For the experience of what you said right now I don't have any disagreement with you but I know quite well that the price of things is different based on the country that you are living or dwelling because each price of things is being determined by the economy of that country if a economy of your country is good the price tag of things will be also good but the process whereby the economy of your country is not good that is every possibility that uh people living in that country with suffer with the cost of price in some of these commodities

Everyone forgets about the quality of the products, and this will also result in different prices. In my country, the price of domestic chicken raised on normal, healthy food is several times higher than the price of those chickens raised on various additives, including well-known antibiotics and so on. The same can be said about many other products. I think that those people who care about their health and the health of their children will see the difference in prices and will stop at the preference not for cheapness but for health benefits. Therefore, it is quite difficult to talk about prices for countries, since sometimes I see that the products my husband buys in my country pull the price of products from one of the most successful countries.

I didn't forget about it, and I mentioned it in my post - if you want something healthy produced organically, then you will pay at least 50% or even 100% more for it. Eggs from free-range chickens, fruits and vegetables that have not been treated with any harmful chemicals, or even clothes that have strict production standards and do not contain harmful substances. However, it should be kept in mind that many such products are actually just labeled with a label sold by a company, but are not actually what we think we are paying for. Given that a very small percentage of products on the market are tested and that such tests are relatively expensive, it is an ideal situation for those who want to cheat by selling products that do not comply with the declaration.

To make it easier for everyone to understand since this isn’t a local board, I suggest you include the dollar equivalent for the price, as USD is the standard currency worldwide. Does it mean within or during Xmas period thing are far more expensive than the usual days? let us discuss.. Definitely, as demand increases, prices rise. However, if your country has a government agency that monitors prices, businesses won’t be able to take advantage of the holiday season. The price will remain fair although increase is inevitable. I agree with you totally, the OP would have used the price in USD as that would have given a generally knowledge for everybody to understand, he would have also shared with us the previous prices of those items and the current price so we can easily compare and contrast the price fluctuation over this period of time. However is also safe to say that, good's and service are always high during the yuletide season and this is something we've experience the over the years because of high demands and will remain like that till towards the end of January before things will begin to normalize, so to a lot of people, the price hike is normal for them this period.

It is hard to fit all of that inside one comment. I tried doing it about rice prices in my comment on the first page. Also keep in mind that more expensive doesn't always mean better quality. For example speaking of rice, the one we buy is an organic brand without all the genetic manipulation and chemical crap they use to grow some of the others. There is another brand (certain Tarem variants) that are genetically manipulated and taste like crap but is more expensive! I can think of a lot of other examples as well. Like oranges that we buy a lot these days. There are some variants that look fantastic, are so "orange" and shiny but they have no taste because of the chemical crap they use to grow them. They are 3x more expensive (~$1 vs ~$0.30 per kilo) than the organic oranges that taste a lot better and are healthy but lack the "looks"

Tomato price skyrocketed recently out of nowhere and they reached $1.4 per kilo (it is usually $0.35 /kilo). Tomato paste went up a little $0.88 a can Onions are $0.4 per kilo. Chicken is about $1.3 per kilo. Red meat is about $10 a kilo. Cooking oil vary a lot. I have to look up stuff like sesame, olive, etc. oil. The usual stuff we buy (I think it is sunflower and Canola oil) is about $0.70 per container that is 810 grams.
Tomato price above $2 a kg Tomato paste $2.88 a can Onions are $1.5 per kilo. Chicken is about $2.53 to 3 per kilo. Red meat is about $6 to 7 a kilo. Also depends what cut. Venezuela

OP, the prices you mentioned are still not that high as compare to other countries. In first world countries it's not easy to acquire 50 kg rice at such low rates.
It is very high, i think OP is from Nigeria, just like me, so before you compare the price with first world countries, you have to consider the disparity in minimum wage, the minimum wage per month in Nigeria is around $43, with food inflation at almost 40% right now. The situation over here is pretty bad anyway, most people cannot afford the 50kg bag of rice OP put in their post, especially that of the medium to highest quality, which right now is almost twice the price OP put in their post.

During festive seasons, the price of almost everything increases almost x2 but after the festive period everything returns to normalcy. Very bad

Period like this price of food stuff will definitely increase in the market because of the demand. This is the time whereby everyone would want to stuck there houses to celebrate the end of the year. It is not as if the prices of food gets increase because of the Christmas season, but I belive this is a period that the demand in the market always increase than any of the month of the year. I think this is a difficult time whereby things are very costly, it will just be the best for people to go for what they can afford and never to kill themselves on what is beyond their allowance.

I can't provide a table of food prices (in US dollars) at the moment, but I can say that prices are growing too fast due to high inflation. Salaries are not indexed to the level of inflation risks. Therefore, recently we have to economize on almost everything, slash and burn. You come to the store and walk around for a long time to choose the optimal set of products to fit into a specific amount. There is no longer a question of the quality of the products.
The cheapest rice (50 kg) costs around $44.
Changes in prices of basic products in the Russian Federation. Compare prices from January 9 to December 9, 2024. potatoes (500 g) — increased in price by 88.6% since the beginning of 2024, the average cost per 1 kg now reaches 55.38 rubles; carrots (200 g) — increased in price by 8.6%, 1 kg will cost an average of 47.56 rubles; chicken eggs (4 pcs.) — became cheaper by 15.8%, a dozen eggs now costs 112.83 rubles; fresh cucumbers (200 g) — fell in price by 4%, the average cost per 1 kg is 229.14 rubles; onions (100 g) — became more expensive by 42.3%, the price of 1 kg in stores is 50.72 rubles; green peas (100 g) — increased in price by 9%, a 400 g can costs about 115 rubles; cooked sausage (300 g) — increased in price by 6.1%, to 544.8 rubles per 1 kg; mayonnaise (200 g) — increased in price by 5%, to 290.7 rubles per 1 kg.

-cut- You could list some of the price maybe to know the area that are way cheaper, especially those in Nigeria if they are more affordable at your locations, while those abroad can as well list to compare the rate of things between the both countries.
Does it mean within or during Xmas period thing are far more expensive than the usual days? let us discuss..
Comparing just prices between countries is meaningless unless you take take into consideration local average wage and other costs of living. Because usually cheap prices are result of cutting from something important. In wealthy and healthy societies, the extra costs are both from taxes and corporate greed. And Christmas extra prices are definitely result of corporate greed. Why wouldn't they make customers pay more when they do? They are obligated to bring shareholders more profits.

The funny thing is, a place that sell cheaper product is mostly expensive to live instead of a place that sell the same product but more expensive. Just like in my country where the minimum wage is around $300, but the reality most jobs pays around $180, rent $90, the rest is for foods, transportation, health, etc which make people live from paycheck to paycheck. While in first world countries, even people said the tax and rent cost is really high, but as long as you live frugal, you can save like 20%-30%.

To make it easier for everyone to understand since this isn’t a local board, I suggest you include the dollar equivalent for the price, as USD is the standard currency worldwide.
And even better, if you specify the price in bitcoin, because the forum is not called dollartotalk, right? Also, if you evaluate the cost of products in bitcoin, you will see that the prices are falling, not rising (each time you will need less satoshi to buy groceries). It's really amazing how bitcoin is changing the world (and perception). This control is only possible on tv and media, but in fact, it is impossible to stop the pre-holiday rise in prices (inflation).

It's really amazing how bitcoin is changing the world (and perception). Sounds cool but we are discussing the difference in food prices between countries so using a common world currency would make it easier for everyone to visualize. Also, bitcoin is still very volatile, using bitcoin as a unit of measurement in this case would be inappropriate. In just 2 days bitcoin price has dropped more than 5-7% and I think OP will have to spend a lot of time to constantly adjust bitcoin price for each product and that is not a wise idea. As long as bitcoin is not the world's main currency, not the main unit of measurement, using it to price products will be very troublesome. By the way, we are talking about necessities and people need to buy them daily, and people will not want to wait for bitcoin to increase in price to buy them. And in the short term, bitcoin can be dumped at any time, bitcoin price does not always increase.

Merchants do not just increase or reduce prices, it is based on a lot of factors like inflation, food inflation, economic stability, etc. The prices of goods and services during this festive season reflects the prevailing situation in your country, for example if inflation and food inflation was high prior to the festive time, it will reflect on the prices of goods because of the demand during this time of the year, and you can expect it to skyrocket.

I always thought agriculture was very easy in Venezuela since last I checked there didn't look to be any water shortage (like in our neck of the woods) and the soil was good and fertile. So if you are actually from Venezuela and not reporting price from google, can you give us some insight into water, soil and farming in general? Because if what I said is right the prices have to lower, shouldn't they?

Regardless of the season, there's always a standard price that the food authority mandates wherein every merchant is obliged to follow. If this holiday season prices are at peak, aside from the higher demand from the consumers, the prices already have been checked and approved by the food authority, so its price increase is valid.

You can compare the prices like this. Although fertile lands are the best lands for farming in our country, unfortunately the prices are expensive due to inflation and the resources are not used properly enough. Food inflation is very hot, prices can change every month, I can't think of the increases that will come in the new year.
Rice 50 kg $90-110 Onion $0.35 Chicken 1kg $3.6 Cooking oils $6 Tomato 1kg $0.9

It's been on the rise for very long especially after COVID it became unstable too for many goods but later the prices were stabilized but not in the range of previous value which is like set new high. If I am not wrong cooking oil price atleast increased 20 to 30% and most of the groceries in the 20% range meanwhile the person didn't get 20% increase in their salary or income which restricted the spending nature or even sometimes the survival with bare minimum.

I live in Bangladesh and here is mine,
Rice 25 kilo ~ 1600-3000 BDT (14-25$) ~ It varies based on the rice quality, the one that me and my family consumes costs around 16-17$ Potato 1 kilo ~ 65 BDT (0.55 $) Onion 1 kilo ~ 60-70 BDT (0.60-0.70$) Chicken per kilo ~ 160-200 BDT (1.5$) Cooking oil ~ 5 liter ~ 800-900 BDT (7-8$) Cow meat ~ 1 kilo ~ 700 BDT (6$)
Bangladeshi currency is called BDT. These prices may seem very cheap compared to others. But believe me it isn't! The average income of a person isn't that much here. Many can't even afford to eat cow meat these days! The general folks are badly suffering due to price hike, inflation and high cost of living! The prices of daily necessities are going out of hand day by day. Although the "Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection" are trying to break the market syndicate and control the situation but they are unable to do so properly!
