It's no news that our country Nigeria is one country that has been always linked with scam and criminals related activities online but things has gotten to a new level with the emergence of crypto currency especially Bitcoin which has become popular in the world especially in Nigeria

And with many people trying to benefits from the crypto space as it has a lot of profit potential when it comes to investments especially Bitcoin which has continued to soar higher every day that passes

But one big challenge we are faced with in the crypto space is scam because people fall into the trap of these scammers almost on a daily basis it's worst in our beloved country Nigeria has scammers has really find a way into the crypto space

This got me thinking what could be the course of this why are people falling into more scams and why is scam on the rise in Nigeria because with the way things are now immediately your identified as a Nigerian in social media platforms online as a Nigerian you are suspected to be a scammer

Don't get me wrong, and please don't take my comment as any means of racism, but i'm not surprised at all.
Sadly, 9 out of 10 people that have tried scamming me in Crypto were in fact, of Nigerian origin.

Poverty is a cause.  The other is that Bitcoin can be used wrong and no Government can do any thing besides investigating and arresting the bad people.  The third is probably that being in Nigeria is like a waiver of laws.  What happens to a Nigerian if they scam a United States resident?  Or an European?  If the sums involved are billions, maybe a proper investigation is launched.  But even then, I do not know how much can be done about it.

Each country across the world is suspected to be scam country in social media not only in Nigeria, theirs varieties of countries that when you mention that you're from their people will think you're a scammer,  Nigeria is a good country that has different natural resources including crude oil, so if you are labeling the citizens of Nigeria as a scammers that's someone personal thinking, because I know that no country is exempted in any that has to do with scam, so since I have been in Nigeria I have never record scam and nobody has attempted to scam me, so since I have not be scammed in my country and no my relatives that is been scammed I can't believe that Nigerias are scammer.

Your country isnt different with ours. Crypto is becoming a mainstream and a lot of new users who doesnt have experience or knowledge falls into the traps of thosw who take advantage of it. Its an unfortunate event but what we can only do is warn them about the potential of being scam as people might use the hype for personal interest and lay a fraud investment at your palm.

Scams, yeah, it does exists in Nigeria, I wouldn’t pretend it doesn’t. It’s low budget and done on small scales due to the people involved, level of exposure and the technology that is available to them. Hence, the numbers might be there but, the volume is often less compared to some nations with high skilled tech and a lot more exposure. I’ll just say, crimes are more organized out there better than it is down here. That doesn’t make us particularly angels though but, we are indeed finding a healing pathway thank you.

I feel the problem of the Nigerian people in regard to the subject is better understandable by the Nigerian people. Good thing we have a local board here for this thread to be directed there.

The fact that you used the Nigerian pighin here should tell you where the thread should be. Mind you, the unofficial rule doesn’t allow the use of other languages outside its locale although, this isn’t an obvious case.

What am saying however is, Let the people who feel it, who are impacted by the conditions that results to these decisions to scam, possibly to have met or interviewed discretely, some of the individuals involved in this tell you what it is out there. The victims might be foreigners but, they don’t get the root course like the Nigerian people. The local board should be able to say more on this, if you’re indeed interested in this subject.

It can be many reasons for scam rising trend in Nigeria and I think it isn't different than other countries.

When Bitcoin and cryptocurrency adoption is better, more people know about it, invest money in it, and traditional main stream media, social media are more regularly talking about it. Scams possibly increase but at the same time there is considerable increase in attention and activities of media about this market.

Together, it makes like so dramatic more scams than before, but it is like manification effects from media.

It's not surprising that a country like Nigeria is opting into scamming other people because of how hard the life is. Don't take this as a criticism, but I'm just stating the facts, and you know that since you're living in Nigeria as well, right?

Crypto scamming happens and the scammers' targets?
- People who are obsessed with money.
- People who are obsessed with getting rich in a quick way.
- People who are easily attracted with huge returns.
- People who doesn't have any knowledge on how cryptocurrency investing works.

What's the course? There are many videos online that gives many information about cryptocurrencies, and how to prevent getting scammed as well. Change the way you think about cryptocurrency because it isn't a get rich quick scheme. With how rampant scams are in your country, even other people worldwide are generalizing all of you already. I guess just don't resort to scamming people and continue to learn so that you will not fall into these scammers.

OP I don't know what you  aim to achieve with this post, you obviously sound misinformed and biased, Nigerian got a local board where this topic could be discussed and addressed properly,  I don't see how this information is supposed to help beginners who visit this board to be enlightened about the forum, I will advise you move this to the appropriate local board.

Its not only in Nigeria; our country also has a share of crypto scamming. When there is poverty and a lack of government support to ease up or alleviate the condition of its people, the people resort to crime and scamming.
These crypto-related scams will continue not only in Nigeria but even in many countries. If a person fails to secure and flaunt his portfolio or crypto assets, many bad people will be tempted to steal from them.
Criminals learn from other criminals regardless of nationality, so those articles about kidnapping and paying ransom and scamming people you will see these in many countries.

This is not particularly true. I've personally engaged with a couple of clients and potential clients who were aware of my nationality and experienced no prejudice from them. With how popular Nigerians are on social media, you can be sure there are lots of others who are not limited by prejudice, if they create a track of being upright and trustworthy.

If you read the posts of users from the Nigerian section, you can understand that it is very difficult for a young person to get a job even after receiving an education. even though Nigeria stands tall when we talk about an African country that is actively involved in this digital space and so, when the topic of scams is being disused, we tend to receive the attention as a country that leads the movement, the reality is far from what has been projected on the media space.

the scammers that are either Nigerian or non-Nigerians still targets Nigerians who also get scammed in the process. scam is a global trend that is a function of personality and not just about the region one comes from. Nigeria is a very religious country, and it is hard to find a core religious person being fully involved in scam. this is never to say that there are no scammers that are of Nigerian descent or that they don't occupy a certain percentage of the population of scammers on the digital space, they are certainly in their umbers same way other countries also have scammers that are of those regions. poverty might be the root cause, but greed is the propelling force that amplifies and highten the extent of scams both in crypto and the overall digital space.

Poverty eh, we might be a developing country but aside that i do not see us being retched and poverty strike like you think, with the efforts from an average Nigeria meeting his needs, in some countries that will be enough to guarantee a better standard of living. Our mentality are straight, we work rightly for what we want only there are few who also want more than they should have and chooses to skip the process, I think there are worst scammers in countries than they are in Nigeria, let's forget about google rankings and be true to ourselves.

I agree with this. Same with ours I guess, theres plenty of scammers hiding under the false pretense of crypto umbrella. They use the crypto to lure them on a perfect trap. Nobody wants to get scammed. But there will always be people who lost their will to the devip just to earn money from normal people who began to wonder in crypto. Poor crypto education could be another cause. Ignorant people can be easily deceived. I have heard people discussing how they were taught how to mine Bitcoin with an Android phone. When I looked at the application, it was a clear scam.

I like how you placed your words and sorry for the ordeal you had with those Nigerians that tried to scam you and we should know that scamming is a thing of global concern and not just about a particular country being the case study. Likewise, i have faced scamming attempts by some foreigners but i won't mention the names of the countries. Just as you said that it could be poverty issue, so it is then i would also want to add greed because there are folks who are rich but they lack contentment which makes them try to scam others to acquire more wealth to themselves through dubious means.
