Be careful of fake Binance desktop app. Recently, I posted this thread on SA about fake passive income that appears on Youtube ads.
Now, I've come across this ad on a popular blue social media.
My problem is with these ADs and how the company behind these ads never vets what they are promoting. They accept anything and promote it without considering how some people, especially those new on the internet and very naive, can be affected.

Because there is already knowledge that ads are not always legit and that some ads can actually lead you to scam platforms, there should be caution on your side. You should not trust whatever pop-up ad you see. Download apps from official websites or the App Store.

Thanks for sharing this. I personally would never install any Exchange's desktop app for many reasons. Most of them do not even do a vulnerability test before launching the apps. Most of these apps of the exchanges are created using JavaScript which the codebase is used for Mobile, Tablet, Desktop and Web versions which make them very unsafe to use. You should always use the Mobile App or directly login using browser.

Advertised by a sketchy page named "Profit Pioneers" promising 0% commission/trading fees directing whoever is interested in it to click their link which will redirect to this link;
As we can see, scammers always weave their malicious game by placing tempting offers and eye-catching names for profit or linking to celebrities, which may push any beginner to try what they publish in the hope of recovering from trading fees and the like. It is worth noting that everyone has previously warned against these fraudulent ads containing malicious software and dangerous phishing links. They simply impersonate Binance's brand name/logo or any CEX and exploit it to promote their scams. Binance has previously warned about this matter through the following announcement: 'How to Protect Your Assets From Fake App Scams'

It is worth noting that the phishing domain is inactive, and it seems to have been taken down. However, they may return with other domains, so it is advisable to install an ad blocker and the Detect Phishing Sites extension, in addition to being cautious about social media.

They just added the word “-desktop” to the original Binance URL, but if you don’t look closely, you could easily fall for the scam, especially when it’s promoted on social media or YouTube in a way that looks enticing. My suggestion is to always bookmark the official Binance website to avoid any confusion that could end up being costly.

Binance also released a warning about phishing websites like this, which you can check out below.

How to Identify URL Spoof Phishing
Examples of Phishing Sites
Right, they just added a desktop word on it and that's what scammers do. They use the origin word and make gullible people believe that they're the real one. I'll edit the OP and add those links.

Beware of 99% of apps/websites being promoted on Facebook and other social media, as there's a very high chance of scams.

If a product enticed you through an ad, find the product manually through Google or social media search; don't click on the ad.
Yup, thanks for that tip and welcome back.  Wink

Binance does have a legitimate desktop app, although I’m not sure why anybody would use it instead of the website. They don’t provide a signature for their official desktop apps so people could end up in a situation where they do a google search for "Binance desktop app" and accidentally end up on a phishing site and won’t know they are installing malware until it is too late.
Their users only have to visit their official website and that's it. But there's still a risk on this one when no one will notice that someone, a hacker would change the downloadable file into theirs, this has happened from other services that users even visited the official one and yet, the devs and admins didn't noticed it was replaced. Although for the likes of Binance, this is unlikely and little chance, it's still best to visit the official link.

Man!! this site looks genuine. Anyone who isn't careful enough will surely fall for this kind of phishing sites. Because it's easy to post any links through social media, scammers are using it. Another thing I have noticed, whenever you google search any exchanges like Binance, Kucoin, or Bybit etc, the search result always shows sponsored site at first and then the original site, which I searched for. These so called sponsored sites aren't always the real ones. Better be careful...
Yeah, looks genuine and a newbie is likely to fall on it. Whoever sees that ad might believe that they're actually from Binance but with the name of the page, they seem slipped on that.

The proliferation of these fake crypto desktop app in my estimation is due to the airdrops that have been on the rise. And Binance has been at the forefront of listing some of these tokens. Those who have participated in the tasks of these airdrops and are eager to get their rewards will definitely fall victims to fake app. tabas, I am sure that if you carry out more investigations, you will find out there other fake exchange desktop app because it cannot just Binance.
I agree that there will be more to it, actually I am just casually browsing and seen it on my feed and there's a lot more you're right because some ICO has also shown in my feed, I'll post that soon as well. And with the potential victims of it you're right with it too, they're the active ones that participates in the airdrops and those that don't have time to check if they're downloading a real one or not.

This looks like something that a newbie of me can never fall for, simply because it is too obvious, that link isn't Binance official link, even if a Binance desktop wallet exists that should be available on Binance website included with the mobile app too but newbies are main target for this because they are too stupid to realize the difference so I am not going to say that this warning isn't necessary.
You're no longer a newbie because you've found the obvious. But sadly, even if we can avoid these fake websites and apps there goes the real newbies that are likely to fall for it. That's why if there's a way to educate them, even with your friends, please do.

After finding and checking to confirm their exchange website link, get download link officially from their websites.
Yes, verifying and checking the official link as always. The rest that has the same word of its service are copycats and fake.

Some people will not listen. It is as simple as download the Binance app from the official website. All exchanges also works like that. If you access the exchanges on the web, you will see where you can download their apps when you are about to login. All these are easy to avoid but some people are just novice.
Yeah, easy for us to avoid but we're not the target of this but the beginners. These scammers will come to them at any means because they know that some will still fall for this trap.

There have been fake Binance desktop applications appearing recently. They may look legitimate but are designed to steal personal information and funds. Always download the app only from the official Binance website and check the URLs. Protect your accounts by using two-factor authentication and avoid suspicious links.

This applies not only to Binance but also to all other exchanges and wallets.
That's right, add always 2FA. Whether you use Binance or any exchange for trading always activate the 2FA and don't put all of that funds in there stock as if being used as a wallet.

'Desktop App' yet the advertising image of the Scam shows very clearly a Google Chrome tab open with the Binance website on it and it is not even promoted by a fake Binance account.  It can not be more clear than this that it is a Scam.  This is the type of Scam only Newbies and non technical Computer users would fall for.  And these are the same people who likely believe that it must be real and legitimate since it is on the Internet..
It's pretty sad that even the name of the page is technically from an unknown source but they know that there will be newbies that will likely fall for it. And when that page and post are reported, they'll make a new one. I hope that these social media will be strict on which pages they'll allow to advertise but then, it's all about the money as long as they pay they will approve these ads.

Since Binance browser is banned in the Philippines surely it will help us too to identify fake binance desktop apps since we cant access this one.
While there are some newbies that would still like to access them, bypassing through VPNs if they are persistent as the promised "0% fee" looks interesting to them.

I think you should be more careful with crypto ads and not click on any sub-link especially those that lead to downloading files, YouTube or Facebook do not have strict conditions and many of these ads are support for fraud.
Exactly, they don't filter them out on who's using them to advertise. And thanks for the reminder, I'd be more careful next time.

Thanks for this, I have just scrolled on my facebook and I thought I could have seen this kind of ads? Not sure, but I have to go back and check, but what caught my attention is that it's very similar interface that is showing in my feed.

Yeah, I heard that Binance is ban from the Philippines but there are still Filipinos that I known of who are trying to access with VPN.

Anyhow, thanks for this warning and hopefully no one will fall for this trick.
You're welcome, the technique of these cons is they're quickly changing the page asap if someone reports it and that's why you are not seeing this kind of ad. And if you try so, you're likely to get into the algorithm of these ads and soon likely ads will be visible to you.

Social media is the worst place to get or download anything related to cryptocurrency, there are so many scam ads on facebook, YouTube and the others. I wonder if the people who fall for these scams are new to crypto and they don't have any involvement prior to clicking such links, i say so because if you are in the crypto industry, you should know where to get legitimate information and also know where you should and should not download things from.
It's a mix type of people, newbies and some quite old in the industry that have loosened their guards being too comfortable. The same goes for messaging apps like Telegram which it is also rampant.

Everyone should remember that you can download such applications only from the official website. At the same time, you need to visit the exchange's website only from your bookmarks in the browser. You should take responsibility for your safety.
That's another tip, bookmark the websites that we always use. We should do it as an etiquette to avoid being at risk.

It's all about the money. They wouldn't mind filtering it for the cause of those potential victims. All they are is for the profit and if they want to, these slipped ads can be monitored and removed asap. They're good with those violations about copyright infringers but with consumers protection from these scammers, they are so slacked of.

You're welcome. I agree, if the exchange is accessible through their website. I'd do that favor for myself and being more careful, it's best to avoid installing any app from them. Coming from wallets, to these desktop apps and other resources that could be a gateway for the hackers.

I think most exchanges are giving warnings for attacks like this. But even if they have given that reminder for so many times, still, there will be those few who fall for it. You're right, very likely once reported and taken down, they'll come out again with a newer domain and name.

Note: Always verify and check the official links and channels before downloading.
In 2020, I wrote Officially visit websites & download apps, not fake ones. Thank you for reminding about this scam type again because it exists with time, there are newbies who will be vulnerable to this scam and can become new victims.

I was quite amazed, they dared to spend money to display ads. So this scammer dared to lose first for his actions. Maybe to those who are new, it looks genuine but there is a big difference. So you really have to be careful with every letter and punctuation.  From the local board, I learned that Binance should have a verification link to check whether the link has been officially verified by Binance or not.

I learned that Binance should have a verification link to check whether the link has been officially verified by Binance or not.
It is a great addition and may help few, but not many.  If somebody falls for the Scam OP shows, I really doubt they would know how to use this verification webpage let alone know it even exists.

Binance has had many alerts and messages for Newbies to read, even about Scams.  This kind of Scam still working only shows that people never actually read.  It would be this easy.  Read and prevent.

You are right to warn us. Fake websites are getting harder to spot and social media makes it easy for scammers to share harmful links. To stay safe make sure you are on real website especially when looking for financial sites like Binance or Kucoin or Bybit. Here is what we can do. skip ads at  top of search results and find official site. Check website address carefully for small changes that might mean it is fake. Also turn on extra security checks and keep virus protection updated. By being careful and telling like this help others avoid losing money.

Thank you for sharing this. It is very alarming that they could advertise on behalf of a reputable business that doesn’t know they are being used in front of laypeople through ads. It should be verified when accepting ads like this. I believe that the platform, in whatever social media, should be thoroughly investigated and not just accepted because they are willing to pay.

I believe that the platform, in whatever social media, should be thoroughly investigated and not just accepted because they are willing to pay.
It looks like it was Facebook that OP found this Advertisement on.

Sure, I agree, all these platforms should take this kind of Scam Advertisements seriously.  But they do not, because they do not care.  I am pretty sure there are at the very least some bots that quickly verify Ads before publishing.  It is enough for a bot to see the word 'Binance' and then see the redirecting link is not the official webpage and the Ad would then either be immediately canceled or sent to a human to double check what is going on.

But this never happens.  They always slip through and there are always Cryptocurrency Scam Ads.  I understand when it is an ICO Scam, I mean what can you do.  It is the team behind an ICO publishing an Advertisement for their new 'Product'.  But impersonating Binance?  How can this slip through?

Some people will not listen. It is as simple as download the Binance app from the official website. All exchanges also works like that. If you access the exchanges on the web, you will see where you can download their apps when you are about to login. All these are easy to avoid but some people are just novice.

I don't think it's the novice but due to carelessness. Some people are not novice at all but they are just lazy to make due verification before interacting with links. Several times, it has been posted here before not to download any exchange app from random link but only from their official website. This forum has been on the fore front guiding people on the potential scam format and how to avoid it. Sadly, some people are not here to benefit from this vital information. Being security conscious is what you need to succeed in this space, it has no regards to you being novice or professional.

For sure majority of them is really a novice, but also we cannot erase those lazy people who usually don't read up the site or app linked below since what come up with them is their greed to earn some bonus by clicking the link provided by such post. To bad for people to fall in such obvious scheme since people might not show sympathy with them especially if they know that they have experience dealing with crypto but they are lazy to read that's why they experience those unfortunate hacking incident.

Being security cautious is really needed since we are not playing around. Our money is always involve on each action we do so we really need to look carefully if the site we are accessing is not going to compromise us. Also if we are doubting we can always ask people to know some info's that we want to know.

But the chances for a experience trader to fall for this trick might be small. As he or she could have known that this is trick already. I'm also from the Philippines and we all know that Binance is no longer accessible to us as the government ban it completely although there are news that they want to make a comeback.

So a newbie or novice will likely fall for this because of their carelessness and not verifying any. And as we have said here, don't trust but verify and this could be very well aptly in this kind of situation. Of course, we should not trust anyone and do not click any link and practice safety everytime.

People should know that platforms like Binance and other exchanges won't promote such additional things on social media from a random page. Usually, when platforms release their apps or some additional updates, they put the update on their main website homepage and send notifications to their customers. They sometimes send emails, but I would suggest not relying on emails because it is easy to spoof email these days. So, everyone should check the main website before they trust anything. Now, if someone says to download the latest Electrum wallet and provide me a link, should I download that? Nope. I should go to their website and download it from their official website.

If people will just aware on schemes used by these scammers for sure they will never fall on those cheap promotions those jerks did. But some people deprive theirselves to learn and want to shortcut everything that's why they forget to learn about other thing which is helpful then usually they fall as the victim of this schemes. If everyone just know how to verify for sure that they will never get scam by this fake websites. Also they would know on where to go if they want to ask some verification on what information they see online.

Binance has post many warnings regarding on this schemes https://www.binance.com/blog/security/know-your-scam-protect-yourself-from-binance-imposter-scams-8186206274508844717 and also here https://www.binance.com/en/square/hashtag/phishing

Research is important and they should not think about reading is just a waste of time for them.

These days its easy to run an advertisement into different social media platform just you have a budget for a specific number of days, and to those haven't aware about the binance desktop and newbie who would like to join in crypto and for sure some of them recommend the use of the binance and once they see this advertisement possible fall on it, personally if I saw a platform which is have a tag sponsored I doubt on it already.  Binance and PH already have a recent issue with the license operation so most of the people here didn't use binance platform at all.

Facebook need to assess things more carefully with stricter regulation before approving these advertisements on their platform.

If they already allowed advertisements that are scam, community can report scam advertisement to Facebook and wait for their response that is expected to take down scam advertisements as soon as possible.

How to report an ad on Facebook

2 words for these scammers. TRY AGAIN.
I wonder when will these scammers lure me. I mean I want myself to get scammed, but looking at how these scammers are doing it, it's way cheap, very cheap than what I expect. Why? Wink

Thanks OP. I believe these kinds of threads that are spreading awareness to newbies will help at least 1, 2 or even more. There might be some Binance users out there that saw this already but saw this awareness thread as well. Always, always be knowledgeable if you want to survive in this harsh world of cryptocurrencies. If you don't want to get scammed, always research first before investing, and downloading anything. Scammers are evolving (but I can't feel it because they can't scam me), so the best thing that we can do as an investor is to evolve as well and equip yourself with knowledge. Smiley

Unfortunately, Facebook might be doing their best to pin down these scam attempts, but it isn't enough to prevent it. At the end of the day, most of the social media platforms have the same problem, and it's up to us investors already if we will fall to them or not. Expect more of these in the future. Smiley

OP absolutely did justice here for putting up this thread. I could imagine the number of newbies that have already fallen victim of this fake exchange. Scammers could go to any extent to see how they could scam people of their resources and if one is not very careful and attentive, one could easily fall for this scam.

I think OP should be able to make this known beyond this platform, on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok, Reddit etc. so that newbies there can as well see it and have knowledge about the fake binance exchange so they do not fall prey of this scam exchange.

Also they would know on where to go if they want to ask some verification on what information they see online

Actually new people getting introduced to the crypto everyday and they are unaware of these scams. This is the reason those new peoples fall for the scams. It takes years to learn how crypto works and how these scammers operate their business. People have to learn the difference between real and fake things. Yet, most people believe the AI generated contents and they don't even understand that it's fake content.

Everyone should stay away of clicking any links they find on social media. Not only those advertisement, but the links they received from known friends. Because I have seen my known friends send me links to login on some phishings so they can access my account.
