I want to first of all state that this isn't a gambling related topic..more of a sports topic therefore do not be surprised if the mods move this topic to the off-topic board. Well, if they do I'll still state my opinion here. Cristiano Ronaldo has paid his dues . Even the other day, I say him celebrating 1 billion followers across all social media platform. It is a big deal and he paid for it in blood sweat tears, therefore seeing his image on a coin is an awesome feeling which I would feel too if I were in his shoes.

I didnt saw how real design of this coin is going but I dont think anyone will use it for any payments.
People love him in Portugal but I think this is to much for someone who is still alive.

It was good honour for the real sportsman,the country honours the person who is still alive is the unique thing.Because most of the leader get their statues or the memorandum like this after the death.This also make notice of the people to know the importance of the sports,we know many people achieve through their academics and become a government officer.This coin will inspire the new and young sportspersons to set the goal of Ronaldo as their life term achievement.Really appreciated this move by Portugal government.

Who has seen the coin? I found an image from on to know how the coin design is and that above image is what I found. Cristiano Ronaldo is a big name and it's indeed a great honor that his image was added because he has actually brake a lot of records. @Upgrade00 I don't know if this is true or not (No check done) but a 5 euro coin has been launched here in Italy dedicated to a famous singer (Vasco Rossi). THese coins can be used as legal tender, of course due low mintage and interest in collection no one will use for pay a kebab...

After this coin has been launche the price literally has a strong pump (even 1000%).

No it wont be legal tender if it actually does happen. Its more of a commemorative medal
that a coin. Its hard to decypher if this is actually happening or if it is indeed just clickbait.

I saw this image below on facebook and there are 4 different designs which look to be AI
generated, and badly at that. They all seem to be Bronze, if some authority in this in
Portugal were actually doing it   would expect to see Gold or at least Silver. I think indeed
this could be nonsense.

I really admire the gesture. I can only imagine how it will feel to have your face engraved on a coin as a football legend for your country. It is the highest recognition a player can get from his country. This shows the love Portugal has for Ronaldo. Even as a national football icon, not everyone gets this kind of respect. It's funny that Central Banks need to go to these lengths to acquire some cash from silly collectors. Every bank is forced to pass all their transactions through them, and yet this is what central banks resort to these days to support their operations? Marketing products to collectors and football fans?

I'd much rather see issuances like these from independent organizations or the teams themselves but there's so many collectors that cling to the idea of it being "official". One could hope that if the Euro loses its value that these could retain some collective value, but that's not certain either really. You're getting to a good place to confirm that news. It would be pretty reasonable to dig into each and every nook and cranny. Why is he so weird and scary? Couldn't they have made him a little more realistic and beautiful? He looks like a character from a horror movie. The sculptor was clearly not in the mood. There was no exact information regarding this coin whether it can be used to shopping or transaction or it just for collection only but i think this coin is limited edition and i am sure Ronaldo fans will starting to hunting to gets these coins and those who already gets this coin i am sure they will keep it and will not used it for the transaction because probably Portugal government only print it for limited and certainly Ronaldo is deserved to gets that because he is Portugal living legend and he can bringing Portugal to gets Euro Cup which this is the only trophy Portugal has won from a major tournament

That will give proud to me because not many people will get that opportunity so they will show to other what their achievement.
