I have been in crypto since early 2022 and most of my time I have been investing in altcoins.
The only time I was buying Bitcoin was when it fell to bear market lows around $15k and I sold it all for more altcoins when it reached $30k.
When I first got into crypto, Bitcoin was $42k and I now realize had I just stuck with Bitcoin only during the whole bear market I would be a lot better off now at this current time as I now understand that Bitcoin pumps first in the bull run.
My current portfolio is +23% but had I been in Bitcoin it would probably be around +200%. There is however more room now for altcoins to grow for the rest of this bull run and I am still hoping to have a great bull run with my altcoins.
I got lucky with one of my altcoins that gave me a 30x return in the first quarter of 2024 but if i didn't have that then my portfolio would be a lot worse.
I am just wondering when the next bear market comes in 2026, would it just be best to dollar cost average into Bitcoin every week and forget about altcoins until the next bull run starts in 2028?

Why the wait?, you can jump right in and start to DCA, it doesn't take much since you're not new to crypto. You've seen it yourself that you would've been more profitable if you held on to Bitcoin and not fucking around with plenty altcoins. Doing DCA comes with a lot benefits than just buying Bitcoin, it helps you uphold financial discipline, manage your finances better and even set an accumulation target to secure your financial future by yourself. You can still save part of your discretionary income to lump sum on the next dip and buy more stashes at cheaper prices.
Secondly, you've to know that Bitcoin is a long-term journey and you need hold for at least 4 -10 years or more before thinking about shaving off profits or selling as you may decide in order to be really profitable. The choice is yours, But I think you should know that Bitcoin has the potential to give you good profits more than any shitcoin or altcoins can ever attempt, but it's better on a long term investment journey to achieve that.

You should understand that altcoins can be on a bull run but the altcoin you may have purchased is dipping, there is no guarantee that all altcoins would do well in any bull run that's the downside to investing in random altcoins.
My personal view about Bitcoin is that if you want to invest then maybe you should try investing long term and be disciplined at that. Earlier this year we expected a Bitcoin bull run but after the halving some of those expectations dropped only to have Bitcoin settings a new all time high not too long ago. It is imperative you avoid FOMO and FUD while investing what you can bear to lose.

Yes Bitcoin is currently up 34% in the last month, but I have a few altcoins that are up over 100% during that time.

Trading and hodling are two different things. People trade bitcoin as well as people also HODL bitcoin too and the fact is it's all about what you can handle and what you are willing to do. Trading crypto has more profit over a short term if you make use of a good leverage compared to hodling crypto. The difference is approach and risk margin. If you are willing to risk more to make more profit in a relatively short period of time then you can go for trading.
Hodling for me bitcoin hodling to be precise is just a simple form of investment where you don't have to stress yourself I any technical analysis or market strategies unlike your regular crypto trading.

As a newbie I see other shitcoins though can give you a good return in a short period of time but not like Bitcoin. Bitcoin is the most hyped asset at the moment and a lot of people are investing in Bitcoin now. If you had invested in Bitcoin fully since 2022 then I think you would have been able to be a good profit partner today. From the beginning to the middle of 2022 Bitcoin price was around $50,000 to a maximum of $60,000. Again due to the market price fall it came down to around $17,000 towards the end this was mainly due to the fall of FTX crypto exchange. And I think with Bitcoin reaching this lowest level you are leaning towards altcoin. Just think if you had invested in Bitcoin in 2022 then you would have owned the highest whale today.

Diversification of investment has always been a speculative preach for investors here and there's no just time staying back and waiting for a bear before you can buy your coin especially when you're Investing on potential coins as bitcoin. You'd either regret while waiting for bear market to come because even when you buys at the bull run, of course along the run you can still make some tangible profits. Then you could wagger on Dca down to your anticipating bear market. Remember the next move of the markets can't be predictable.

I have been in crypto since early 2022 and most of my time I have been investing in altcoins.
I hope that you learned something valuable in a bear market because many facts will be revealed in a bear market, not in a bull market. The only time I was buying Bitcoin was when it fell to bear market lows around $15k and I sold it all for more altcoins when it reached $30k.
Did you regret about that decision? When I first got into crypto, Bitcoin was $42k and I now realize had I just stuck with Bitcoin only during the whole bear market I would be a lot better off now at this current time as I now understand that Bitcoin pumps first in the bull run.
In a bear market, altcoins fall down more seriously than Bitcoin, and in a next bull market, Bitcoin breaks out and makes its new all time high first. Altcoins, most of them die in a bear market, and surviving altcoins mostly fail to make their new all time highs. Cryptocurrency Historical Data Snapshot can help you to see how risky altcoins are.

I am currently holding 18 altcoins and all of them have survived as we go into this bull run so I dont agree with most altcoins die in bear market. Maybe altcoins outside the top 200? Most of the altcoins i hold are in the current top 150.

You're lucky that you 30x your money in a single altcoin. Another one is that the altcoins that can give this kind of returns are mostly those low market cap ones, so I assume that the token that gave you this kind of return is a low market cap one. Will not be surprised if it's a meme coin as well. Your plan is what I can say as "good plan" because like you, I'm planning to do the same as well. Like you, I'm holding some altcoins as well and although I didn't get a 30x return like you do, I'm planning to sell all of my altcoins as well and will buy some Bitcoin during the bear market. In terms of profitability, it depends on what coin you bought as well. If you bought a low market cap altcoin, that could give you a higher return compared to Bitcoin. On the flip side, if you bought something like Ethereum or even BNB, I think it's pretty obvious that Bitcoin will give much better profits. As for your question though, why choosing between Bitcoin and altcoins if you can invest in both of them. At the end of the day, if you invested during the bear market, there's a high chance that you will end up in profit when you sell it during the bull market.

Yes, but make sure that the price of bitcoin has fallen very well. I think if bitcoin does not surpass $150000, you can wait and start DCA around $60000. If the all-time high does not surpass $100000, you can start to DCA at $40000. But the time you will start to DCA will depend on the all-time high which we do not know yet now.

Why the excitement for the bear market? Let’s enjoy the bull run while it lasts..your altcoin portfolio might even see some solid growth this time around. Investing in altcoins is always a high-risk, high-reward game. Most of them are trash, copycats, or purely hype-driven, like meme coins. But if you’re riding the wave for profits, they’re not meant for long-term holding like Bitcoin. Just time your entry and exit right, and you’ll come out fine, that's the only strategy.

The altcoin that gave me a 30x return was Arcblock and when i first bought it end of last year it was around $15m market cap. I took profit on the way up to it reaching $4.65 earlier this year but still holding half of my original bag as I believe it will go past $10 this bull run. I am just an ordinary guy, I didnt have big money coming into this bear market just gone so felt I had to take a risk with altcoins and I am expecting my risk to pay off next year when the bull run peaks. My plan is to then play is safer by buying a lot more Bitcoin in 2026 and 2027 bear market when I have more capital to invest.

I will still continue to invest in altcoins next bear market, just plan on making Bitcoin a much bigger part of my portfolio then.

Yes Bitcoin is currently up 34% in the last month, but I have a few altcoins that are up over 100% during that time.
the issue here is that at the start it's almost uncertain which of the altcoin you're holding will be up to the range of 100% and if you're unlucky, you might end up holding an altcoin or a meme coin that will end up diping after holding it for a said numbers of months. Maybe because you've stayed long in the crypto space and have gotten used to altcoins and can easily predict which altcoin can do well, you can spot out a few and at the end, it might do that well. That for others and including myself looks too technical and a bit risky to try out as opposed to sticking to Bitcoin. The ease that comes with holding Bitcoin makes it a preferable option even though it doesn't always become as volatile as some altcoins. At the end, you've got to choose between potential quick volatility and holding Bitcoin that gives you the sense of Certainty that even after buying and it DIP, it will still get bullish after you've accumulated it for the long term. Except I have excess budget that will allow me invest a percentage of my allocation on altcoin, on a normal, I will prefer to invest in Bitcoin during the bear rather than in an altcoin.

That’s definitely the safest investing strategy, allocate 50% to Bitcoin and spread the other half across altcoins you believe have potential. The idea is simple: if one of those altcoins does a x100, it could save your entire portfolio and even make it highly profitable. But don’t forget, the amount you invest matters. Make it a decent amount because opportunities like this don’t come around often, and you don’t want to miss out on this bull run. Planning ahead is great, but what if the bear market doesn’t come for another year? What if this bull run lasts longer than expected? You should also have a game plan to maximize your profits during the bull run, especially now that we haven’t seen an altcoin surge yet. Be Flexibility..

The price of Bitcoin influences the price of other altcoins. Since you fail to invest in Bitcoin, you have to wish for the price of Bitcoin to reach 100k so that your portfolio can grow. Or you start investing in Bitcoin with the little you can afford to invest. Your portfolio will grow either way you choose to go about it. Let me put your mind on the right part. Just know that there is no late entry to invest in Bitcoin. Every benefit you see people who have invested in since is because they took a point in time as an opportunity. You can take this market condition as a good opportunity to start investing and reap the benefits in the picture. Rather than missing out now and then. I am just wondering when the next bear market comes in 2026, would it just be best to dollar cost average into Bitcoin every week and forget about altcoins until the next bull run starts in 2028?
How certain are you that there will be a bear market in 2026? If you know all this, why did you invest in altcoins instead of investing in Bitcoin? No one is certain what will be the price of Bitcoin/market condition now or in the future, it's all about speculation. You don't have to look at market conditions before you start investing. I don't think you are ready yet, you prefer the altcoins to investing in Bitcoin, if not you would have to start investing in Bitcoin now.

I have learned that it is worth buying Bitcoin during the lows of a bear market and I now have a much better understanding of how the 4 year cycle works.
To make it easier, I took a screenshot but you visit coinmarketcap, click on Customize, and choose Price, then choose From ATH. I only chose Price from ATH, volume, marketcap, no more metrics to make it simple visually. https://coinmarketcap.com/The market is bullish in 2024 and was warmed up previously in 2023, now you can see many altcoins are still down and far from their ATHs in a previous market cycle. Performances of Bitcoin and altcoins in last two years are enough to inform you that Bitcoin is safer and better than altcoins.

Up till now. But let’s see at the peak of the bull run. Bitcoin maybe do another 100% move from current price to peak of bull run? Altcoins will do 10x, 20x , 50x and even 100x.

Let's wait for it, and if you read my post carefully, you will see that I emphasize in previous market cycles, many altcoins either died or failed to make their new all time highs. If they fail to make their new ATHs, what do you expect with 10x, 20x, 50x or even 100x? It is nearly impossible with old altcoins, and if you are looking at new altcoins that were launched in this market cycle like in 2024, they're new and vulnerable altcoins to be hacked, and might die in a next bear market. They don't worth to try, risk is high, and potential profit looks to be not too good.

If you love trading or gambling, continue with your altcoins but don't regret it when you will be disappointed in these altcoins that you claim to be more profitable if you keep holding them. If you want a long-term investment for your future, then invest in bitcoin and grow your portfolio with DCA weekly or monthly and hodli for long. Majority of those altcoins when the next bear market comes might not be able to recover from the market.
