I downloaded portable Electrum for windows from

https://electrum.org/#download

and extracted it.

It works, but it is not really full portable. All settings are not stored in current Electrum directory but in another user directory:

C:\Users\ts\AppData\Roaming\Electrum\

How can I tell Electrum (portable) to use a different directory for all its settings (e.g. the current directory or a sub directory "myset" for it?

Is there a cmdline switch similar to

D:\tools\bc\electrum\prgm\electrum-portable.exe -settings "..\myset\"

Mind the leading double dots as relative path to the brother directory.

Or at least with absolute path:

D:\tools\bc\electrum\prgm\electrum-portable.exe -settings "D:\tools\bc\electrum\myset\"

Are you sure that you downloaded the portable one?
Because if you downloaded the correct portable version, all of the files would automatically generate in the same folder as the portable version of Electrum.exe.

I've tested it just now to make sure all files is under "electrum_data"

My guess you downloaded the standalone executable they are the same as the installer make sure to download the portable one below the installer look at the image below

Is there a cmdline switch similar to

D:\tools\bc\electrum\prgm\electrum-portable.exe -settings "..\myset\"
Yes, -D <path> (case sensitive) will set Electrum to use the specified directory as its datadir.
e.g.:
Code:
./electrum-4.5.5.exe -D "./relative_path"
Code:
./electrum-4.5.5.exe -D "D:/absolute_path"

It works, but it is not really full portable. All settings are not stored in current Electrum directory but in another user directory:
That may be an old/unrelated datadir created when you launched non-portable Electrum at least once.
Check your executable's name if it actually contains "portable" (if you haven't renamed it), renaming the stand-alone executable wont work.

Take note that some of the settings as saved in the wallet file (per-wallet settings),
then other global settings are in the "config" file.

Thank you
Glad that it works, You're welcome.

But... you forgot to switch account  Wink (not that it's against the forum's rules)
Or are you not OP's alt, just happen to be on a similar situation or needed to use a custom datadir?

ROTFL...  ...  well, yeah, could be, could be not. OP tends to write Thomas under his posts, while pxstein usually writes Peter. Both also write in German language (OK, OP only once, but the German doesn't look translated, so likely one or two native speakers).

That's a funny coincidence or alts, no hard evidence to support latter.
