The developers linked the above notice on reddit saying they're launching the coin at 4:20am GMT on 4/2/2014. Seems like a pretty legit launch compared to most coins. From the FAQ:

When the client is finished, the time and date of the release will be announced at least 48 hours ahead of time to give everyone a fair shake at earning some LeNewMemeNiceMayMayManCoins.
• No IPO or Buy-in! We don’t want to take your money. Just mine your coins on Day 1 like everyone else.

Well... I'm not about to throw my GPU miner in the garbage like they say but I'm interested to see how this plays out. I guess I'll just keep an eye on the countdown clock. Unusual concept to say the least, but could be promising.

It definitely doesn't follow the format of most bitcointalk release announcements. I'd been assuming it was something CPU-viable like Primechain or Cuckoo Cycle based on their "anyone can mine it" comments.

I read somewhere that it's based on Primecoin but I don't remember where.

What the LeNewMemeNiceMayMayMainCoin haters don't get is the awe inspiring exhilaration and power of being able to instantaneously transfer money, big or small, to any other person on the planet without the need of an intermediary, without delay, without permission, without approval, and without interference.
They do not understand the deep and abiding desire of free people to be free of a nanny state which proclaims them criminals for the crime of spending their own money.
They do not understand the deep and abiding resentment of the public with the predatory banking system.
They do not understand our resentment of a debt based economy which debases the currency solely to benefit those in power.
They can keep hating on LeNewMemeNiceMayMayMainCoin all they want. Please do. Scoff at it. Laugh at it. Demean it.
Meanwhile we, the people, will create a new economy which you do not, and cannot, control.
So, laugh all you want about our funny magic internet money. Because, in the future, a true market economy will arise that you do not control.
