Well jokes aside we have some really cool dishes here and I'm pretty impressed by the entries so far plus I like the diversity in food category and texture too.

Nigerian JOLLOF is really on the heat.

That being said I have merited entries till this post.

Some entries are not valid as some were over merited for reasons that seem to be cycling.

Good initiative as I have said before in PM, can't remember if I have commented on the thread or not since I was occupied for most of the festive period so wasn't that active but you don't moderate merits. You don't tell people how to merit a post as it's done based on their own interpretation of the post being worth more merit or not. People can merit based on how they see the submission as you don't expect someone that puts in an effort to be rewarded the same way with someone that just barely participated.

Instead of trying to moderate how people merit, the best decision is to take away numbers of merits as a criteria for determining the winner or qualified submission (if that was even a criteria). The criteria should be based on other things excluding merits. There's, how the dish was prepared, presentation, detail explanation, visual display etc.

The most liked participant in a competition isn't always the winners as there are other things used in the judgement so allow people like which dish they want to like but have criteria for judgement.

@Mia Chloe, without any bias i can tell you that CryptopreneurBrainboss is right, even in general forum contests you don't expect a user to go all round meriting each person that applied for a contest. However, every one is privileged to how, who and any Post they deem fit to merit without any restrictions or guidelines on how they should spend it. There is no cause for an alarm. Perhaps, this is a contest thread so i see no reason for the incessant discussions going on here.
By the way, If you ain't participating in the contest there is no reason for any discussion or whatsoever. Peace

I was not going to say anything, yet I still would like to chime in based on any concerns that someone organizing might have in regards to the deployment of smerits within contests like this one, and surely it seems reasonable to set forth guidelines, including guidelines in regards to smerits, and perhaps even to change the rules about smerits if it had not been initially disclosed (or thought about) in the initial outlining of the OP.  

Surely it does tend to be better to establish most if not all of the contest rules from the beginning and to outline them in the OP, and so if the rule is established later down the road, then some members might feel that they are being unfairly high-lighted when the rule had not been clearly described in the initial OP, so I am not completely attached to either side of the discussion since surely smerit senders have a lot of discretion (perhaps exclusive discretion, until they get banned..? hahahahaha), in regards to whether or how many smerits to send, even though there have been a decent number of forum contests that also try to provide some guidelines to attempt to neutralize some of the bias that could play out from either the sending of smerits or if there might be an appearance that the contest is being used in ways to merit farm.

For sure, we know that a lot of beginner forum members will be able to receive merits by submitting photos and submissions to forum contests, and surely that is one of the risks that come from throwing any forum contest that involve the submission of photos and even trying to make sure that photos are not fake - which surely, even in this contest, even though I have tended to send some smerits to each of the entrants, I sometimes have been bothered by the lack of some kind of a piece of paper with each of the photos with user name and date, which would at least help to emphasize the need for contest participants to submit contemporary photos (even if the photo(s) might have been taken a few days prior to posting them in the thread).

That was literally the fault of the OP. Perhaps if he needed to set new rules, he could have included it in the OP than making it as a reply when what we are expecting to see is mostly submission of those that want to partake in the contest. Perhaps, Igebotz has already suggested to the contest host to change the thread to a discussion thread and open new thread for the entry of participants which OP wanted discussion and entry to continue simultaneously.

That was exactly what happened because when OP started the thread, they didn't include the rules of including usernames and dates in the pictures before uploading which made some people who read the rules when OP created it to not include their usernames and dates. I know that new rules can be established along the line in a thread but it is also good that OP includes them in their OP thread so that it will be visible to everyone.

As for those who takes advantage of the contest thread to merit farms, nothing is hidden under the sun as they might bear the brunt in the future.

Yeah, some newbies can also want to use the thread for merit farming since it involves the upload of pictures which they can't be stopped since OP did not place a restriction on newbies but however, the idea of including a paper of their hand written username and dates make it decent not to upload fake photos.

I think the contest already have it's rules of which before participating in a contest, the rules should be read. There is no excuse of ignorance for those that will not adhere to the rules in the OP.

I was interested in joining the contest even made my dish until I realized that dates needed to be added to the username.

If you already took pictures and consumed the meal before realising that you should have included a picture with your username and date on it, you can make another meal if you truly are the one who made the first one. The contest still has some days left until its closing for entries.

I never condemned meriting entries. Being rational about it has been my point from the onset. I see no reason why some persons feel it's right to cheat.

Their entries will remain valid depending on when they summited prior to the rule update.

I really acknowledge to all moderators of naija local board to have fight to make this naija local board stand and particularly the oga that initiated this thread from the upsets, deeply I'm very grateful from the day one i came across of this thread, it keeps reshing me my bachelor life, from the day one i started cooking for myself and family as a whole and at first i was not getting the normal cooking procedure but with time and consistency in cooking make me to grow well in cooking, i can cook perfectly well. Personally, I would be cautious in proclaiming that posts submitted in connection with this contest or any other forum contest are necessarily receiving smerits based on their being "quality" posts, and so in some sense there continues to be controversy in regards to the extent to which participation posts deserve any smerits at all, even if some of us may engage in some smerit sending practices that are relatively loose when it comes to the participation in some contests, and even though I have tended to be relatively loose in my own smerit sending practices, I go through some of my own personal dilemmas in regards to whether I might want to consider changing some of my criteria for sending smerits...

....including even in this seeming Nigeria-based contest.. and if we consider comparing this particular contest to the annual pizza contest or the pumpkin carving contest, those contests seems to be more open to global participation - even though they might have some local sentiment or rooted in some local traditions, so I am not suggesting that this particular contest needs to change for the mere sake of globalism.. which may or may not work very well when it comes to some of Nigerian culture, tradition or even any of the food-related matters that might be related to Nigeria.. which I can understand some of the desires to promote some local traditions and/or practices, but there can be some additional reluctance for forum members to want to participate in the sending of smerits when there might be some questions in regards to how open the contest is outside of the local.. and even questions of concerns about local versus global.. and surely I am not even proclaiming that there is a need for global to triumph over local, even though there can be some dilemmas that are created in regards to how much forum members might want to spend their smerits in the promotion of various local projects, whether the submissions are "quality" or not. .or even sometimes, forum members might want to specifically ONLY involve themselves in some subject matters if there might be some kind of a bitcoin angle to it...

yet with smerits, the forum does allow a decent amount of discretion for forum members to spend their smerits however they like, even though sometimes there could be concerns and even accusations in regards to how some forum members are spending their smerits - even more concerns when merit source members are involved...  .which may also relate to Mia Chloe's earlier stated concern that disproportionate sending of smerits might end up creating impressions of impropriety, even if some forum members might not have had improper intentions when they chose which posts to sent smerits and what quantity of smerits to send to one post versus another post .. ..   I am not claiming to know the answers ... even though my own personal practice has largely been attempting to send relatively low quantity of smerits, and surely sometimes, I sent smerits to posts that may well not deserve any smerits, even though in these various contests we can see that some members went through decent efforts to make food and to show that they made the food, and surely I feel even better to send smerits when it appears more likely that they actually are not faking the photos.. so that is part of my own ongoing assertion that I think that it is important that pieces of paper with names and dates are included with all of the submitted photos, even though surely a lot of forum members have  been lacksidaisical in that regard..so I do become a bit more uncomfortable if I end up sending smerits and then later find out that the photos were not even real.. so that does not feel good for someone like me, and I might not want to be spending a lot of time trying to figure out whether the photos happen to be real or not, so for me, those pieces of paper seem to help to have some additional confidence about forum members not faking the pictures or even taking pictures from an earlier contest or from another forum member.

Omo we get food for this country and I surprise to see say many people sabi cook including guys that normally go dey hustle for money make women dey cook. According to the ist edition 2024/2025 contest is going end today that is 15th of January, so looking at the 2nd edition of the contest discussion, I'm still glad to take part in this continue edition and i believe that this new edition my many things that will be added are yet to come, because hopefully there must be a difference from the first edition.

You forced me to the kitchen I guess you weren't thrilled enough, the only issue I had was going to the market, I had to use Chowdeck riders to get me the things I needed as I was all alone at home after my woman traveled. It was stressful and fun at the same time. Nothing beats Coconut flavored in jollof rice.

Some of my pictures didn't upload well so I couldn't add more- seems Talkimg is having system glitch.

Today is the deadline I guess- to those I haven't merited yet, I will in due time when my source are back, you lots deserve it for the hard work you put through.

Sorry the isn't hosted by the forum but an Individual. So would pick any of his or her desired time to end the contest. Besides there had been so much entries already so it doesn't even feel like people are missing out to prompt the extension. Also consider the duration which the event lasted was enough for every willing participants.

I wasn't around during the festive period. When I came back I made my delicacy on 10th Jan but had issue with my phone the second day so I wasn't able to have access to the pictures. And I'm not with much on me but since the contest is ending today, that's why I try all possible best to fix it today to meet up with the contest. Moreover, my network was also bad were I am but my mind at rest believing it's ending by 12pm. Believing no matter the network is, I will get it done before then. Although my entry may not be perfect but it will be painful for all stress gone in vain. I will be glad if OP can consider me.

Sure you are right actually about the big men involving there self in cooking process, it was really fun shall but to those that is still a bachelor you will understand that this contest give us the room to show up our cooking talents of being a bachelor, cooking is one the things i do everyday of life, so i really appreciate all the moderator that make this thread to come to stay.
