I know it sounds crazy but I did give away over 20 bitcoin to total strangers with my bitcoin faucet websites back in 2014 to 2017. I never got "rich"
from crypto but I feel good knowing I had a part of growing the community in the early days. Maybe some of the people I helped had good fortune.

It still blows my mind to this day to think of it all.

I lost over 10 BTC bought in 2013trading (mostly shitcoins) thinking I can make it more even knowing BTC will be very expensive in the future I got greedy and lost it all.
Now Idk what to do with my live anymore.
I know BTC will reach 1 million one day and I'll not be here...but money is not the most impirtant aspect for me. I know BTC will be the global tender and people who will not own it will be slaves for AI machines....Yeah I am very pessimistic about the future for people which not hold BTC.

Most of us old timers have stories of the things we've done back in the day.  I've given 10 BTC to this very forum.  I've spend hundreds of Bitcoin on things like honey, statues, coins, shares of companies that disappeared, etc...  This is inevitable when you use Bitcoin.  The downside of a currency that appreciates against fiat.

I remember your faucets from old days. You even helped me to launch my own faucet hosted on your domain. It's good to remember these old days.
Maybe back in the day these 20 Bitcoins didn't looked something huge, but when we look at current value, it's over $2 million, what is crazy.
People always were saying that faucets is waste of time, partially it's true. But when you look how many people were introduced to Bitcoin through faucets, it played huge role.

It is definitely crazy to think about it now, especially when you consider bitcoins price right now, but it should be comforting to know that you played your own part and contributed to bitcoins growth and development. Because giving out bitcoins to people helps to introduce them to bitcoin and they might remain bitcoiners afterwards.

I really can't feel the way you feel but I understand what it means to have given away that much a long time ago though back then it didn't seem like much but currently it's unimaginably huge.

The fact is thinking about it much would only make things worse so it's best you just chill about it but it's ok to reflect it once a while however anytime you do just take it as you were a supporter of bitcoin and you successfully spread the word via those faucets.

Come to think of it contributions like yours back then are what made the network gain adoption quickly. Imagine how lazlo would feel now remembering he spent over 50,000 bitcoins on pizza back in the day...

Faucets were a big thing back in the day. You can’t really say they were a waste of time because you could actually accumulate a decent amount of Bitcoin. So, OP, hats off to you for giving away Bitcoin as you’ve helped someone and the community, and that’s commendable. As for me, I’ll admit, I was too greedy back then. I ended up losing more than 20 Bitcoins to gambling. Some of the ones I managed to cash out, I didn’t hold onto for the long term, even though I always preached about holding. Sometimes, I couldn’t even follow my own advice and ended up betraying myself.

No doubt you are one of members those are still in memories of past days beneficiaries as one is already mentioned your help in old gold era I am new, and I can't be feel things like these now in these days while we have Bitcoin @$100K.
As @LTU_btc having words about you surely many wills also came in front and give you honor about this great work in past which you have done for this community and also spread bitcoin through your faucet now in these days all are dead, and we have to do hard work for having these Satoshi.

With the greatest respect, I was not sure what to make of this thread unless there was some way to corroborate your faucet existed. Reading through the thread at least one member remembers it. It must have been a huge step for you knowing there was going to be a long term positive impact of your faucet even though many would have tried to cheat the system as is done with all faucets.

Sometimes those that contributed in historic ways ended up missing out of life changing riches. Look at the Laszlo and the pizza purchase, it is synonymous with Bitcoin yet the vast majority would not even bother donating a few USD$ in BTC if a fund was ever set up for him. There were many people that contributed to the use of not only Bitcoin but crypto in general but for one reason or another did not make a lot of money yet many (if not most) of those that did make money and are in a position to make a small contribution to them would actively avoid it.

It is unfortunate to read you stating you never got "rich", I hope somehow (either via crypto or otherwise) you do make a lot of money as well as recognition for the 20 BTC you gave away.

Nah..., you just reminded me of the faucet days and how I ended up gambling all my earnings back then. It was like doing small tasks for tiny rewardsby making use of my free time, it didn’t seem like much. Honestly, I never even thought of holding onto it as I was more interested in spending it, treating it like free money you could earn in your free time. The tasks were so simple you could try multiple faucets if you had the time, but the only real limit was… well, your time.

But OP, man, you’re a legend. Giving away 20 bitcoins in total? That’s wild. I don’t think many of us could have done that and still be active now. I feel like most of the old-timers have already retired with their fortunes.

By the way, just in case you forgot, 20 BTC is worth over $2 million today. Shocked

Since you're posting this on the Reputation board: I assume you earned more than (the value at that time of) 20 Bitcoin from ads on the site, right?

Maybe back in the day these 20 Bitcoins didn't looked something huge, but when we look at current value, it's over $2 million, what is crazy.
If you're in Bitcoin long enough, everyone gets their own version of the pizza story. But as I once read on the WO-thread: "that's the problem we want to have". As long as you don't sell (or use) everything Smiley

That's true. My first forum post was about an impossible captcha on a Bitcoin faucet.

Faucets were a big thing back in the day. You can’t really say they were a waste of time because you could actually accumulate a decent amount of Bitcoin.
Even though faucets paid just cents (when converted to dollars), at least back then the Bitcoin amount was large enough to experience making small transactions. It's really sad that part of Bitcoin is gone: I can't let my kids experience sending and receiving Bitcoin many times.
When I started with Bitcoin, I could even wait for some of my funds to reach "medium priority", and make a transaction up to 1 kB without paying any transaction fee. In retrospect, I'm very glad I consolidated all my dust when it was free.

I can imagine how crazy it would be giving away 20 bitcoins back in the days and now looking at the current market price of bitcoin, it does really sounds crazy. Not long i joined the community and within this short period i have seen what bitcoin is capable of doing, how it has grown in a short while and I am sure if early adopters knew this is how it will grow in a short period they wouldn’t have spent their bitcoin the way they did.

Every transaction done in the past actually contributed to the growth of bitcoin, your faucets might have been the reason for some to believe in bitcoin so you did something good for the community so you shouldn’t have regrets.

Some scamming moron paid 10 BTC (allegedly) to another scamming moron for my fake dox back in the GAW scam days. That's gotta be one of the dumbest ways to waste a million bucks.

I've gambled away maybe 1 or 2 bitcoins in 2014-2015. In ~2015 spent 8 BTC on mining hardware that mined back maybe 3 BTC. In 2022 spent $30k on mining hardware, mined back ~0.5 BTC ($10-15k at the time), quit mining after that. I've spent a total of ~25 BTC on electric bills since 2014, i.e. literally had to sell 25 BTC to pay for it, not including the maxed-out credit cards and house mortgage.

You know, the usual degenerate gambler/miner stuff. Ironically shitcoin mining made me most of my bitcoins.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that in hindsight I would have been better off just giving it away via faucet. Hindsight is a bitch.

I am an unlucky person who was not included in the part of the people who entered the faucet that you shared in that time frame because I was not born in the forum.
When are you willing to do the same thing again?

I and everyone who does it on their own will will definitely feel happy because they can contribute with benefits that can be obtained by many people.
Great people do great work with great goals.

Is your faucet site the one in your signature?

I myself don't have any experience with faucets because I've known bitcoin since the high price, so faucets at that time no longer exist.

Even though you didn't get rich, you still contributed a lot back then by giving 20 BTC through the faucet you created.

I'm sure... the past will be a good memory for you.

I did give away over 20 bitcoin to total strangers with my bitcoin faucet websites back in 2014 to 2017.
Many years ago I bought cheeseburger for 8 bitcoins. A cheeseburger was dry and tasteless. I was deceived

I never got "rich" from crypto but I feel good knowing I had a part of growing the community in the early days. Maybe some of the people I helped had good fortune.
I used to calm myself down like that too. Until I realized what a loser I am.

It still blows my mind to this day to think of it all.

Most of us here have a similar story I believe. I had a good stash too and then I panic dumped it in 2020 during the plandemic2020. I thought this time it is real, the world is about to end… and it didn’t. I got scammed. Of course I shouldn’t blame others but it was a very well orchestrated scam which scammed thousands of people out of their positions… I wasn’t the only one.

Then I read some Peter Lynch books and noticed 2020 won’t be the last scam they manufactured. There will be others too.

Just don’t get fooled next time… Next time it will seem even more real than the last. Just don’t forget that.

Or

Next time, there won’t be a next time

Some scamming moron paid 10 BTC (allegedly) to another scamming moron for my fake dox back in the GAW scam days. That's gotta be one of the dumbest ways to waste a million bucks.
For 10 BTC, I'll dox myself. It's more than enough to move Tongue

In 2013 I bought cheeseburger for 8 bitcoins. A cheeseburger was dry and tasteless. I was deceived
In 2013 that 8 BTC was worth $100 to $9500.
