I’ve also received suggestions from friends on how to boost activity in our local section, but I feel like it’s still not enough. I need input from great minds to truly improve our activity. It’s a bit disappointing to see how much activity has dropped, especially since it used to be very active. And I’m not the only one who’s noticed....there’s even been a thread questioning this situation.

As you can see, there were only a few replies, which implies that the activity has indeed decreased since people aren’t as interested in sharing their opinions anymore.

I’m bringing this up here because, for those who don’t know, crypto scams are rampant in our country. It’s even worse because of the notorious POGO hubs, which have been labeled as scam dens. In fact, our president already announced a ban on them last July.

One way to help reduce scams is by making our local section more informative, so people have a place to gather useful information they can use to fight against these scams. If you look at surveys, a lot of Filipinos are into crypto, and this data backs that up:

2022: The Philippines ranked 2nd in the Chainalysis Global Crypto Adoption Index, driven by the popularity of platforms like Axie Infinity, DeFi usage, and strong engagement in crypto trading.
2023: The country dropped to 6th, influenced by the global bear market, FTX’s collapse, and a reduction in crypto value received (from $8 billion in 2022 to under $5 billion in mid-2023).
2024: The Philippines now ranks 8th, reflecting strong participation in centralized services and retail crypto usage. DeFi remains an essential part of the ecosystem, though other emerging markets have gained more momentum.

You must do things naturally and boost activities, discussions in your local boards often relate to something unnatural and effects from it will be unsustainable. It won't help your local board in long term.

Like companies with marketing in forum via signature campaigns. When they launch these campaigns, activities in their announcement threads will increase, but I am sure, it's unnatural. You can see it when they stop campaigns, their announcement threads will become less active and some turn to inactive threads. Big platforms have their own community and discussions will continue even without an active signature campaign.

For your local board, activities drop can be because locals are busy with lives, or some sudden catastrophe like hurricane, floods and so on. Or it's because most of them now are rich through Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies and left the forum, like many early forum members now disappeared.

You should force campaign managers or you can run a campaign that only pay the posts that posted in Pilipinas board, I'm 100% sure your local board activity will increase especially if you can give guarantee the campaign is long term and pays higher among other campaigns.

Or it's because most of them now are rich through Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies and left the forum, like many early forum members now disappeared.

It's because they're active not because of signature campaign and people left because it's getting harder to join a campaign or the pay rate now drop.

This isn't a bad idea. Of course, if the activity rose for this reason alone, it would basically be everyone advertising their signature product to each other 

Last time I checked in on that sub board it seemed to have a decent amount of activity. A lot of campaign managers will pay for a certain amount of posts on local boards per week; I suppose encouraging Filipinos to make use of this allowance on their local board would be a more feasible task than starting up a sig campaign specifically for them.

I don't know if it's any consolation, but it's been pretty much the same on all local boards and on bitcointalk in general.

Speaking of your local board specifically, for the last few years you have had one of the lowest merit/post ratios across all local boards,sometimes so low that it's on par with the worst parts of the forum, like the off topic section. That might be one of the reasons why your members are not as active as they used to be (given that they are still active on forum, just not in your local).

I know that some tried with awarding the most active/helpful members of their locals so you might wanna try that, but that means someone would have to pay from their own pocket.

I don't have the funds to pay for a campaign to make the local active, and even if I have, I would not do that as I want them to be interested not because of money. Honestly, the main thing missing in our local section is "merits." Without merits, active members won’t be as interested, as they’ll likely prefer to post outside the local, hoping to earn some.

The goal here is to improve activity in our local section, but unfortunately, without a merit source, we’re limited in what we can do. However, I’ll do what I can in my own small way to help keep our community active. If I manage to earn some merits, I’ll make sure to distribute them to users I think are deserving.

I’ll start by focusing on the higher-ranked members, rather than giving merits to newbies right away. There are many Sr. Members+ in our local community who aren’t active anymore, even though they already know a lot about crypto. My initiative now is to PM those inactive members and ask them to help with our goal. In line with that, I’ve created a  topic asking members to list the names of those who’ve been inactive, so I can reach out to them.

Another thing that you could do is to report all good posts from your local board to Report unmerited good posts to Merit Source thread. I did it few years ago when my local borad was in a situtaion similar to yours, and it helped.

OP a similar situation has been happening to my local board too. We had a merit source who has been busy and thus there is no local board dedicated merit source. Although I applied recently, it will take a long time to get approved by the looks of it.

Forcing the manager to pay for local boards posts might be an option, but does sound a bit of "extortion" in a softer manner to me.

If they are not incentivized - will they not be posting there at all? Try to keep it active and have some topics that people find interesting, not just crypto because the latter is a niche thing to talk about.

Anyway the suggestion of incentivized campaign would rather good to boost the local section. I am thinking that kind of activity too, hopefully I earned decent from some of my investment and will do that particular activity. Not really bad though since it will boost the activity though the ads are merely a giveaway for some local users.

haven't been among one of the most active members in the Nigeria local board and also being one of the pioneer member that see our local board board creation till we hard our local board merit source and moderator,, one thing i can tell you about local board activity is to first of all have a dedicated active local board members that are ready to educate other newbies local members with all the necessary information and knowledge that will help them in their cryptocurrency journey and how best to secure themselves, this are the basic thing and with interesting cryptocurrency related topics that are locally related.

this helps the interest of other local board members to contribute and eventually increasing the over all activities, I use to see some Philippines members around the forum, and I must say that your local board should be ranked among the top active local boards in the forum considering the number of members that are from Philippine.

It requires 10 posts that haven't received enough merit, or as theymos put it:

 1. Be a somewhat established member.
 2. Collect TEN posts written in the last couple of months by other people that have not received nearly enough merit for how good they are, and post quotes for them all in a new Meta thread. The point of this is to demonstrate your ability to give out merit usefully.
 3. We will take a look at your history and maybe make you a source.

Imho, if you're applying for a merit source position on a local board, and you can't find 10 good posts from the last few months written in that local board that haven't received enough merit, the logical question is do you even need a merit source?

Hey brother, thanks for creating this thread for our local board. I am also concerned that activity is too low and there are sections where the last posts are months ago.

I don't know if it has something to do with local board limitations of posts due to the campaign some of our brothers in local board are promoting, but we need to keep a new thread coming that will generate interests, and if possible, we need to allocate a portion of merit to our local board since we do not have an active merit source.

I'm just glad that my campaign manager does not have local board limitations, so I can post from time to time there.

I'm guessing that shouldn't be a problem, i don't think there is any signature campaign manager that would disqualify any of their participants from payments because they posted in their local board. The rules will probably only state that local board posts will not be taken into account, so that shouldn't stop people who want to post in the local board from doing so, only that their managers would not count such posts for payment.

That’s exactly right. We can’t really blame campaign managers for not paying local posts since they have agreements with advertisers to make sure their interests are followed. If it’s a gambling campaign, the focus should be on the gambling section or areas with high visibility.

If it’s like the local scene in the Philippines and a campaign allows unlimited paid posts, members might focus too much on local boards, which defeats the purpose of advertising. It’s better to make an effort, and there’s nothing wrong with posting 5-10 times in local boards when we have the time... as long as it keeps the local boards active and the conversations meaningful, not just for campaign purposes.
