I do not appreciate unsolicited PMs and I am sure most of you would feel the same. When those PMs are basically asking you to send money or invest in a project (or so-called project) then I find it extremely annoying.

Here is a PM I received a short while ago from a member I do not know and cannot recall ever interacting with. Foxpup has already left the PonderingCuriosity account with a negative tag for: Newbie sending unsolicited PM requesting funding for highly suspicious investment scheme.

How many members received the same or similar PM either from PonderingCuriosity or different account?

I have a bit of an unusual suggestion for you. What if we gathered some crypto to fund production of a remake of a certain underground cult anime?

I know, you just read this and you already hate me, because you hate remakes. No sensible person likes them! But... there is one very unpopular, but still - despite its unpopularity - a commercially successful anime that would only benefit from a remake - both commercially and non-commercially. I'm currently looking for funds to produce it.

Why remake that anime?

IT IS A PART OF A COMMERCIALLY SUCCESSFUL FRANCHISE - despite its unpopularity, it made a ton of money for its producers, especially through merchandise sales. Its figures still sell so well that many people learn about this anime through its merchandise, instead of the other way around. If a remake is made, it will likely generate no less profit.
IS IS A CULT ANIME DESPITE ITS UNPOPULARITY - indicative of its high quality, it gets as much attention from its niche fanbase as mainstream cult anime get from the general public (including the amount of money spent on merchandise). The quality and quantity of fan analyses for this anime compare to fan analyses of Neon Genesis Evangelion, one of the most critically acclaimed anime in the history. No other anime fandom is this small and this loyal.
IT NEVER GOT THE DESERVED ATTENTION - due to an incompetent marketing campaign, this anime was made for adults but gathered an audience of kids and teenagers, who were mostly not old enough to enjoy it. It naturally selected the most mature of them as its most loyal fans, but at the cost of remaining unpopular. Even people who don't like it tend to agree that it deserves way more attention. A remake with a competent marketing campaign will fix this problem.
IT HAS FLAWS THAT HAVE TO BE CORRECTED - while this show is a masterpiece, it is a masterpiece in the same way Neon Genesis Evangelion is: not devoid of problems, it required The End of Evangelion to fix them. The problems in its writing, production and marketing all have to be addressed in a remake.
IT WAS TOO AHEAD OF ITS TIME - it does not even look this old as it is. It uses animation technologies available back in the day in a way you never saw. It foreshadowed the further creative success of its authors who later made other, more popular, cult anime. It was probably just a bit too ahead of its time.
THE TIME HAS FINALLY CAUGHT UP AFTER IT - an unique event that preceded and inspired the creation of this anime is going to happen again, and it would be just right in time to produce a remake shortly after, just like this anime was produced back in the day.

If you are interested - whether it is profit motive or only genuine curiosity at this point - ask me and I will send you the name of the anime along with a short Slides presentation that explains what makes it unlike other anime, and the best Nyaasi torrent where you can download it from. I strongly recommend you to make it your next watch because this is one of the works of cinema (not just anime - cinema in general!) that makes viewers regret not watching them earlier.

Yeh, I received the email and considered creating a flag (but given how many Woke users soil themselves when I do, I figure I'll just post *neutral* trust feedback at this point).

The composer of the email probably targeted DT1 users such as myself.

I actually considered making a thread like this one at the time, but decided it wasn't really worth it. Just red paint and move on, even if it does make me "the most mean person on this forum". I did stop short of calling it a straight-up scam, since I can't actually prove it is one; what more does he want? I'm honestly not sure what other response he was expecting, sending a PM like that to DT members. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

I read the PM hours ago and just ignored the PM as it looked like a scheme from the start. Likely wouldn't be interested either way, but I think it would have been more genuine had they made a post vs thinking a pm was smart.

Well, he did not mention anything directly except make references to anime. All in all, I think he wants to spread malware to as many DT as possible therefore it could be a case of a member or former member that might have a grudge against certain or all DT members, or maybe the forum itself or the forum admin and he is using the PM to create problems via the torrent file.

Your feedback was apt because you did stop short of calling him a scammer. It had no effect on him though as it was placed in the middle of last month yet here he is sending me a PM yesterday (three weeks later). It seems difficult to believe during that interim he stayed inactive, either took a pause before returning or he must have been sending out PMs in limited amounts in an attempt order to avoid being noticed.

That looks to be the aim, trying to get as many DT members to download the torrent file. I sincerely hope nobody clicked any links of they did engage with him but it would be very interesting if for the sake of reference we actually know what the URL was.

Anime, as far as I know, is animation that originates from Japan, in short, it's like a kind of animated cartoon image, whether that's what the spammer means, I don't know either, what is clear is the meaning of the word Anime/animation.

Meanwhile, cults, as far as I know, are thirsty for power, can be called activities carried out for personal gain.
If you combine Anime-Cult, it can be interpreted as (Thirsty animation will become power).

I also received the same PM, although honestly, I didn't even read everything in that message. A wall of text from an unknown user who needs to convince me of something I hadn't thought about before...
Instead of leaving a negative tag, I just reported it to the moderators. I assume that I am not the only one and that some kind of sanctions will come from there.

I received a PM from this user and immediately saw the red trust. So I also ignored the wall of text. But seeing that a topic was created about this, I realized that this fraud was not prepared by chance.
I want to understand how great the stupidity of such "entrepreneurs" is when such offers are not even aimed at beginners but are distributed to those who are experienced and will never fall for such a scam.

On this curiosity, I have seen from this thread that they sent the message to selected people who they perceived are reputable members of the forum. I mean scammers target the highly vulnerable and not experts. Maybe I'll revisit the message and read again.

I think the word anime was used as the focal point that the spammer probably assumed would be sufficient enough to generate clicks. Exactly what is/was contained within the torrent file (just as his motive for sending) is unknown.

Maybe you will be on his list when he starts the whole spamming cycle again using a new account because this PonderingCuriosity account is no longer going to work for him.

I do not think he edited the wall of text, he copied it and sent it to as many DT members as he could. I was thinking maybe the reason he did it was because he was holding a grudge against the forum over something that might have happened to one of his accounts getting tagged. That could be why he created a new account to try to get back at DT members.

I hope nobody contacted him and downloaded the file he was trying to promote and instead reported the PM as spam.
