See? There's another one of your problems. Freedom of religion is possibly the strongest of the freedoms, and is in the 1st Amendment.

The guy and the woman were simply of a different religion than most of us. And he was carrying out religious punishment on the woman... punishment that she was aware of in her religion, and deserved for doing wrong.

All you would be doing is breaking the 1st Amendment by disallowing them their freedom of religion. You should be punished under the law for trying to steal someone's freedom. You even admit that you were trying to do this.

On the other hand, it could be we all are so desensitized by those acts of evil and slaughter we do not even care anymore to stop someone from doing evil right in from of us, like that man did and killed that innocent woman.
One of the most disturbing things as well about this case is the timing, right in Christmas season... when people is supposed to be less worried about evil and being murdered for not reason, when when these news appear in the frontpage to astonish us...

I am not even know what kind of security measures we would be talking about, to be honest. At this point I am not even sure you want to have a sincere debate on the implications of this happening in the context it happened.
To me incidents like these ones would be a reflection on how important mental healthcare and access to it it is vital in a society like that which thrives in the United States where individualism is the norm and people won't take care of one another.
In this case it was an undocumented immigrant from central America, but it could have happened the same with both the victim and the suspect being American citizens.
All the disturbing things happening in your country should be taken as a wake up call for your government to start to locate more funds in public mental healthcare institutions and counseling programs, so people do not feel like either killing themselves or killing others, it is that simple.

I am imagining what it is that the guy was thinking before he lightened up the lady and set her ablaze. Even if he was going through a lot of worries in his head, he does not have the right to set another person ablaze for a sin they did not commit. Let's even assume the lady has wronged him previously, it is not a guarantee for him to take laws into his hands by commiting a murder. Beyond that, I see the guy as someone who's battling with emotional issues and decided to punish others for his worries. Regardless, the court must take this case seriously and make him a scapegoat now that the NYPD have taken the case up by arresting him because I have the believe that he would have committed more atrocious deeds if he wasn't curtailed and arrested by the police.

I don't know the details surrounding this case. And I certainly don't condone something like this. But in a similar case that was based on religion, freedom of religion is one of the highest acknowledged freedoms in all of America.

- If this were a religious execution ordered by the whole community of this religion - Islam has some religious execution ideals like this - it doesn't matter how the guy felt about it. If he was the appointed executioner by his religious laws, for him to NOT do it, he would be condemning himself, and he might be next in line for not doing his duty. And he might be executed even if he changed religions to get away from religious persecution.

- In a religion case like this, the guy might have set himself up for punishment. Why? Because the people who made freedom of religion one of the basic freedoms in the country, never thought they would ever see a religion like Islam in the land. In other words, Americans who want freedom of religion, would condemn an act like this in court, thereby showing their hypocrisy.

- The joker could be proclaimed a hero for what he did. It might cost him his freedom, but if he acted according to his religion, he did what was right, religiously speaking.

The guy in this literal case might truly have been acting on his own. If so, he should definitely be punished. But remember, he used his shirt to fan the flames to get it over faster, so that she didn't have to suffer as long. This points to the idea that it was a religious execution. Feel sorry for the people of this kind of religion, but then honor them for upholding their religious laws faithfully.

The above are all excuses and the real reason is that people have become selfish these days and they rarely care for others. We are living in a materialized world where the humanity element is decreasing every day.

There have been some situations where people who try to help are arrested by the police and incarcerated until after investigations. That's why most people don't want to get invoked in such situations. They don't want to become victims of a crime they didn't commit. Some of them had to pay for bail or even hire lawyers to get themselves out of these problems.

There was a particular issue when two good Samaritans helped some accident victims. Instead of receiving praise for their selflessness, the police accused them of stealing from the accident victims. They had to pay for the items they never saw. Anyway, these challenges shouldn't stop us from assisting when we have the privilege.

Yes this is what separates the wheat from the chaff. When a person is in distress and needs help it is your duty as a human being to assist in whatever way you can.

i refuse to believe that people have become so selfish that they will watch a woman erupt in flames literally it feels like a witch hunt almost and they all watch as the witch gets flamed i hope whoever did this can be taken to jail and serve time and people in it might be penalized too or traumatized for watching that unfold

To be fair, it has been reported that the woman did not show any sign of movement or struggle while being put ablaze by the suspect, so there is indeed a reasonable possibility those who witnessed the crime to believe all of it was some kind of sick stunt being played out for whatever reason they did not fully understand at first.
When one first thing about murder, one does not believe someone is going to set other people on fire in the subways system of a city like New York, so misbelief could have played and important factor on the lack of action of those bystanders. Still it is sickening how nobody stepped into help, not even mentioning the suspect managed to scape the scene of the crime easily.

It is just surreal and sad.
