Webcam for PC Sparrow that can recognize Blockstream Jade’s QR codes

I am opening this thread to help people out who are looking for a webcam that can recognize Blockstream Jade’s QR codes so that it works air-gapped with Sparrow on a PC.

This includes xpub and PSBT export (Sparrow as watch-only) and signing transactions.

I couldn’t find any specifc info on the web which camera would work.

Test results:

1. With my cheapo webcam (720p, fixed focus), Sparrow (Windows) did not recognize Jade’s QR codes.

2. In contrast, with the Logitech c920e, Sparrow had no problems recognizing Jade’s QR codes and everything worked just fine.

The main thing seems to be that the c920e has auto focus.

My cheapo cam only produces a sharp image at a specific distance, which appears to be too far away for Jade’s small QR codes.

Given they are of a similar quality and also have auto-focus, I believe (haven’t tested them), the Logitech c920s, c920x,  c922, and c930 could work as well.

Do you have experience with these and other webcams (both auto-focus and fixed focus) and setups?

I’d be glad if you could chime in.

You could also use your old smartphone connected via cable to your computer as a camera, this should work fine in 99%.
Also cameras on most laptops should work ok,except if laptop and better than external cameras.

QR codes can be a problem, even if they look good in theory, and not only for Jade and other hardware wallets.
Few times I could not scan addresses with QR codes on some websites, so I had to manually copy-paste them.
There are many different QR standards, and this is a mess if you research it a bit deeper.

Screen being scanned / camera being used / wallet being used.

Combine them all and at time it will drive you nuts trying to figure out what will and will not scan with what and why.

Just something to keep in mind.
