I used to feel that way—feeling happy but then reflecting afterward, thinking I shouldn't have indulged in it and that I should be focusing on doing something useful for society. Only now do I realize I may have been brainwashed by certain ideas, becoming a product of conditioning. Phrases like 'Happiness is shameful; suffering is noble.' or 'Endure the bitterness of life, and you'll rise above others.' What drove the people who said these words to speak them?

usually those without, but dont want to do things to better their life, will get jealous of those that do try to better their life.. so the jealous types would then blame and make those that succeed to feel bad

the only time that you should feel shame is if your actions directly take something away from someone else or harm someone else
this does not mean you should live without comfort and pass on your wealth to others out of some guilt trip. it just means if you steal or damage someones life prospects through your actions, try to mend your actions

..
that said, bitcoin has made me happy enough to retire young and i do see others working hard or not so happy. so i always keep a few folded envelops in my pocket marked 'random act of kindness' with varying amounts of cash inside that i randomly hand out to those i feel need a treat

they say 'money does not buy happiness', but the best feelings i felt recently is when you fill a struggling neighbours car with a weeks worth of fuel or mega tip a waitress

I DO NOT TRADE OR ACT AS ESCROW ON THIS FORUM EVER.
Please do your own research & respect what is written here as both researched opinion & information gleaned from experience. many people replying with insults but no on-topic content substance, automatically are 'facepalmed' and yawned at

It’s okay to feel joy. Happiness isn’t selfish; it’s necessary for a balanced, fulfilling life.

there is always a other side of the party , while others are enjoying someone is sacrificing (like those who are behind the party's success)

so dont worry because its better that you are the one who experience Happiness while not the sacrificial .

Well I do some times feel like I have a feeling like you are saying. If I am in a happy mood and I do see something sad for me then I do feel bad and my mood does change.
A few days ago I was waiting at my bus stop like I do alot. I was in a good mood since I was going to visit my nephews. And then a homeless man with a very bad arm injury came to me to ask for money.
I did not have some money to give him so I told him I am sorry. He walked away and I did feel so bad about it. My mood did change after this.

wanting to be successful and disciplined is what drove people to say that i would assume

honestly it depends on what you wre indulging yourself in but most of the time if it is not that harmful then nothing really is wrong in indulging yourself from time to time life should be lived in fun and enjoyment and not only suffering

I’ve felt that too. That weird guilt for being happy when life’s actually going decent for once. It’s like your brain’s been wired to expect struggle all the time, and anything outside that feels “undeserved.” Probably a mix of cultural BS and internalized hustle culture telling us joy = laziness or distraction. But honestly? That’s a scam. Misery isn’t a virtue, and you don’t owe the world your suffering to be “worthy.” Laugh, rest, vibe, guilt-free. Life’s too damn short.
