A serious argument came up lately concerning bettors that bet for fun and those that bet for profit. 

As far as I am concerned, I always have the opinion that some people gamble so intensively for profit alone; that's why they easily get addicted, while a few people still gamble for fun. That being said, even those that are said to gamble for fun still feel happy when they win their bet and also feel upset when they lose money consecutive times on their bets, just like the people that gamble only for gains. 

Based on the argument that erupted lately, some persons said that those bettors that gamble for fun only bet on one or three matches, which is either their team or their favorite team.

Do anyone believe such an idea because I have not witnessed that any bettor gambling for fun only selected a few matches; even people that I know that claim to be betting for fun select more than 5 matches.

Every week I place a number of bets but my major bet is only on some selected teams I play always depending on who they meet. Some weeks it will come out maximum of five selections while some weeks it will be less than that but the slip is only for high probability teams like Bayern Munic that I bet on goals only. Apart from this main bet, I also select other teams that I play casually with small money and I don't really pay much attention to the outcome because it is a high risk bet composed of big odds.

The answer is YES. Of course you have to bet if you feel comfortable in a final result (I don't care if they win or they lose I want to have a profit).

People that don't want to place bets on their favorite team have of course good reason but professional gamblers can't have such strategies...

It's not like that in gambling, there are so many people who consider it fun even if they choose 10 teams in their parlay bet. It's just trying luck, not excessive addiction so I think people are free to do it as long as they don't become frustrated when they lose.

If frustration is always there, I admit like yesterday the favorite team lost and it made me become upset but only temporarily, the rest I am still happy.

I will consider addiction when finances become bad due to continuous gambling, if they can still overcome it then it is not addiction.

You will never see a gambler who does this only for fun emptying his account to recoup a loss but you will see this happening with 90% of the people who fall into the trap of chasing the loss to recover their money, while true professionals are rare as a snowbird in hell, probably less than 1%. And when I say professionals I mean people who play on exchanges and trade options betting, not ones who just follow some bets and try to make some $ out of it! I don't think I saw more than two people here playing on the soccer market and I know only one user who did so on horseracing!

This is definitely false, and the misleading thing in this is that most think of football when you have 30+ matches in the league plus if the team is good Europa League matches, and so on, but for others like me who are interested in horse racing, how would I bet only on my favorites when some horse run only 4-5 times a year?

Yes, I'm also of that belief, because you can't place a bet on a match that you are not going to have time to watch and still call it fun out of those games that you place a bet on that exceed the number of matches you will have time to watch.
 
Those games you consider your favourites are the ones you pick out of fun. The rest of the games are selected because of the profit you expect to win. Adding more games to increase the potential winning amount is for profit and not for fun.

I guess there is some truth to what was said, I mean, I rarely bet on sports and when I do bet I usually bet on the athlete or team that I like, support or am a fan of and usually only bet one or two matches but sometimes more. also, I am not really doing it for profit but it'll be awesome if I end up winning along with enjoying watching the match.

I would make a clear difference here... There are gamblers that try to make a profit like ANY OTHER business that can be trading or whatever.
Claiming that people that try to reach a profit are "addicted" is a big mistake.
Even me... I have won several competitions, and made a slight profit.
Of course I am gambling for profit (well I am not counting penny bets made for fun). This make me an addict!? Hell no!
There are people addicted even if they are not seeking a profit. They are playing up to lose all money...
If a gambler try to have a profit of course is not addict. Just some one that try to make money in some way.

If a player bets for fun, then three or two outcomes may be enough for him, in my opinion there is no dependence here. And it is quite logical that most of these bets are bets on a favorite club. For example, I often bet on my favorite club, but even taking into account that I try to bet with a profit, if I see that a bet against my club is profitable, then I will simply pass it by.

In my case, I have given greater priority to betting on the teams I like because I know the squad better compared to the other teams. This makes it easier when analyzing the games. For example, if Liverpool is going to play against Aston Villa. I know both teams, but I am a Liverpool fan, so I know more about Liverpool's squad and knowing that Salah, Diogo Jota, Luiz Diaz will not play, then I already know that Liverpool's attack will not be strong, for this reason I would not bet on Liverpool to win. There are many advantages to betting on teams that we are fans. but we can't bet only on the teams we are fans, because there are scenarios where the teams we are fans of are not doing well and the opponent is much better, in this case we have to bet on the opponent.

As an individual thing. No one feels happy when they lose in things they do, be it for fun or some other motive. Human beings as we are derive joy when we learn that the little things we do turn out successful. If it is gambling, let our predictions be correct(successful), not incorrect. That's the mindset of most people. Finding out they later lose to some bets is not easily accepted as human beings we are.

Talking about gamblers who gamble for fun for a few selected games, I hardly hear of that. What I do hear of is a gambler who stakes for a few selected games, with a huge amount, aiming for a potential payout from their bets. You will not call that fun bets because there's a target behind it, to make huge amounts from bets.

I think it shows how different people approach pairing. I understand what you say about gamblers who claim to bet for fun. But they still pick so many games—it's like they're still chasing the thrill of winning, though; They don't bet to make a profit. Most people may have a difficult time combining luck with their desire to win. Especially when money is involved. Even though starting from It's "just for fun," but it can quickly escalate as losses pile up.

The idea behind this is that recreational gamblers will place wagers only on one or three matches. I can see where that might be true for some people sticking by their favorite team or league. But I just don't know. I haven't really seen this happen with anyone. people i know Even though they say it's fun But many football bets are often simply made for the thrill of it. I think the lines get a little blurred between betting for fun and betting for profit. It just depends on who is investing and how. What do you guys think?

I agree that it is important to distinguish between profit and addiction. Simply because someone approaches gambling with a feeling of profit. Just like any other business or investment. This does not mean that they are addicted to gambling. Like you, many people are passionate about this. By setting boundaries and treating it as a matter of business Rather than being something that needs to be put on hold.

The lack of self-control is the closest relation that addiction finds. A person continues his or her play even after losing money. Sometimes, she or he can be irrational in order to get the next win. It does not matter if they are making a profit. It is rather about their behavior in the game.

I think it comes down to determination and discipline. If you gamble in a manner that is clearly for profit and to control your emotions. You are like someone who gambles compulsively. Whether he's profiting or not, it's a matter of balance and knowing your limits.

You can call it addiction when the person is down on finance and they are still borrowing or begging to bet. It's an addiction when you have to go and use your emergency fund to bet when you've exceeded your budget, because you desperately want to bet. Also, playing more than ten games. But if a gambler is betting for profit and decides to play ten games, fifteen games, and is within their budget, and they are not indebted, then it's okay. It's up to them. Everybody has a reason for doing things.

If you are betting for fun, that means you most likely bet on your favorite team because it's fun. You just want to see your team play and possibly win. But a gambler that is betting for profit, what you probably bet on is the team that has more potential to win at that game. You don't bet for profit with sentiments and emotions, when you see that your favourite team's opponent has stronger grounds and formation than them you bet on the stronger team.

For me, whether you play three games, five games, ten games, fifteen, twenty games, it's all your choice. You can play such amount for fun; you can also play it for profit. What matters is that you don't exhaust your budget and still go out of your way to beg or borrow for betting. It now becomes an addiction. I bet on the potential winning team more than my favorite team. If the potential winning team is my favorite team, then it's a win-win for me.

I am the type of gambler that bet on few matches because that is how I will be able to enjoy the fun since I love watching the matches. I don't bet on my team because as a gambler, I bet only on teams that I believe has the high odds of winning the game. This is because I also want to see how I can win my bet and for that reason I select the club carefully. I am a Manchester United fan; you know what that means if I bet on them.

The match selection depends on the gambler choice at the moment. There are somedays that when you see the list of clubs playing, you might choose to increase or reduce the number of matches that you will bet on.

For me, gambling is still gambling, in games there are no favorite teams or anything like that, you can win or lose depending on the game on the field, the favorite team doesn't guarantee that anyone will determine the win.
Example: yesterday the team was Man Utd vs Tottenham, generally many of my friends idolize Man Utd, the fact is that on the field Tottenham won absolutely with a score of 0-3, that's why the favorite team cannot be used as the main basis for betting.

However, to bet on your favorite team, it depends on your favorite team's opponent, you already know that a tiger is in front of you, but you still remain selfish, of course you will lose, so the situation for betting on your favorite team is adjusted to the situation and condition of your opponent.

Betting on your favourite team IMO is the best way to make profit. That means betting
for or even against your team. I thinking its the one you have most interest and knowledge
in and betting on other teams because of good odds for example may not yield a profit.

Having said the above it should also be possible to bet on any game regardless of
whether we follow them or not, if we do enough research on that team it makes
us more informed to bet for or against them!

We gamble for fun yet we still would like to earn profits, no gambler prefer to lose money all the time while gambling. Just that more gamblers prefer to bet on clubs that they know, likely the top leagues which gives them enough options to pick from to enable them make profits.

How many favourite team can we have? You hardly will alone bet on a single or three outstanding matches, instead you find other games to add in to increase the accumulator odds which does not have you as being addicted or gambling only for the profits.

Betting on many matches is a sign that a bettor is betting to make a profit, while bettors who play on less than 3 matches are clearly looking for fun, whether it is to support their favorite team or just for a side entertainment. I personally gamble for 2 purposes, profit & also entertainment, i'm a Real Madrid fan, and when they have a match, i definitely support Real Madrid by betting, sometimes i also bet on other teams that i think have a very good chance of making a profit.

In the last 15 bets that I have gone for, I selected more than 10 bets as just bets on a single match. I won such bets often. The remaining that I went for more than one match, I did not go beyond 3 and I lost such 2 times. I think I bet for fun but I do not like to lose which makes me to be prudent with spending while betting.

Today I went for seven matches which I can still call fun because I can afford to lose the money that I use for the bet. I did not go for favorite matches, I go for matches that I think I can win even if it is one match.

People do bet for several different reasons and this may be for fun or make money but which ever way they get to gamble, gambling on a favorite or particular team could actually not be enough reason to think some one is gambling for fun or to make money because for either reasons people can still gamble on a particular team or probably a few team but for the purpose, it remains best known to the gambler.

If you are gambling on a particular team either for fun or to make money, chances are that you may not achieve thr Result that will give you that fun satisfaction or help you make money and that is how gambling is, it's best to always keep a mind of probability around it and not to be completely confident be it for fun or to make money so the idea put forward by OP I think isn't completely true.
