Is anyone here using the UniSat wallet for Fractal Bitcoin?

https://unisat.io/download

I was thinking of installing it to mine some FB, but the wallet to generate a receiving address looks a bit dodgy to be honest and that's putting me off a lot presently.

There doesn't appear to be a "desktop" wallet thats compatable other than a chrome extension (and I won't touch Chrome with a barge poll).

There are APK's and Google Play versions for Andriod and apps for Apple devices.

https://unisat.io/download

The registered developer address on Google Play for the app, is somewhere in HongKong which never leaves me with any degree of confidence.

Just wondering if anyone here has used it or is using it and what the experience is like?

Has the codebase for it been heavily tested and inspected?

Never heard of it, or FB.

Any Chrome extension can be installed on Chromium.  Chromium is the open source browser on which Chrome is based, but it's de-googled by default.  Installing Chromium on Linux OS is easy, it's in the apt sources.  On Windows it's a bit more tricky.  The safest way is to compile it yourself, but there's a Winget version that's quite reliable:

Code:

Sounds like you're trying to justify the risk, but there are ways to mitigate that.  For example you can dedicate a simple VM with a Linux OS and the Chromium browser to run nothing but that wallet.  That's what I would do if I wanted to experiment with something like this.

I installed unisats before for ordinals or BRC20 but I'm not fully tested their wallet.

If you are going to mine Fractal Bitcoin aka FB you don't have any other choice because the documentation from fractal bitcoin only suggesting unisat wallet as your self custody wallet.

There's optional wallet that support FB but it is a wallet from Web3 OKX.

Check this docs below

About the unisat app it seems its own by unisat.io they also support ios and android for windows they don't have a wallet app/software but extension for chrome browser that can be download here https://unisat.io/download

The extension one seems fully tested by some contributor on github so I think it safe to use.

BTC is still bearish at the moment, but it is getting weak. The market might shift while the RSI is making a reversal pattern.

To get more advantage analyzing the market, why not try to subscribe to TradingView and unlock the $15 reward from your first subscription?

I know that unisat and xverse are web3 wallets, which you can even use them to log in into some webpages like metamask. I think this is an interesting use of it.

However I never hard about fractal bitcoin. Looks to be a scaling solution of multiple layers according to the link bitmaxz posted.

I have never heard of Fractal Bitcoin. It seems like a merged mining scheme that has its own coin and blockchain.
The information on UniSat wallet on Bitcointalk is very limited. There are some threads in Russian and Turkish that won't be of too much help to you unless you understand those languages. I managed to find this thread that you can read through (it's short). It contains some user experiences of Bitcointalk users.

It's recommended by FB (Fractal Bitcoin) on their website[1], even for mining purpose[2]. But FYI, FB support merge mining with Bitcoin, where 3 Bitcoin mining pool already does that[3]. So IMO you better mine Bitcoin on pool which support merge mining and share the reward from merged mining.

Thanks all for the replies.

Nothing really new here and almost all lead back to a single source at UniSat.

I was really hoping someone had first hand experience of it.

I'm wondering if bitcoincore can be re-configured to attach to FB and provide a wallet address for it in much the same manner you can set-up for mainnet, testnet, testnet4 etc.

Anyone with expertise in setting up bitcoincore? can this be done?

Thanks

I'm not really familiar with merge mining, what does that entail?

Does it simply mean I can mine to FB but get paid out in BTC?

Binance has a decent explanation of it:

https://academy.binance.com/en/glossary/merged-mining

It's been around for a very long time. Depending on the pool you can either get paid the merged coins in addition to BTC. Or they keep them and sell them and give you better rates for your BTC mining shares.

Most merged mined coins are not worth enough to matter that much. Some are but not many.

It allows you to mine multiple cryptocurrencies at once without any extra computational cost. In this case, you’d be mining Bitcoin as your primary coin, but you'd also get rewards in Fractal Bitcoin (FB) if you’re mining through a pool that supports FB. Essentially, you'd be contributing to Bitcoin mining, but you'd get paid out in both BTC and FB from the same effort. But make sure you’re using a reliable pool that supports merge mining and is trustworthy.

Thanks, that's all making a bit more sense now.

F2Pool seems to offer merged.

Once I have a secure environment to run the FB wallet and generate a receiving address I think I'll give it a go for a while and see how it progresses.

Thanks Dave,

I couldn't access the glossary for some reason, it just redirects back to their main page.

Not to worry, I've seen enough explanations now.

Thanks

Just an update on where I am with this.

I set-up a VM to install the UniSat Chrome Wallet running on Ubuntu, that went surprisingly well.

A receiving address was automatically generated. Reading through many of the "help" notes on F2pool you have to select Taproot as the type of receiving address apparently to avoid "issues", anyway thats done. The wallet and address was created.

I then set-up an account at F2pool, which I've now pointed an ASIC to to mine merged BTC & FB, this is done by entering both your BTC and FB receiving addresses on your BTC mining tab in the F2pool set-up.

Then point the miner at the BTC mining address and away it went.

It didn't take long for the ASIC to connect and start the mining process, I'm not pushing much hash rate there since its just experimental at this stage but it does appear to be simultaneously mining BTC and FB according to the revenues page on F2pool.

I'm going to leave it running there for a week and see how it goes.

I've only installed that for testing purposes
But be aware that there's currently a bug that when imported with private key WIF with uncompressed flag (starts with 5), the wallet restores addresses from its compressed pubKey instead.
So, heads up, in case you're planning to restore old paper wallets or similar backups.

For development, I think it's on a slower side since the issue I've opened regarding that issue is still open for almost a year now, but the repo is generally active.
Or they just do not prioritize such issue since the only reply they made in January is: their "devs are very busy".
Commits are mostly for GUI elements and text edits: https://github.com/unisat-wallet/extension/commits/master/

Well, all I can say about it is that it worked for the purpose of testing out mining on F2pool to Fractal Bitcoin. It generated the FB recieving address automatically during the set-up phase. I've not played around with it much beyond that to be honest.

The returns are so low on Fractal, the only way to do anything effective with it would be to mine solo. Since there doesn't seem to be any solo pools offering Fractal at present thats a bit of a dead end. Spiderpool mentions it but it looks like its invite only.

Fractal is looking a bit like a dud from a home miners perspective.

So, for me my experiment completed at this time.

Privacy is not the goal of unisat wallet.

It is a web3 wallet, focused in nft and tokens . It also allows you to login using into websites, like metamask.

You receive 4 addresses when you created the wallet,  1 one each format. I un-installed mine a few days ago, so I can't test if you can generate more. But I guess that is not the purpose of the walle

I'm wondering if bitcoincore can be re-configured to attach to FB and provide a wallet address for it in much the same manner you can set-up for mainnet, testnet, testnet4 etc.

Can't do that unfortunately, all of the networks that are supported by Bitcoin Core are hard-coded into the program. This is not like Ethereum where you can add new networks on-the-fly without restarting.

I've used this wallet once, I've heard about it, but it doesn't seem like a good wallet if you're only going to use Bitcoin: it doesn't create a new address when receiving from a previous one and that's bad for privacy. Can anyone confirm if this has changed?

I haven't used this either but I'd reckon that this wallet software is working with private keys, not with seeds or HD paths, if it supports restoring from a private key WIF.
