Wait...  The ones at Geeks are refurbished too?  They listed them as "new".  I just bought 40 of those from Geeks but haven't received them yet.

Yeah...  up to 32 x 6970s, 20 x 5870s, 6 x 5970s.  Started expanding into the garage (which is where the other 40 will go).

Insanity.  If someone would have told me I'd be doing this 6 months ago, I would have said they were crazy.

yeah bro... kinda sucks that you picked up there're remaining stock, i went back monday looking for one more -but they were 'out of stock' by then. I've been running the two 5870's i got from them (geeks.com) and havent had any problems yet, although one of the card is running a little warm (82c) -other card is steady at 77c. both cards OC'd 50mhz.

Actually, because I ordered so many, they called me to confirm each order (and made me fill out a credit card authorization form).  While I was on the phone to confirm the order of the initial 32 cards, they said that they had just a little over 120 left.  The next day, the price on their website went to 171 and a few hours later they were out of stock.  They went quickly...  I planned on ordering some more.  Sad

I envy you... Here in Brazil, each 5870 costs U$350,00. The most simple model!

I must send mails to Japan (mojostech - 5870) to try to get one as gift for U$250,00 and wait a month before start mining... And it is too risk because my country is a huge shit, at customs authorities and at all.

There is only two things that I like in Brazil, regular people (friends / family / womens) and the nature...

Please, if someone in U.S. could buy/send one 5870 to me, I pay U$180.00~U$200.00, if you can send it to me as a gift.

I could buy at least one 5870 every 15 days.

I can pay with Bitcoins! Of course!  Wink

Cheers,
Thiago

Ah ha. I also noticed one of my cards being about 5-10 degrees hotter than the others, so I whipped out a BIOS editor and took a look. Not only did that one card have a different checksum then the other 3 that I looked at, it also had previously had its BIOS replaced with a modded one, according to the tool I was using.
Speaking of this...  I had to update a BIOS today too.  One of the cards that I received ended up not being stable.  It would boot, but as soon as the miner started, the machine would hang.  I hooked up video and ran an OpenGL screensaver.  There were artifacts.

It turns out that AMD changed the stock voltage on the 5870s after bios revision 003 (I think it's 003).  It went from 1.1625 to 1.175.  On this card, they de-soldered/re-soldered the GPU (I could see the light haze from the flux and the chip had been written on).  This chip probably didn't "bin" as well as the original chip that was on it.  Since they left the lower voltage BIOS on there, it was unstable.  Flashed the BIOS to 1.175 and everything is fine now.

Hope this helps someone.  If you need the newer BIOS version for a card, just send me a PM.

Also, the contact point on the heatsink on this 2nd batch of refurbs is *much* better than the last.  This one is a larger square that someone hit with a lathe.  It's perfect.

What version do you have? I have 107 from techpowerup, but I have no way of knowing whether that is the latest or how their numbering system works. I sent a ticket to AMD, but have heard nothing back (as expected, sadly).

107 is what came with most of my cards.  101 was what was on the unstable card.  The fixed card has been mining stable now for about 12 hours (like a boss).

Good to know. I ordered two, one is fine, the other hangs under any load (mining or gaming). I figured on returning it but I'll check the ROM / voltage.

Thiago.  I may be able to do one for $250 USD in BTC shipped from the USA, if you're interested.

I bought it from the link in the OP (bensoutlet) and it was shipped from onesaleaday.    I only took it out of the box to examine it and have not used it at all.  If you are interested, I can post a picture with my name written on a piece of paper next to the card.

I have two positive feedback reviews in the honest-traders section for selling gemstones to buyers in California and Canada.

I can either start mining with it right away and keep it or sell for $250 unused which will allow me to buy another one.

But, if I sell I will have to wait for shipping and will miss out on the profits I could have generated in that time.

And, it would be at least a good week before I would receive a new one that I bought online (if I can even find one at the same price, free shipping is nice).

He doesn't have to buy it if he doesn't want to.   Shipping to Brazil via USPS priority mail was about $44 when I checked.  Then, factor in the cost of gas for driving to and from the post office, and the actual amount of time doing it (which is valuable to me in its own right), and I only stand to make about $20-55 off the thing, depending on how you look at it.

Offer is on the table, and it is within the price range that he proposed.
