How does Satoshi's anonymity affect the trust of users and investors in the Bitcoin network? Can this anonymity be considered an asset or a drawback for the legitimacy of the cryptocurrency?
It is precisely with anonymity that bitcoin continues to grow until now and even for the future, anonymity is not always negative so that it cannot be trusted, sometimes anonymity is needed to increase public trust like Satoshi now who is still a mystery in this century.

According to some crypto communities, Satoshi Nakamoto does not exist, because it is very dangerous if Satoshi Nakamoto appears to the public with the creation of a very massive technology. Satoshi Nakamoto is a translation of a unique cryptographic code. If described in words, this code is what keeps blockchain/bitcoin technology alive and growing until now, that's what is said. Satoshi and bitcoin will remain a mystery.

How does Satoshi's anonymity affect the trust of users and investors in the Bitcoin network? Can this anonymity be considered an asset or a drawback for the legitimacy of the cryptocurrency?

Well, I feel like there are some very obvious reasons like privacy and safety security etc. then there is also the possibility that some nation state could apprehend him to try and disband Bitcoin or something (maybe this could have been the case before all the institution money came in). It’s all pretty simple reasoning.

I believe in the future, we will know who he really is and the reasoning behind. For now, be grateful that we have this crypto market and blockchain tech that is revolutionizing a lot of things in how humanity is doing their businesses. Whatever his reason is, we are already benefiting from this market.

It is also getting quite tiresome because most of it is speculation without any shred of evidence, so most of the discussions about him are baseless theories that lead nowhere, and since that is the case my interest on them is nonexistent, after all Satoshi not only hid his identity very well, but at the same time his identity is not really important, since bitcoin as a project now exists as an independent entity that cannot be brought down no matter what the governments try to do to stop people from adopting it.

That actually is the point here, we don't need to look for Satoshi's identity in order for this market to thrive. As we have seen, this technology are conquering mainstream without his identity involved. So we can speculate all we want but as we have witnessed, this market will continue to proliferate even without his identity known to public.

Satoshi’s anonymity is actually a bit of a double-edged sword when it comes to cryptocurrency. Being a decentralized and the abscence of Satoshi makes it more trusted by the public because it's unknown and it's not related to any politics.

Of course if a person who controls a crypto is with politics, it can affect it, their politics decision might affect the cryptocurrency that will make it very useless, not tradable and prone to market manipulation.

On the other hand, some people might feel uneasy about it. Not knowing Satoshi’s identity can raise questions about intentions, not fully trusting it because they might lose money. So yahh, Satoshi's anonymity is a huge part for the crypto community.

Really? but Bitcoin has politics in there because any improvement, change or update are depends on majority pools. So, it depends on their decision, hopefully they're always make decision by thinking about Bitcoin's purpose and it's longevity instead of their own benefit.

I believe in the future, we will know who he really is and the reasoning behind. For now, be grateful that we have this crypto market and blockchain tech that is revolutionizing a lot of things in how humanity is doing their businesses. Whatever his reason is, we are already benefiting from this market.
Or maybe he will appeared not in our generations, so we will know Satoshi as completely unknown person.

If could be like an impossible things to do that, if he or if the team won't reveal themselves and here I don't have any expectations about their revelation. So I so there was high probability of not knowing that who is man "satoshi" . But there is a chance that the world is getting more technology day by day as well as human intelligence is getting more and more, from this point of view maybe one day it might be possible. But here things are also very complicated that even then if we found or saw these kind of news even they will real there will be a high number of people that they will be still in doubt.

But my point is, aren't the bitcoin the invention of cryptocurrency is an revolutionary? Isn't it gave us the financial freedom? So why should we be so worried about the intently of the Satoshi? If the trillion-dollar market goes up and sustain without the identity of Satoshi then why do we need that.

Satoshi might be died and we won't know and that makes me believe that Satoshi can never be found.

I think there's no one that know who Satoshi is because if there was, they would have betrayed him since, for the reward that the federal government will be offering. Satoshi knows that if he reveals his identity, it's going to affect the market and the growth of Bitcoin hence he choose to stay anonymous forever and that's the best thing he can do.

I'm just going to bump my part of the thread here and say that nobody has thus far given me a compelling refutation of my theory that Satoshi was/is a CIA/NSA/FBI agent (or team) who created Bitcoin as a honey pot device that got out of hand. I have about as much positive evidence as any other theory here, but... it sure explains a lot...  Smiley

Well, in the first place no one knows if He is alive or not, human or not? But as you said, let's be grateful because we had additional knowledge or an opportunity to have a solution to our financial problem that we have been facing for a long time in our lives. We have also seen bitcoin's relentless progress.

A lot of people criticized it, and countries tried to control it, but they couldn't do it because they thought wrong about Bitcoin, which, until now, instead of reducing those who believe in it, the number of those who embrace the potential has increased even more.

Assumption without evidence proofs he doesn't exist because what can you use to judge his existence, not like his supposed "claimed" wallet has been moved a while, it's not like there has been a developer who pass BIP are anonymous, most of them are known atleast by the community for some safety and security of the network but none proof to be Satoshi. If only there is Satoshi by my own assumption, then it can only be a group of people who decide to make it looks this way.

Satoshi knows that if he reveals his identity, it's going to affect the market and the growth of Bitcoin hence he choose to stay anonymous forever and that's the best thing he can do.

There were people on this forum that started early with him and would have make it easy back then to know much more about Satoshi but they refused not to do it. There was a time the administrator wanted to share the IP address login of Satoshi on the Bitcointalk but some reasons due to privacy, they refused and it's obvious we know why they didn't.  If really Satoshi is going to be betrayed, I'm sure there would be lead many years before now but because the people that were here understand the mission and they have carried it along with them. Bitcoin will remain Bitcoin with or without Satoshi.

I agree with that. Gaining knowledge should be the first and foremost step for anyone before they get involved with Bitcoin or cryptocurrencies in general.

For those who have taken the time to learn about bitcoin and understand the purpose of satoshi's creation of bitcoin, they will feel satisfied that satoshi's identity remains unknown. Because this is not only good for his safety but also good for bitcoin. Because this is not only good for his safety but also good for bitcoin, and that is why you see that most people here do not want Satoshi to appear or his identity to be revealed.

Satoshi's identity revelation might temporarily affect Bitcoin, its price, or its reputation, but it won't be permanent. I'm sure people will forget about everything and start using Bitcoin normally again after some time. Those who are using Bitcoin for what it has to offer, such as decentralization, easy peer-to-peer transactions, security, and anything else wouldn't stop using it only because satoshi's identity has been revealed which barely has any possibility of happening anyway.

Those who feel uncomfortable and distrustful of bitcoin just because they don't know the identity of its creator are ignorant of bitcoin. And if they don't have knowledge about bitcoin, it's best they don't invest in it because it won't do them any good either.

I agree with that. Gaining knowledge should be the first and foremost step for anyone before they get involved with Bitcoin or cryptocurrencies in general.

Yeah, everybody uses many devices and inventions knowing nothing about their creators except their names - yet they won't do the same thing with crypto.
Their loss, really.

I totally agree there - the biggest concern would be for Satoshi himself, what he would do afterward, and how entities of different scales would react to knowing who he is and where to dig.

How does Satoshi's anonymity affect the trust of users and investors in the Bitcoin network? Can this anonymity be considered an asset or a drawback for the legitimacy of the cryptocurrency?
I think op is trying to compare with other mini projects where the brain behind the projects are expected to be made known but the reverse is the case with bitcoin as the anonymity of satoshi has built more trust in the community as it is believed that, it is decentralized and can’t be controlled by one individual not even satoshi himself , leaving everyone with speculations and predictions.

Personally I think the anonymity of bitcoin is key to maintaining the decentralized nature of the coin, hence answering to your question, we’ll tag it an asset .

Maybe he want to emphasize that those devs which transparent on their identity is more trusted. And to many things puzzled him and he cannot fully trust bitcoin since  the identity of the creator remain unknown. But people should know that despite of those things the identity of the owner doesn't affect the current stand of bitcoin. Many people still adapt or accumulate its because they know that bitcoin is good asset. Many has been curious to know the reason of deciding to be anonymous, but majority just don't care about it and want to respect the creators decision on things he want to do.

I think one thing that has kept bitcoin at the lime light is the strong community they have because I think among all projects, bitcoin has one of the largest and most supportive community of users who trust the coin even without knowing the where about of the originator.

At the point, there shouldn’t be any need wanting to get bothered by the presence of the originator because bitcoin has proven on several occasions to be trustworthy and ready to deliver, hence rather than been bothered about satoshi, we should be thankful to him for his inventions and be bothered about how much more to get actively involved in the entire process.

That will just put Satoshi in danger because many agencies will be after him. Not just his safety but also his relatives and families safety. We don't know what is the reason why Satoshi doesn't reveal his identity to the public so we can only guess. I think Satoshi will not show himself/themselves to public and will still remains in the dark. That is the best thing that Satoshi can do to prevents from the bad things that can happens to Satoshi.

Smiley

Why would Satoshi be a CIA/NSA agent? It doesn't make any sense. Especially when BTC was created as an open source cryptocurrency. Do you believe the government would be stupid enough to release the code to the public? It would help spur the development of alternative currencies, posing a threat to the very existence of Fiat currencies (especially the US Dollar).

Satoshi is more of an average person with libertarian values. Or a team of cypherpunks with a high-level IQ. It could be a combination of Nick Szabo, Hal Finney, David Chaum, Wei Dai, and Peter Todd. We'll never know for sure. I think it's for the best. If Satoshi's identity were known, he/she/they would've been in big trouble by now. Governments will be on his/her/their tail to either fine, execute, or jail him/her/them. Leaving Satoshi's identity a mystery, will ensure that people will focus on what matters most. And that's using Bitcoin to be their own bank. The pioneer cryptocurrency has been doing fine up to this point, so I'm certain it will live for generations. Here's hoping for the best. Cheesy

Why wouldn't they? The CIA is not in the business of making money from software, they do stuff to gather intel on people.

And while Bitcoin nor anything else "threatens" the USD (that doesn't even make sense), why would some worker at the CIA care about that?

Right. Just like "FunGirl79" in the chat room is a 14 year old from Minnesota not, say, a 42 year old FBI agent trying to catch online creepos.  Smiley

Are you aware that the CIA/NSA/etc. actually... lie sometimes?  Cheesy
