Hi everyone,

The festive season is here! 🎄
Why not surprise your loved ones with the gift of Bitcoin 🎁?

This unique idea might raise a few questions, since Bitcoin isn’t a physical asset:

How can you gift Bitcoin as easily as handing over cash?
How can you ensure the gift doesn’t rely on a trusted third party (no seed phrases, no PIN codes...)?
How can you share Bitcoin with someone who may not be familiar with this technology?

Here are a few simple solutions:

- the good old paper wallet - require you to have an offline computer, a paper wallet generator (preferably not corrupted  Grin) and a printer

Pros:
-- Free
-- Easy to do

Cons:
-- You have to find a good keypair generator that allow a strong entropy
-- You see the private key at some point
-- Weak support

- the original Opendime

Pros:
-- Easy to setup
-- Reliable - I'd like it to be 100% open source

Cons:
-- Must be destroyed to reveal the private key - so the gift does'nt exist anymore...
-- The support is a bit geeky
-- No mobile option - can only be used on a computer

- the evolved Satscard

Pros:
-- Easy to setup
-- Reliable - I'd like it to be 100% open source
-- The card form factor is a plus!

Cons:
-- Can only be used 10 times

- the new disruptive Satodime

Pros:
-- Easy to setup
-- 100% open source, that's a very good point
-- The card form factor is a plus!
-- Can be re-used forever
-- Mobile and desktop support

Cons:
-- Look like it supports shitcoins

What do you think about this topic? How will you give the gift of Bitcoin this Christmas?

Very easy mate if you want to give someone Bitcoin you ask them for their Bitcoin wallet address or if it's a surprise you find a way to get their wallet address and send them the Bitcoin and if there aren't yet into Bitcoin you talk to them about it help them to understand what Bitcoin is all about, help them set up a wallet address and then you can gift them Bitcoin. Gifting Bitcoin should not be complicated.

How can you gift Bitcoin as easily as handing over cash?

I get in some of your answers and they are helpful, but we may also have to consider the coin in question, bitcoin may not be treated exactly the same way as physical fiat or cash, because its entirely digital, therefore we may only adopt any means that can help the targeted recipient find it interesting to receive bitcoin as Christmas gift in physical, maybe we can dive into the Casascius bitcoin and the like which are physical bitcoin and other requests like that of the use of paper wallet for gifting bitcoin and solving of puzzles to get reward in bitcoin on users bitcoin address and many more.

How can you share Bitcoin with someone who may not be familiar with this technology?

We may first need to share them with the idea of bitcoin and they have to understand what  bitcoin is and how they can make use of it, this will make them not to receive bitcoin and then later lose it for not been aware of some certain things about handling it, when we gift them, we should be ready to teach them, or we teach before we gift them bitcoin.

I really like the idea of a puzzle—solving it to access the funds sounds both fun and engaging. A seed phrase puzzle could be a unique twist!
However, it raises an important question about trust. If I know the seed phrase, how can the recipient fully trust me? After all, Bitcoin is built on the principle of trustlessness, right?
I still love the concept, though. It’s creative and intriguing, and I’m definitely going to explore it further!

The festive season is here! 🎄
Why not surprise your loved ones with the gift of Bitcoin 🎁?
This is a great opportunity to introduce your loved ones to bitcoin - give btc as a gift, which will not look intrusive, but will at the same time fuel interest in the technology.

This unique idea might raise a few questions, since Bitcoin isn’t a physical asset:

How can you gift Bitcoin as easily as handing over cash?
This is impossible. Because how can you convey something that does not exist in principle (physically)?

How can you ensure the gift doesn’t rely on a trusted third party (no seed phrases, no PIN codes...)?
This can't be avoided and this is the essence of bitcoin. That is, to write down the seed-phrase and create a wallet yourself, learn how to use it, as well as set fees and make transactions. This is the basis for using bitcoin, which you need to know (it is not as difficult as it sounds).

How can you share Bitcoin with someone who may not be familiar with this technology?
Create a wallet, send bitcoin there, and give the seed-phrase as a gift. This technology is a must have to get acquainted with! Be sure to show and explain how to use (save) BTC. This interaction during the holidays will surely strengthen your social bonds.

Don't look for easy ways and don't use the services of third parties. All your interaction should be reduced to one thing: only you and bitcoin (without unnecessary intermediaries between you).

Why not surprise your loved ones with the gift of Bitcoin 🎁?
The idea is not bad, but not all your loved ones will totally appreciate receiving bitcoins from you this season because they don't know the value, and now is not the time to gift people bitcoin who will never appreciate it because bitcoin is becoming more important by the day—what you should be seeking ways to get more, not what you should be reducing what you have. For your action of gifting Bitcoin to be appreciated and not undervalued, you have to make sure that your loved ones really understand the value of what you're giving them so that they not just cherish it but also commit to keeping it secure and safe.

The question now is, do your loved ones know what bitcoin is and the value it has? If they don't, that is the first role you need to play.

Nice ideal but if I may ask, gifting one bitcoin as fund or a hold of assets? If fund, I'd prefer fighting with the fiat and if for asset, I don't see it feasible to me because you don't trap one into unplanned and unready investment else, they're definitely squandering the assets without minding it potential to be hold around the bullish season to say talk more of holding for longer time.

I gave some hundreds thousand satoshis to two of my brothers a few years ago. I explained the big picture without telling the details but I asked them to hold for a few years. Now, they are shocked seeing the value of the Bitcoin  in their wallet which was increased so high than the first time I gave them.

That makes them realize that Bitcoin can be more valuable in the future. I see they now add more satoshis to their wallet after Bitcoin hit $80k and with other coins. That is their choice but they are asking me if they don't understand. So the best way is you help them install a Bitcoin wallet, best is electrum on their phone, send some satoshis to them and say that they must keep it for a long time and let it be.

If shipping was cheaper, I'd probably buy a cold wallet and gift it to my brother, but the constraints of the high cost mean I have to think twice.

Indeed, this idea will seem unique where the cold wallet that is given will be more useful to use every time for them to store assets there... my plan is not to share bitcoin but to share the same cold wallet used by myself, such as from the Satochip brand.

Personally, I don't want to bother giving Bitcoin as a Christmas gift, it's better if I use some of my Bitcoin proceeds to buy Christmas gifts that they like, which they think are more acceptable and also for Christmas and New Year's needs so they can celebrate happily.

And most importantly, they know that money comes from Bitcoin and they know that Bitcoin can create what we want by converting it. And for my wife, I will give Bitcoin as a gift because she already has a wallet and has also known and understood Bitcoin well since I started being involved in this world.

And for other people and my child is still small, I can't, and for other people or my own siblings I will consider and if they are interested in Bitcoin maybe I will give a little, but if they don't know anything about Bitcoin I won't give it and I will give another gift because they don't know what to do or how to use it or cash it out or whatever and I know and am sure they know about Bitcoin but they don't have any interest in which I think it's better to give another gift that they like which will be more useful.

I personally dislike hardware wallets because I believe that in order to use bitcoin, you should not "pay" anything (ie. purchase a wallet device) but I can see their appeal.

This is why I personally believe that the best way is to use paper wallets.
Quote
Cons:
-- You have to find a good keypair generator that allow a strong entropy
-- You see the private key at some point
-- Weak support
I don't know what you mean by "weak support" but the other two are not cons.

Secure wallets that are 100% open source and reviewed are not hard to come by. You can use bitcoin core! Or better yet you can use a deterministic wallet that uses mnemonic algorithms, like Electrum to generate a seed phrase and as many private keys as you like.

Seeing the private keys is not a con. Remember this is your money that you are giving away (not selling) for it to be categorized as con. In fact you should keep a backup of that mnemonic (the keys you gave away) for the future. In case they lost the paper wallet so that those coins are not lost forever.

Finally use a cool design for the paper wallet you want to print that has holiday themes and a short guide/info about Bitcoin on the back including how to spend coins. It could be steps to use Electrum which is a user friendly wallet.
And they have to learn how to use bitcoin anyway if they want to use bitcoin! otherwise what's the point of giving away bitcoin?

This unique idea might raise a few questions, since Bitcoin isn’t a physical asset:

How can you gift Bitcoin as easily as handing over cash?
This is impossible. Because how can you convey something that does not exist in principle (physically)?

Of course it's possible. Just load the private key on a physical device and you have some physical Bitcoin, like the Casascius or Lealana ones.  Grin

The concept is that they receive a physical gift (a tangible item) with a special surprise inside. While some people may opt to give cash as a gift, which is perfectly fine, I personally prefer giving Bitcoin to my loved ones.
And I’m sure for those of us here in the forum, our families are already on board with the idea of Bitcoin, right?

YEAH MAN! That's the idea. Orange pill them softly and let them realize to power of Bitcoin against inflation!  Cheesy

Oooof man, we don't have the same definition of "giving away money".
If you give away some sats, keeping a backup of the seedphrase is a bad practice. My 2 sats of course.

Totally,More also,it's a revenue to introduce Bitcoin to someone, like I said Bitcoin adoption is the only recommended adoption for anybody. The best decision anyone can make next year is to engage themselves with and in Bitcoin, it's an attempt, and it's definitely going to be worth it.Tell someone about Bitcoin today...Compliments of the season🎄
