There is this dude Dave Ramsey, and I do enjoy his "7 steps" program, makes sense to be fair. He says, the steps are like this; First you save a thousand dollars, wherever you live, could be a poor nation, thousand dollars could be a lot, that's what the first step is.

Secondly you pay every debt you have aside from the mortgage on your house (and for this case, if you do not have a house, I guess taking out a loan to buy a house would be the next step).
