.

If you are not convenient with the way things are done, just as @Ambatman, you stay off from such a topic.

But you can make any imaginable US partisan political topic "about Bitcoin".

Again, I have had Bitcoin-related topics that turned into partisan political discussions move to P&S. Why is this thread an exception? In fact, I created a thread specifically defending Gary Gensler, and it was... move to P&S. It sure looks like there's selective moderation going on here...

And I know what a self-moderated thread is, and I can even see the utility of one in narrow circumstances, but... what do you call a thread that systematically eliminates any post that does not agree with the OP's US partisan political stance except... pure US partisan politics?

You are probably referring to this thread[1]. I remember it cause I commented on it.
That thread was majorly about politics, more so than the thread you linked in your Op. This is not an indication of selective moderation neither is there any motivation for such. Two threads can be loosely related to the same topics but still dissimilar in many ways.

Moderators read situations based on their understanding of the rules and use that as a guide for their actions.

Is that a problems to you?
Okay if so just hit the report option then report post to move to the politics & Society. Although I had came across lot of post that were mainly on political discussion in the bitcoin discussion section yet where allowed to be discussed instead of the mod to move them to where it belongs nothing was done. Much more I discovered that they are also bitcoin related discussion and not entirely politics, so I don't have to bother anymore because I know lot of mod might have come across it.

You probably go triggered just because your reply got delete and now you think the forum is having 100% pure partisan politics. What is really awkward is that you realize the thread is self-moderated, but then for some reason you still think it's the moderators deleting your posts.

For starters. What do you think "Self-Moderated" means?

Believe it or not, Bitcoin is closely related to politics, so political events that will have direct impact on the market will always be discussed in the forum and probably in the general board. Initially, I was worried seeing so many of such thread because I gave it a second thought and realized that they were not out of place. I was even thinking your post have to do with the US election which we know will affect the market volatility but the link you posted have absolutely little to do with partisan politics but just  SEC charging Kim Kardashian for crypto promo.

it's probably for the dramatic effect and to make himself look like a damsel in distress for being "suppressed" by the forum because of his views.

2. It is self-moderated, and the moderator systematically removes any post that criticizes Trump in any way, or defends the Biden administration in any way, etc.
are you 100% certain that the mods are the ones removing the posts? I mean, as you said, the thread is self-moderated, meaning the person who created the thread can moderate it.

The question here is not about whether US partisan politics should be discussed on bitcointalk.org: clearly it should be. I created a thread directly opposing the offending thread here and it was moved to P&S. Yet this thread stays, despite being reported as off-topic partisan politics in the General forum.

It would appear, therefore, that if the thread is pro-Trump, then it can stay in General, and if it's anti-Trump, it's moved to P&S. That's a double-standard.

And it's a really bad double-standard since about 55% of Americans absolutely hate Donald Trump and everything he stands for, and making Bitcoin a "Trump thing" is really, really bad for business.

And I am fine with self-moderated threads in general, but if a thread is using the self-moderation solely to advance a US partisan political agenda, then that makes it... a US partisan politics thread--and thus it should be moved to P&S.

Still wondering why this blatantly US partisan thread is being allowed to stay in the Bitcoin General forum while others that are critical of Donald Trump are systematically removed.

Remember, this is a thread where, if you are not in favor of Donald Trump winning the US election and try to counter the partisan lies being told in this thread, your post is immediately removed by the Trump campaign worker who posted it:

The thread was originally about influencers who were sued for promoting Ethereum MAX. I’m not sure why this altcoin topic is even in the Bitcoin Discussion section. Gambling topics seem to be arbitrarily removed from the Gambling Discussion section quite frequently and placed in the off-topic section. There is no real consistency so I guess altcoin topics that become Trump fan threads are now allowed in Bitcoin Discussion.

I understand your concern, it's genuine but still, moderators may not see any wrongdoing in it. First, it's about cryptocurrency, maybe you wanted anything about Bitcoin in that Bitcoin discussion section, but you need to know that the topic was important to the entire crypto space at that time even as a big name like Gary Gensler of SEC was mentioned. The moderator may look away for that reason.

Again, if it is for the self-moderation concern, they can equally look away because it is allowed on the forum if you've attained a certain rank. And the forum would have warned you when you are on a self-moderated page. Lastly, the thread is old and it's your choice to discuss in such a thread as we all know that any post that is not inline with that of the OP may be deleted which makes me avoid such threads, especially when I know that I would speak the truth and opposite to its creator.

I had a thread specifically about Gary Gensler moved to P&S (and to be clear, I didn't complain about that, and I thought it was fine). The only difference between the two threads is that the one remaining there is a 24/7 advertisement for "Donald Trump for President".

Again, I am not complaining about the use of the self-moderating functionality. I am only pointing out that when you use that functionality to create a one-sided argument in favor of a US politician, that thread is absolutely political, and not on the topic of Bitcoin.
