You need ASICs to mine a decent fraction of bitcoin. Not just one but multiple running with good ventilation, cooling and power supply. Forget about GPU, those days are long long gone. Rather use that device for playing games.

Unfortunately you can't mine Bitcoin using a GPU anymore, a RTX 4090 on a laptop is a mobile version and it is let weaker than a discrete GPU, still none can mine Bitcoin today, it is better you invest on an Asic miner.

I also won't advise you to use that laptop to mine any cryptocurrency because an RTX 4090 laptop is costly and using it to mine coins will degrade the laptop very fast, even while using discrete graphic cards I still have to reapply thermal paste once in a year, you can do the same with the laptop too but imagine how much energy it takes to separate a laptop apart.

You can easily break something if you open the laptop yourself, I advise against this.

Well if you suggest that you wish to run a node with that PC then it would seem more of an enthusiastic act than attempting to mine with a GPU given the current difficulty level of the bitcoin Blockchain. Well as at around 2009 - 2010 when the difficulty was still very low you could manage pull it off but mining with these specs currently would be more a waste of computational power.

I think where you are actually getting it wrong is you are trying to compare your GPU capacity with those smaller ASIC mining wares in the market but they are very different. Your GPU is designed to carry out multiple tasks quickly but an ASIC ware on the other hand is designed to carry out a single task (hashing) very fast and efficiently and that's what mining actually needs.

To mine Bitcoin with an RTX 4090, you would typically use a mining software like NiceHash or MinerGate.

NiceHash these days isn't good choice, due to some controversial change such as more strict KYC requirement and stealing taking fee when you're inactive. Meanwhile MinerGate have bad reputation, with usually people report lower income/hashrate (compared when using different mining software), withdraw problem or even scam accusation.

Mining one Bitcoin with a GPU would take an impractically long time, as the network difficulty increases over time. It's more common to mine altcoins (like Ethereum) and then convert them to Bitcoin.

ETH switched from PoW to PoS since 2 years ago.

But I will give you my real experience mining using laptop the simple answer is NO and never. Here is my story

Back then I just like you I want mining everything using my laptop and then I decided to mining dogecoin by renting my graphic card to a site that similar like miningrigrental and then I started mining for 4 days streak and don't turn off my laptop at all and the result is my laptop is broken the display is error and cant even be turned on again.

Lucky me I just tell the store that my laptop broken for no reason they believed it and took my laptop for repairing and using laptop guarantee card and its safe. So yeah mining with laptop is same like you hurt your laptop and that is very painful way, because laptop is design for daily use in efficient way not like PC

Mining Bitcoin with an RTX 4090 is really not worth it, especially since the power of mobile graphic cards is not that great. But if you really want to do that I think you can still do mining, but you need to know that it is not profitable at all, and it is all a loss in terms of hardware maintenance and electricity costs. Even so, I think it is better for OP to buy ASIC to do mining, and if you really want to focus on Bitcoin mining, then there is nothing wrong with exchanging your laptop for a device that is capable of doing it.

Mining bitcoin with you laptop is a waste of time and money. Mining bitcoin need ASIC miners which you can buy from legit sellers.

Mining bitcoin with an RTX 4090 is not a good idea. The bitcoin network is dominated by ASIC miners which are far more powerful and efficient than any GPU. With just one RTX 4090, it would take years to mine a single Bitcoin and the electricity cost would be much higher than any potential profit. GPU mining for bitcoin is no longer viable and most miners have switched to other methods.

That's a higher end laptop, I am sure it cost you a lot to buy this laptop, how long are you willing to use this laptop? I asked because mining on this laptop can degrade your laptop, maybe even died when using the laptop.

Also you can't use this laptop to mine Bitcoin, LTC and BCH, because they are using sha256 algo, they don't support GPU mining, but you can use this laptop to mine Ethereum Classic, I just can't gurantee the profit if it will be good enough.

The only coins that are profitable to mine now are mostly sha256, Aleo and Doge coin.

1. LTC actually use scrypt rather than SHA-256.
