you cannot take out the place of research from gambling except you are considering just luck-based games like some casino games whose outcome are not determined by the extent of research you have done. what research does is that it helps you to at least have a knowledge on what you hope to get at the end of your prediction.

for sports betters, the research might not be that intense and involve you going too much to enquiring so many details about each game but might simply involve researching on the recent outcome of the result the teams you are selecting have and look out for loopholes that might affect either side and, in the processes, influence the outcome of the game. it might look insignificant in some context, but reality is that a gambler that does a bit of result will always have better result that another that believes on 100% luck.

I think that the reason is often in how the player decides to increase the risks for himself, because you can approach the betting more responsibly, maybe making only single bets, or you can use multibet to create huge multipliers and hope to win a big win. Betting blindly can really feel like a waste of money but at the same time you could actually get lucky so that you begin to think blindly betting is even a good way of betting,  and even with all the research and knowledge you could still loose only that you have a better advantage that the odds will work in your favour soon, and by probability,  of every four or five times, you may get to win one or two because you have an edge button you are blindly betting the chances becomes even thin and smaller than with a knowledgeable person.

The reason why people choose to gamble blindly without having any understanding of what they are doing is as a result of lack of understanding, they go into gambling thinking that with luck it is very possible for them to make money so quick from gambling.

I bet on teams based on the odds, but as time went by I realized that this was the worst way to go. It's true that I still continued to lose even after doing research. I guess that the idea of research isn't to guarantee wins, but to better your odds of winning. But what's the problem with this is that research is almost always already calculated to odds.
So even if that makes you win more, odds might not be worth it in the long run.

And like all odds, they mainly exist to represent the risk that sport book keepers are willing to take and they rarely take unnecessary risks. Occasional wins of the underdogs are happening as well, but i am willing to bet that you can't guess those by research (if you don't have an access to fixed games data or something).

I think that no matter how thorough the analysis is it is still impossible to take into account all the factors and risks to make a winning bet, it is almost impossible because of the presence of randomness of this or that event, or in other words - luck. By doing research, we will have more information about the match and if we don't see a chance to win for the team, we will not place a bet for that team or we can pick the other team to bet. We can decide what we need to do based on our research so we don't make a wrong decision.
