This topic is carried out after the sudden change of food items and I want to put this together to see those who their country is less cheaper. Like I know compared to the economic crisis within our country, food Items has hike in price which even making the low/average people not to afford at least 2 square meal per/day. I went in purchase of Rice and Other food stuff and what I saw in the market isn't that pleasing neither seems amused me at all, in fact, we are totally finished due to inflation rate and almost everything changes price every single days. Do you wait till 23 DEC evening before buying all these things? Below are the prices currently, although price might differs due to location and states within my country.

Rice 69,000 (50kg), Gino Tomatoes 10,000, Onions one custard rubber 15,000, Chicken 30,000, Groundnut oil 4 littrs (25,000)/Red oil (Palm oil) 15,000, Crayfish one custard rubber 10,000, Full life Goat 120,000, One crate of malt 15,000, ect most images aren't included.

Note: image gotten google

You could list some of the price maybe to know the area that are way cheaper, especially those in Nigeria if they are more affordable at your locations, while those abroad can as well list to compare the rate of things between the both countries.

Does it mean within or during Xmas period thing are far more expensive than the usual days? let us discuss..

To make it easier for everyone to understand since this isn’t a local board, I suggest you include the dollar equivalent for the price, as USD is the standard currency worldwide.

Definitely, as demand increases, prices rise. However, if your country has a government agency that monitors prices, businesses won’t be able to take advantage of the holiday season. The price will remain fair although increase is inevitable.

We have inflation in Iran so prices do go up but occasional price hike here depends on the goods. Certain food items that they call "basic" (like rice, cooking oil, meat, etc.) have government monitoring them and they prevent the price from going up by giving the producers certain concessions (eg. cutting taxes). But other goods will go up and down during certain times.

For example we don't celebrate Christmas here since our New Year is on the first day of spring called Noruz but we are now close to Chelleh Night (last day of Autumn) that is celebrated in 4 days from now. So goods like certain fruits, nuts and sometimes confectionery go up. For instance today I saw that price of Persimmon has nearly doubled and is reaching $2/kilo!

It is also hard to post price of other goods you listed because some of them have a very wide range of prices depending on the brand/quality. Like rice. Here there are Rice coming from India and Pakistan that are usually a lot cheaper (lower quality) that start from around $0.5 / kilo if I'm not mistaken and it goes all the way up to top quality locally produced rice in north of Iran that costs $3.7 / kilo. What I buy is in the middle roughly about $1 per kilo.

Tomato price skyrocketed recently out of nowhere and they reached $1.4 per kilo (it is usually $0.35 /kilo).
Tomato paste went up a little $0.88 a can
Onions are $0.4 per kilo.
Chicken is about $1.3 per kilo.
Red meat is about $10 a kilo.
Cooking oil vary a lot. I have to look up stuff like sesame, olive, etc. oil. The usual stuff we buy (I think it is sunflower and Canola oil) is about $0.70 per container that is 810 grams.

I live in Indonesia, here are the price:

Rice 50kg = $46,55
Onions 1kg = $3
Chicken 1kg =$1,8
Cooking oils 4kg = $10
Full life goat = $217
One crate of malt = $9,93

Not surprising for me to see the price is similar with your country because we're live in third world countries. Inflation do hit in my country too, but the increment isn't that high, people can still afford to buy daily needs.

In the philppines the was also high although we have not expereince a hyper inflation yet, but I think the main reason for these prices were because it's  controlled by the syndicates.

For rice 50 kg its worth $55
pork meat 1 kl = $12
dressed chicken 1k = $4.8

these are the items I am only familiar off as I usually by these.

If we can add beer, well for 6 liters of beer (red horse) its $12.15.

This few food items you just listed has reminded me how the inflation has eating up the means of survival to some persons on my region, imagine how bad it is that only this item you mentioned cannot be bought with four months salary of most persons in the country, though it was more cheaper before now but is quite unfortunate that people are taking advantage of the high demand into increasing there prices, I believe this is not how some of the countries do during this Xmas period instead of helping they are trying to get more from buyers, however after this period the price will certainly drop to the price it was before, though it seems the rice is a bit low because from were I reside 50kg is 106k in price.

I still remember when I bought a bag of tomatoes rice for less than $40 when the value of the dollar to naira was higher then current dollars exchange value, the problem is that the government failed to face the real issue of inflation in the internal economy and lack of price control, their blame the high price of basic commodities on the dollar exchange rate but now the United States Dollar exchange rate to naira is stabilize and lower now but cost of basic commodities in the market keep raising, there is no consistency within the pricing system and what is sold for one part of the country could be leaser or higher in another state for example the Price of bag of Rice in my location is way above 100k which is somewhere around $55 equivalent compared to your current location and price.

Ukraine, Kiev
Rice, from  ~ $ 1.2 per kilogram
Onion, from ~ 0.30$ per kilogram
Chicken, from ~ 2$ per kilogram
Chicken fille, fromt ~ from 3 $ per kilogram
Veal, from ~ 4 $ per kilogram
Prices are per kilogram, to get the price per pound - you need to multiply the indicated price by 0.45.

These are the prices in chains, but there are agricultural markets and agricultural fairs, where they are even cheaper.

It has been noticed that during festive periods such as  Christmas, Easter, sallah, etc the food prices are at their peak leaving the consumers no other choice than to purchase at such amount which is not meant to be so.I don't really know why its always this way but the government has to really look into this issue.
Moreover, even at normal periods when there is no celebration at hand the price of food in the market is alarming. This could render the consumer not to  have purchasing power over the goods in the market.Over the past 12 months, the average food inflation rate rose to 38.67%, a substantial increase of 11.58 percentage points compared to 27.09% in November 2023.This is not a welcome approach and the government should get all hands on deck quickly on this matter cause if the whole nation should go hungry there would be no one to support the labour force and that would bring about a bad economy.

Food prices have definitely gone up since we had the pandemic, and I can personally say that I pay at least 30% and over 100% more for food and household items than 4-5 years ago. Given that retail chains have their own brands, such products can be cheaper, but they are usually of lower quality than more well-known brands.

So I can buy 1 kg of rice for 1 EUR (a little more than $1), but the slightly better one costs at least twice as much. A kilogram of chicken that is supposedly raised without the use of antibiotics and in a natural way is over 3 EUR, while the "ordinary" one can be a little cheaper. A kilogram of trout is around 6 EUR, while a kilogram of carp is around 5 EUR, and the fish is traditionally prepared on Christmas Eve. Potatoes have become cheaper this year, a 10 kg bag costs 5 EUR (last year 7 EUR), while I am not sure about onions because I have my own and do not buy them.

For those who are interested in more, for price comparison, I put a link to two popular retail chains and their online leaflets.

Due to high inflation, the prices of food items available in our country have increased very high. At present, the prices of all food items in our country are increasing. An interesting thing is that in our country, the price of food products fluctuates every week, that is, if the price of food products increases in one week, the price of food products decreases slightly in another week.

At present in our country 1 US dollar = about 120 rupees. The price of each food item is mentioned here.

1 kg rice price $0.5
1 kg tomatoes price $0.84.
1 kg onion price $0.75.
1 kg chicken price $2.4
1 liter cooking oil price $1.5
1 kg beef price $6.25
1 kg goat meat price $8.33

The price of the listed items are true except for the fact that rice is above #69k naira approximately $41.88 in dollar.  I don't know where you get your price but I can tell you that rice is above #69k let me show you current price of rice in Nigeria.

These are different prices of rice ranging from different products which all are above $50 to $60 from Jiji.ng. Sometimes it baffles me how price keep on increasing without decreasing but salary of workers remain constant. For those salary earners.

Does it mean within or during Xmas period thing are far more expensive than the usual days? let us discuss..
Well it has been Like that for some years Now, things are always expensive during festive period because demands are always  higher than supply just like bitcoin higher Demand increases bitcoin growth.

Definitely, as demand increases, prices rise. However, if your country has a government agency that monitors prices, businesses won’t be able to take advantage of the holiday season. The price will remain fair although increase is inevitable.
unfortunately those in charge of those agency responsible for checkmating and regulating of the prices of products and services are but a toothless barking dog. Toothless barking dog in the sense that they don't take necessary actions on these local business operators as it appears that money does exchange hands between some corrupt agents and the business owners who then have to without fear increase prices of goods and services beyond normal price. In recent times, reports to their quarters about these abnormal hikes has constantly fell on deaf ears.

Right. Prices of food in our country are increasing and every government of the country is not taking any step for the country because they want to rober the country by getting taxes from poor people. People people always pay more taxes than rich people because rich people always escape from tax system and government is dependent on rich people. Meat prices are very high in every country and every government should take action about that because in few years we saw huge pump in the the prices of meat. Rice prices are also very high and people will not forget to eat rice and that's why government increase taxes on that and farmers also hide tons of rice hide and government is not taking step amd prices are going high and high.

The economy has gotten really bad in my country and the cost of living isn't what it used to be. The price of food items have increased and people can't afford to even provide a three square meal for themselves and their family. What could be the solution this economic challenge? Because the situation doesn't seem to improve, the price of goods keep increasing on a daily basis and there's no hope of these goods decreasing in price. What's the hope for the poor and average people in the next ten years? Would the poor be able to survive and thrive in this situation.

The prices that OP posted especially for rice, are not that different from the prices here in our area, just slightly cheaper there. However the chicken and goat seem a bit pricey considering the local average income.

During holidays price increases are almost expected due to high demand but they’re typically regulated in well-known and major markets. From where I am, prices also fluctuate during festive periods but not as drastically because some measures are in place to regulate these spikes.

These are the prices of some basic food items in my country:
Rice 50kg = $50-75 (depending on quality)
Onions 1kg = $0.5
Chicken 1kg =$2
Cooking oils 4kg = $9
Tomato 1kg = $0.5

But this also depends on the purchasing power of income which varies from one country to another, meaning that in countries with high salaries these prices are not high, but in countries with low salaries these prices are definitely considered expensive.

Most people here also start buying their basic needs before Christmas and New Year because prices double during these times due to the holidays.

OP, the prices you mentioned are still not that high as compare to other countries. In first world countries it's not easy to acquire 50 kg rice at such low rates. I guess Iran is one of the nations where food rates are quite cheap as compared to other nations and as pooya87 said that 1 KG chicken cost $1.3 and that's pretty cheap. In my area the rate of chicken meat is around $1.80 per KG and still that's cheap because in United States it's over $5 per KG of chicken meat if I'm not wrong.
