I had previously had some winnings in local lottery, I don't remember how big was the tax because winning was not big, but if you receive big win I believe there is no legal way to avoid the tax.

Just curious since there are countries where gambling winnings are taxable... Those who have experience paying taxes on gambling winnings, how much do you typically pay? Also, is there a way to avoid these taxes without getting into trouble? If you don’t mind, please share your insights and mention the country you’re in if possible.
In my jurisdiction, the gambling platforms that have their offices around and seem to have registered with the gambling and lotteries authority deducted the taxes from the winnings. This particular gambling sites deal with fiat currency.
30% is taxable from the winning.

For this other type of gambling platforms that mostly deal with crypto, We don't get taxed as of now since the regulatory body probably doesn't even know that they exist or serve people from my jurisdiction.

Also, is there a way to avoid these taxes without getting into trouble?

Depends on what you're up to!
Avid some taxes by financial optimization, which means depending on what casino you play and the laws in your state withdraw just the right amount compared to your deposits so you can claim you had no profit from that activity or simply avoid paying a dime despite cashing out.
There is no way to avoid the law completely without risking getting into trouble, it's a bit like speeding, you might get away year after year breaking the law or you can get caught 10km from your home on your first try.

Also, the thing is pretty complicated depending on a ton of factors, for example here:
- are unemployed, then your winning won't be counted as taxable over x
- you are employed and you already are in the superior tax bracket every single penny will be taxed
- physical shops tax your winning on cash-out automatically, so there is no way to avoid this, lotteries do the same

Well to some countries it's highly recommended that gamblers wins are taxable but most especially when one get a huge wins that's when they are open to such payable taxes but having to shy away from this wouldn't be that easy cause you'll be traced to some extent. Tho some casino take heed of this and some gamblers ain't charged for taxes reduction when they eventually win.

I’ve yet to see a country where casinos are required to withhold a specific tax before paying out winners. It ultimately depends on how strict the consequences are for not paying taxes. That’s what usually dictates how winners react, whether they’ll comply and report their winnings or risk ignoring it altogether.

I have not also seen but from what I read last year, in USA where gambling winning is taxable, I think there how they did there's where the gambler will have to report his winning and the tax will be withhold before he gets the rest of the money after tax had been withheld. You can read this article to see what am talking about.

I think for those who are taxable, it is something like a business or personal income. So, undoubtedly you can hide the income from gambling (though only a few percent of people). And If anyone wants to pay the real then it is the best as income tax used to serve the country of his/her own.

Maybe that is apply in a country that gambling is legal and everything is in the government control. The government wants to tax from many businesses and from the people's income to develop their country. But in other country that prohibit gambling or a country that have a grey situation about gambling, people will not pay taxes and they tend to hide their gambling activity. With crypto as the option to gamble, they will have a freedom to playing gambling without telling to anyone and they also not paying tax.

In my country casino must pay taxes for me. But i can`t say if they pay it - i`ve never seen it and never asked the casino about it. The official version that i get money on my balance after taxes. Anyway i`ve never paid it and don`t know anybody who paid himself. And the tax services never asked me any questions about it.

I never thought that any player would have to pay tax on their winnings, including in countries that legalize gambling for their people. I think that even in countries that legalize gambling, this shouldn't happen, because paying taxes is the responsibility of the company alone, with players or visitors not having to pay taxes, but with a government that wants to tax more, maybe that makes sense even though it sounds ridiculous.

With a country that prohibits gambling, there must be a large part of the community who gamble but in secret, especially now that there are so many online casinos operating, of course this opens up greater opportunities for those who want to gamble even though it is prohibited in their country.

Much as I would like to file my winnings online, there are no guidelines our government is implementing; they just automatically deduct your winnings on casinos and gambling platforms they operate. Our government happens to operate both the lottery and the casinos and some online casinos; on other casinos where a private company is operating, they offer no guidelines when it comes to taxation, they just tax the operators.

If you gamble on licensed gambling platforms, in my country it is about the same. But many gamblers play on online gambling platforms that are not in any way in contact with the tax authorities of a particular country. Therefore, the tax authorities simply do not have any mechanisms to deduct income tax. To pay tax or not is left to the conscience of each individual gambler. And somehow it seems to me that most do not pay any taxes because they remain in the gray zone.

Until now I have not paid taxes for gambling because I am not registered as a tax payer, maybe if I show up my income on social media, I will get an income tax letter at home, because my country is very sensitive to income tax issues for people who do not work for related companies.

Just curious since there are countries where gambling winnings are taxable... Those who have experience paying taxes on gambling winnings, how much do you typically pay? Also, is there a way to avoid these taxes without getting into trouble? If you don’t mind, please share your insights and mention the country you’re in if possible.

In the country where I live, there is no such tax as a tax on winnings in the tax legislation.
However, in practice, it is usually understood as a tax that is levied on the economic benefit that a person receives in kind or in cash when receiving property from third parties as a result of winning a contest, lottery, gambling, competitions, etc. Therefore, we can say that there is a tax, albeit not explicit.
I looked: so what are the tax rates?
For tax residents, it turned out to be 13% of the value of winnings in a lottery, totalizator or bookmaker. That is, in any gambling and betting, and this is really a lot.

Bottom line: I think that almost all countries have a tax on winnings - explicit or implicit.

In my country it is the same, gambling in my country is indeed prohibited because it is against religion but even so many people do offline and online gambling but more people do online gambling because offline gambling can cause a commotion because basically gambling is prohibited in my country.

Many people do it including those around me including my friends who are just as many as they like to do online gambling, and some of my friends who have won have never done this including me, maybe this only applies to countries that legalize gambling, I don't know for sure.

In my country gambling is taxable by 20% of the winning amount.  It is automatically deducted when a person win in national lottery or sweepstakes.  While gambling won in casinos need to be filed and reported and if the net profit on gambling is positive then the person need to pay 20% as tax of the winning amount.  I do not know if these gamblers really reports their statistics since my country is somehow have not strict implementation of such regulation.

You can gamble using cryptocurrency if your country has not yet established taxation on it.

Not registered as tax payer? You are required to pay your taxes even without undergoing registration process because that’s your obligation as a citizen. I’m not what country you are but you should pay your taxes.

Even gambling profit is taxable if play on a casino which is fully regulated by your government. If your country is too much sensitive on income tax then you should start paying taxes if you are winning since tax evasion is a serious crime.

My country taxes a gambling if won on physical casino. I think they are starting to apply taxes too in online casino that is registered in my country.

Yes I do pay taxes on winnings, but I claim it as my freelance income instead of gambling income because the company I work is against gambling, so if I stated my gambling income, there might be a chance they can discover if I'm a gambler.

With a country that prohibits gambling, there must be a large part of the community who gamble but in secret, especially now that there are so many online casinos operating, of course this opens up greater opportunities for those who want to gamble even though it is prohibited in their country.
There's no way to avoid paying taxes especially you gamble on online casinos, the casinos already know your identity, the banks or payment processor know how much the money you received.

No, if you live in a country where gambling is regulated and casinos need a country-specific license to operate, everything you win and lose will be remitted to the authorities. The only way to avoid this is to break the law (which I am not recommending), and play in casinos that are not licensed in that country, where they will not pass the information on to you. But then we would not be fulfilling the second part of what you are asking, of not getting into trouble. You might not get caught but you are potentially getting into trouble.

Tax service should be taken after getting a big win but gambling tax for small amount will be dangerous to a gambler. Because if you win only 20$ and you have to pay high taxes, it can get you in trouble. Because you won't get a chance to enjoy your winnings because most of your winnings will be taken for taxes. In my opinion this tax should be adapted to the situation of the gambler and should be levied only on big wins. Tax is mandatory in my country for big money and you cannot avoid it.

Anyone here had already paid taxes on winnings? Here gambling is illegal so i can called is tax free hahhaha.

But jokes aside I think how much you pay it all depens on the local government rule. If I were you Im gonna hire people that good at it some consultant might have best result for and pay low taxes but still in a legal way.

Crypto in general now is taxable even in my country too but the tax system is still little bit blurry because basically crypto itself is a new kid in town and like I was said before it is best to hire consultant for a better result
